Abstract

This article focuses on juridical analysis of the ministry of charity (diakonia) in the light of Codex Iuris Canonici 1983 and some of magisterial teaching such as Deus caritas est and Intima Ecclesiae natura (on the church’s deepest nature). Relying heavily on these Church’s documents, this article seeks to offer canonical insights concerning four points of particular interest: first, the ministry of charity (diakonia) is a constitutive element of the Church’s mission and an indispensable expression of her very being; second, by baptism, all the faithful have the right and responsibilities to devote themselves personally to the service of charity; third, the exercise of the ministry of charity requires organization. The community of the faithful and every faithful has the right, ad normam iuris, to form charitable organisations or create foundations to fund concrete charitable initiatives; fourth, the ministry of charity is directly connected to the Episcopal ministry. Indeed, the bishop is the one primary responsible for that ministry. He has a role in supervising and coordinating works of charity. This article argues that in the area of ministry of charity, diocesan bishop play a pivotal role. He must show a concrete and visible commitment, ensuring that the ministry of charity is to be the chief concern of the particular Church, promoting communion and dialogue among the various agencies as well as keeping the

Abstract

Teaching authority in Roman Catholic is entrusted to apostolic college of bishops with Pope as its head. This authoriy has been developed from the ouset of christianism. It is believed that the the apostolic college has handed over to bishops as their successor. The teaching authority performed by bishop is restricted to faith and moral matter. Their teachings in these matters obtain an infallible character. As far as the faith and moral matter are concerned, the infallibel character is accepted. Issues regarding politics, economics and so on are not in domain of the teaching authority of Magisterium. Catholics are strongly recommended to give their obbedience to the teachings of Magisterium. Are there possibilities to dissent from these teachings? This article demonstrates historical development of teaching authority in roman catholic and its implementation.

Abstract

We have been recently celebrating the Christmas. The Christmas among chirstians is aways regarded as the memorial celebration of the birth of Jesus, the Messiah, as the fulfillment of the prophesy of prophets in the past. The most interesting symbols found during this moment are the cave and the shepherds. Jesus, the Messiah, has chosen the cave, the most simple place as the “locus” of His birth. This choice is really an ironic panorama. The Most High, the King of the kings has made the cave and the stable to be the “locus of revelation”, the place where the High Being reveals Himself to the world. From the beginning, the Savior introduces Himself as the Most Poor among poors. Using this image, God is going to show clearly His choice and fundamental option to human being. There’s no highway to be Savior, except to follow the stoney way on the country-side. The simple narative story of Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem remind all chirstians about the value of poverty and simplicity of our human being. We are called back to our humanity, to our own Beth-lehem, our natural roots, to be aware of our own strenghts and weaknesses as the starting-point of our journey proceeding to the fullness of our dignity and our salvation. The Christmas is not only an annual liturgical celebration but also a symbolic action, inviting us back home, making us aware of our existence as human being. Christ has chosen the poverty as the “hodos”, the best way leading all human being to the fullness of salvation.

Abstract

Pastoral service is a shepherding activity performed in Catholic Church for obtaining eschatological salvation. The eschatological salvation begins in this world and will be completed in when we face to face meet God. To gain such a salvation, an effective and efficient pastoral service is needed. An effective pastoral service is characterized by ability of facilitating the people of God to have a real, concrete and measured salvation in the world and will be completed. An efficient pastoral service, however, is a rationality of input resource of the salvation reached in pastoral activities. The rationality of such a service is measured by valuating gained profit as a standard of effective service. To reach this end, pastoral service of the Church as an institution, at least, should improve some principles such as productivity, service quality, responsivity, responsibility, accountability, effectivity, efficiency, reallybility, trustworthy and justice. In addition, pastoral service needs a shift of paradigm to be more “listening” than “telling”, “serving” rather than “controlling” in order to avoid the “comfort zone”. This also requires management principles, among others: catalytic pastoral, ecclesiastical pastoral, competitive pastoral, mission-zeal pastoral, results-oriented pastoral, faith-oriented (Church), producing-oriented pastoral rather than spending, anticipatory pastoral; bottom up pastoral, a “market” system for pastoral competitive.

Abstract

This paper aims to show controversy surrounding development. Therefore, there are two basic ideas that will be used by the author in this paper. First, the author rejects the theoretical framework and dominant paradigm in the study of development, power and poverty which places neoliberal capitalism as the main weapon used by the power to carry out development in order to reduce poverty. Second, the author will demonstrate an alternative development model which essentially places suffering as the main proposition of development. Here development is seen as a way of liberating people from suffering. Thus, the concept of liberating people from suffering is an inspiration used by the author to show Christian vision of development

Abstract

One of Muslim figure, Munawir Sjadzali in many of his writings talked about Islam and state administration. This paper explains Sjadzali’s views on Islam and political/state administration historically and their relevance to the NKRI which is based on Pancasila, not based on a particular religion, not a secular state nor but a religious state. Academically, Sjadzali based on the condition of the internal Muslim factions: there was a traditionalistic-integralistic group, there was also a secularistic?partialist group. An exploration history of Sjadzali’s shows that tensions and differences of opinion about Islam and politics among Muslim communities have taken place since the time of the death of the Prophet Muhammad and continues to nowdays. Sjadzali in this paper ignores two extremes and follows one golden mit which is called a symbiotic view, towards Neo-modernism Islam. According to Sjadzali, Islam has a set of principles and ethical values for community and state life as can be found in the Quran, but still has flexibility in its implementation with due regard to the situation of the times and culture. The political system/state administration Islamic when compared to Pancasila, actually there are similarities in principles and enthusiasm.

Abstract

Post-secularism was born in the form of the emergence of religions in the public sphere. It is the antithesis of the secularization view characterized by the marginalization of religion into the private sphere. The rise of religion in the public sphere features a double face. On the one hand it appears in the face of violence as it appears in various forms of religious fundamentalism and terrorism. On the other hand religion offers moral potentiality that can solve various ethical public issues such as euthanasia, abortion and the crisis of meaning facing modern society. For pastoral work the post-secular church offers a number of challenges and opportunities at once. Churches that appear in public spaces must deal with plural public sphere conditions. This requires the Church to translate its pre-political messages into interfaith language. In addition, the Church is also required to live up to tolerance as a virtue of democracy.
