Abstract

The increasingly flexible working environment triggered by the pandemic pushed audit firms into rethinking how auditing should revolve around new technologies. Addressing operational sustainability and resilience became increasingly crucial in this age of disruption. As more and more businesses use big data and data analytics tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, applying data analytics in auditing can focus attention and resources to better manage risks. According to the global survey conducted by the International Federation of Accountants in 2018, Small and Medium Practices (SMP) in Malaysia generated 42% of revenues from auditing and assurance services. However, more than one-third of the SMPs in Malaysia stated zero technology development, which implied that the SMPs have either not utilized technology-enabled data analytics or have limited application of data analytics in their auditing practices. This study intends to explore the current practices in applying data analytics in auditing, its opportunities and challenges, especially in the Malaysian context. Questionnaire surveys will be distributed to gauge the current understanding of data analytics among audit firms registered with the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and to solicit responses on the perceived opportunities and challenges in adopting data analytics in auditing. The findings of this study could provide a glimpse of how auditors could effectively create value with the applications of technologies and navigate businesses in this new normal era. By embracing change, auditors could transform disruptions into opportunities for firms to recalibrate for a better future.

Abstract

River water quality has decreased due to agriculture wastewater discharge. Statistic data in 2021 showed 22.6 thousand of water pollution cases were reported in Malaysia, which is a critical issue to the aquatic plants and animals. Thus, this paper aims to measure removal efficiency of a natural and economically designed bio-filter. The bio-filter was made of coal, coconut fibre, citronella, and clay to treat agricultural wastewater and compared the water quality before and after filtering. Selected parameters (TSS, BOD, COD, and NH3-N) were assessed in the wastewater samples before and after the operation of a bio-filter on a laboratory scale. The result shows that bio-filter success to improve the agriculture wastewater quality. Consequently, we recommend that this bio-filter can be further tested on a larger scale and potentially used in the agriculture wastewater industries.

Abstract

The contemporary digital era has brought about some significant changes to both the framework of traditional financial activities and the state of the world economy. Blockchain technology has transformed financial activities including investing, trade, and online payments in the present global and economic setting. Digitizing the use of money is one of the major advances in today's tech-savvy world. Regulators, bankers, innovators, investors, and consumers all around the world are interested in this new peer-to-peer payment method due to its disruptive potential. Cryptocurrency is a digital asset designed to operate as a medium of trade that relies on encryption to ensure the transactional flow and regulate the generation of new currency units. While cryptocurrencies have been successful, the lack of internal exploratory research and attention to Malaysian users has led to limited adoption of cryptocurrencies in Malaysia. Thus, it is vital to invent a new paradigm by investigating the acceptance factors since many individuals still don't know about this emerging technology. Additionally, people's propensity to adopt is influenced by how much faith they have in the technology. Thus, the study proposes to examine the adoption of cryptocurrency among Generation Y. A survey was carried out, and the framework was tested using SmartPLS to generate the results. The results found a significant impact of brand trust, behavioral attitude, and perceived usefulness towards the adoption of cryptocurrency. Additionally, the mediation role of behavioral attitude is significant between brand trust and perceived usefulness in the adoption of cryptocurrency. The limitations and recommendation of the study are further discussed.

Abstract

This research paper suggests a conceptual model for the academic staff adoption of iPad at university. With the enhancement of technology, knowledge can be developed more efficiently and effectively for the Teaching and Learning (T&L) process. iPad has become an important technology tool in the advancement of education, particularly in classroom instruction. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the dimensions of the drivers of iPad used by university academicians based on the technology acceptance model (TAM). The methodology used for this study, was to extract the critical factors from TAM. The five critical factors that supported the TAM theory are perceived ease of use (PEOU), perceived usefulness (PU), behavioral intention (BI), attitude (ATT) and frequency of actual use of iPad (AU). All these critical factors determined and validated by supported preceding articles and represent as the proposed dimensions for the conceptual model. Next, the hypotheses developed for each association among the critical factors. The findings drawn from the developed hypotheses generally lead to the development of a conceptual model. The limitation of this study is just to provide the conceptual notion; thus, this model could extend to the empirical analysis in the future.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has crippled and caused varying degrees of damage to most industries since early 2020. Many Chinese companies, particularly SMEs, are on the verge of bankruptcy due to their vulnerability when facing business losses. Employee stress has been increasing due to increased work and retrenchment stress. The stress on the employee has then reduced their motivation and engagement and thus affected their performance. Reviews of the pertinent literature show that there is a need to study the moderating effect of employee engagement on the relationship between customer value proposition and company performance, which is the purpose of this study. This study employs a structured questionnaire to collect data through an online survey method from targeted Chinese SMEs. From the collected data, 109 usable data have been analyzed using covariance-based SEM via SPSS and AMOS software. The findings of this study show that the customer value proposition has a significant positive effect on company performance and that employee engagement moderates the relationship between the customer value proposition and company performance in a positive manner, though marginally. The moderate effect of employee engagement on the relationship between the customer value proposition and company performance is contributing in the relevant literature. The results of this study suggest to industrial practitioners that they should focus not only on customers but also on the wellbeing of internal employees in order to grow their business.
