Abstract

Several varieties of rice are cultivated in West Sumatra including red rice (Oryza sativaL.) but drought is an obstacle to its cultivation. The purpose of this study was to observe the interaction of red rice with Polyethylene glycol, to determine which genotypes of red rice are ‘drought’ tolerant in the vegetative phase and to see the effect of Polyethylene glycol on the growth of red rice. This research was conducted in the Agronomy Laboratory and Greenhouse, Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University from October to November 2016. A Complete Random Factorial Design (10 x 2) with 3 replications was used. The first factor was the genotype of the local red rice (10 tested) and the second factor was either with or without Polyethylene glycol. Data were analyzed statistically with the F-test at the 5% level. Significant differences were further tested using Duncan's New Multiple Range Test at the 5% level. The variables observed were: plant height, the number of roots and the length of the longest root penetrating a vaseline/paraffin layer (wax layer method), plant fresh and dry weight and proline content. An interaction between red rice and Polyethylene glycol (20%) was observed. Only genotype 7 “Batu Kangkung” was tolerant to ‘drought’ in the vegetative phase and treatment with Polyethylene glycol affected plant height, length and number of roots penetrating the wax layer as well as the fresh weight of the plant.

Abstract

An experiment aimed at determining the best time of application of 2,2-dimethylhydrazideto promnote the growth and flowering inchrysanthemum(Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat) and shortened the flower stalk to meet a standard as potted ornamental plant has been conducted from Agustus to December 2015. The experiment was carried out in a Greenhouse of Center for Technology Transfer and Regional Development for Agriculture, Alahan Panjang, West Sumatra. A Completely Randomised Design with 5 treatments and 4 replicates was assigned. Data were analysed with analysis of variance and mean comparisons of DNMRT at 5% level. Data indicated that the best time to apply was 2,2-dimethylhydrazide at 3 and 5 weeks after transplanting. The application of 2,2-dimethylhydrazide affected plant height, number of leaves, leaf length, leaf width, number of flowers, and flower diameter of chrysanthemum.

Abstract

The Research aims to identify the effects of weed on the growth parameters of soybean cultivars. This field research is arranged using split plot withthree blocks as the repetition where the main plot is the weed treatments and those are weed-free, weeding in a critical period, and weedy. Sub-plot is the soybean cultivars which are Anjarmoro, Argomulyo, Burangrang, Gema, Gepak kuning, Kaba, and Wilis. Theresearch’s result shows the weed treatments would affect no significant difference in the plant height, diameter of steam, and light interception, which affects are the characteristics of each soybean cultivars.

Abstract

Nepenthes is a unique plant in Indonesia whose existence is endangered and almost extinct, so that conservation efforts are required both in situ and ex situ. Vegetative propagation by separating tiller is one method that can be done, using a porous planting medium resam form of roots, husk, cocopeat and moss. The purpose of this study is to obtain the best media for breeding puppies Nepenthes (Nepenthes Sumatrana (Miq) Beck). The experiment is based on a randomized block design (RAK) to use the media's treatment plant that consists of 5 level and 3 experimental groups, the level of treatment trials include: M1 = root resam, M2 = husk, M3 = cocopeat, M4 = moss, M5 = combination of charcoal husk, cocopeat, resam roots and moss with a volume ratio of 1: 1: 1: 1. The observations are the following variables: plant height increment, increment the number of leaves, the length of leaves, leaf width increase, in the number of pitcher, pitcher the length and the length of roots. The results showed the best medium that can increase the number of leaves and number of pockets of most plant Nepenthes Sumatrana (Miq) Beck is the root media resam by increments of 4.55 strands and 2.77 pitcher. While the best medium that can enhance the long pitcher of Nepenthes sumatrana (Miq) Beck is a media combination with increasing 2.02 cm.

Abstract

The objective of this experiment I was to determine accurate combinations of water volume and amount seed of the electrical conductivity test for seed vigor test in sorghum. Completely Randomized Design of 15 seed lots with 3 replications were used to determine electrical conductivity method with different vigor. The variable were observed: standard germination, field emergence, speed of germination, first count, conductivity, potassium leachate and eight combination conductivity method of water volume (50, 100, 150 and 200 ml) and amount of seed sorghum (50 and 75 seed count). The result of this experiments showed that electrical conductivity test method with 150 ml water volume and 75 seed count was accurate and suitable for sorghum seed vigor test

Abstract

Avocado is a cross-pollinated plant that has many variations of morphology. The study aimed to classify avocado accession based on morphological characters and to evaluate avocado accession based on predefined idiotype. The research has been conducted in January and February 2015 in three sub-districts in Solok District, representing lowland, middle and highland. The characters observed were morphological characters, both qualitative and quantitative in accordance with Descriptors for Avocado (IPGRI 1995). The calculation of genetic distance between accessions was done by Gower method. The selection of idiotypes has been done by collecting information on consumer preferences on the characteristics of avocado from fruit shops, fruit traders in traditional markets, farmers, and consumers. The results showed that 21 avocado accession of Solok regency can be grouped into two main groups, namely Idal 3 avocados and 20 other accessions. The coefficient of dissimilarity between the two groups is about 45% or with a similarity of 55%. Accessions that have many superior characters are the accession of Idal-1, Zainal and Asni-2.

Abstract

The aim of this research were to find the best doses of rice straw and tithonia compost base on growth and yield of wheat plant. Experimen had been conducted in Alahan Panjang, Solok Regency from April untuk July 2016. It used Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 2 factor and 3 blocks. The firs factors were of rice straw compost with doses (0 ton/Ha, 5 ton/Ha, 10 ton/Ha and 20 ton/Ha) and second factor was were doses of tithonia compost (0 ton/Ha, 5 ton/Ha, 10 ton/Ha and 20 ton/Ha). Data were analyzed statistically by F test and when F calculated was greater than F table 5% continued with Tukey Test on the real level 5%. The result showed there was an interaction between rice straw and titonia compost to the leaf area indeks, net assimilation rate, crop growth rate, number of productive tillers, grain number, grain weight and grain yield. Rice straw compost with 10 ton/Ha dose gave best result on number of spikelet. Rice straw compost with dose 10 ton/Ha and titonia compost with dose 5 ton/Ha gave the best result on leaf area indeks, net assimilation rate, crop growth rate, number of productive tiller, grain number, grain weight and grain yield.
