Abstract

Dental health workers are susceptible to cross-infection, one of which is through instruments, for example, mouth mirrors. So it is necessary to control cross-infection, for example using disinfection. 70% alcohol is an intermediate-level disinfectant. In this study, soaking the mouthpiece in 70% alcohol was done by immersing the mouthpiece into a container filled with 70% alcohol, while for 70% alcohol swab it was done by wetting a sterile cotton swab with 70% alcohol solution and then wiping it on the mouthpiece for 1 minute. This study was conducted to determine the difference in the effectiveness of the disinfection of mouthpiece instruments with 70% alcohol immersion and 70% alcohol rubbing on the decrease in the number of bacteria on the mouthpiece. The type of research is quasi-experimental, the research design is Two Group Pre-Post Test Design and the sampling is purposive sampling with a sample of 20 mouth mirrors that have been used. The results showed the effectiveness of the disinfection of mouth mirror instruments with 70% alcohol immersion to decrease the number of bacteria by 62%, the effectiveness of the disinfection of mouth mirror instruments by rubbing alcohol 70% on decreasing the number of bacteria by 90%. From the test, the Mann Whitney difference in the effectiveness of the disinfection of mouth mirror instruments with 70% alcohol immersion and 70% rubbing on the number of bacteria on the mouthpiece stated that P-value = 0.597, meaning p > (0.05) (Ho is accepted and Ha is rejected). In conclusion, there is no significant difference between disinfection of mouthpiece instruments with 70% alcohol immersion and 70% alcohol rubbing on the decrease in the number of bacteria on the mouthpiece. It is recommended that during the disinfection process, factors that can affect and asepticism be paid more attention to to help reduce the risk of cross-infection. Abstract

Data from the Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Health 2013 shows that the percentage of people with dental and mouth problems in South Kalimantan is 36.1%. Plaque is one of the causes of caries that occurs in the world population in the amount of 75-90%. Gig plaque is a soft layer that is firmly attached to the surface of a tooth which if not cleaned will cause periodental disease and caries due to poor oral hygiene. This study aims to determine the effect of rinsing celery solution on plaque score reduction in fith grade students at SDN Landasan Ulin Barat 1. This type of research is a type of library research, the research design is an experimental study and is laboratory in nature. The results to this study showed that the ethanol extract of celery stems with concentrations of 12.5%, 15%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% had smaller inhibitory zones than the positive control group. The inhibition zone diameter of the K + group is 6 mm, then K 12.5% is 1 mm, K 15% is 1 mm, K 25% is 1 mm, K 50% is 1.3 mm, K 75% is 1.6 mm and 100% K by 1.6 mm and the negative control group has no inhibition zone. The conclusion of this study is that the ethanol extract of celery stems has an antibacterial power against the growth of Streptococcus mutans ATCC 35668 with inhibitory power under chlorhexidine. The best concentration (the biggest inhibition zone) is concentration with 75% extract.

Abstract

Many parents do not realize how important primary teeth are to their children, they think that primary teeth will be replaced and only permanent teeth need treatment. Tooth persistence is one of the dental and oral health problems where the primary teeth as a guide for the growth of permanent teeth do not fall out on time, while the replacement teeth have erupted. This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of parental knowledge about dental growth and dental persistence in children with special needs students aged 6 - 12 years at the Kotabaru State Special School. This type of research is an analytic study with a cross sectional design. Samples were taken using a total sampling technique of 74 samples at the Kotabaru State Special School. The analysis was carried out using the Chi-Square Test. The results showed that the knowledge of parents about tooth growth was mostly good and the persistence of teeth in children with special needs aged 6-12 years mostly did not have dental persistence. Based on the results of the Chi-Square statistical test, p-value > , it means that Ha is rejected. The conclusion of this study shows that there is no relationship between parental knowledge about tooth growth and dental persistence in children with special needs aged 6-12 years at the Kotabaru State Special School. Dental health workers are expected to cooperate with schools and parents so that a dental and oral nursing care program for children with special needs is expected. The role of parents is to maintain and increase more special attention for children with special needs who are in the period of child development.

Abstract

Since 1901, Rigolet has found that patients with little or no salivary secretions, for example due to aprialismus, radiation therapy for malignant cancer, and xerostomia, have an increasing percentage of dental caries. Saliva is one component that affects the process of caries because saliva always wet the teeth so that it affects the environment in the oral cavity. Saliva also has different composition and concentration that can affect the condition of salivary secretion so that the environment of the oral cavity of each individual is different. This study aims to determine the differences in consuming pineapple and sweet star fruit on saliva pH. This type of research is a literature study, the design used in this study is a meaningful literature study, data collection techniques by conducting a review of books, literature, notes, and various reports relating to the problem to be solved. The results of this study indicate the average value of salivary pH before chewing pineapple is 6.7250 including acid criteria and salivary pH after chewing pineapple is 6.1500 including acid criteria, the results of the method differ quite significantly (significant), while the value The p-value of the t-test is 0,000 which means that the probability is less than 0.05. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that consuming pineapple and sweet star fruit can reduce the level of acidity of salivary pH, taste levels in pineapple and sweet star fruit have the effect of suppressing the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria in a person's oral cavity. It is expected that the community, especially parents, to their children to maintain oral health by consuming fruits that contain fiber, for example pineapple and sweet star fruit
