Abstract

Mathematics plays a very important role in various aspects of human life. Furthermore, learning mathematics can enhance logical, critical, systematic thinking, and problem-solving abilities, which are highly beneficial in daily life. This research aims to analyze the reasoning and problem-solving abilities of students at Mts Nurul Huda Mangaran in Situbondo through the completion of PISA 2012 questions, which the students had not encountered previously. The research approach used is qualitative, allowing the researcher to directly communicate with the respondents to assess the mathematical abilities of the students. Based on the data analysis conducted on 21 respondents, it is evident that the majority of students cannot answer these questions correctly. The challenge they face is difficulty in interpreting the issues presented in the questions. In questions related to inductive reasoning, students are capable of providing answers. However, for deductive reasoning questions, students still struggle to solve the problems presented in the questions.

Abstract

This qualitative research investigates the use of the Math Hero Flashcards in elementary school children's mathematics education. Math Hero Flashcards are specially designed learning tools aimed at enhancing mathematical understanding, accuracy, and mastery of arithmetic operations for numbers 1-10 through interactive games. The study involves direct observation, interviews, and interactive play with children with the aim of understanding the effects of Math Hero Flashcards on children's mathematical understanding, learning motivation, and interest. The results of the research indicate that the use of Math Hero Flashcards enhances elementary school children's mathematical understanding, fosters motivation for learning, and creates a more enjoyable learning experience. However, some interview participants mentioned that they had found alternatives in the form of math game apps on their phones. Therefore, this research underscores the need for integration between physical learning tools like Math Hero Flashcards and learning technology to achieve holistic and engaging mathematics education for children.

Abstract

This research aims to conduct clustering or grouping of Regencies/Cities in Central Java Province based on the number of occurrences of specific diseases in 2022 using the K-Means algorithm. The research results obtained 3 clusters, namely high, medium, and low for 29 Regencies and 6 Cities. The percentage for cluster 1 is 34.29%, consisting of 10 regencies and 2 cities, cluster 2 is 40.00%, consisting of 11 regencies and 3 cities, and cluster 3 is 25.71%, consisting of 8 regencies and 1 city. These clustering results can be used as a basis for making effective strategic decisions in the development of prevention and control efforts for diseases in each region.

Abstract

The phenomenon of modernization that arises in the lives of society has an impact on unhealthy lifestyles. This has led to an increased prevalence of kidney stone disease in recent decades. In this study, a fuzzy inference system will be developed using the Mamdani method for the classification of the large potential occurrence of kidney stones based on urine conditions. The input variables used are urine pH, urea content in urine, and calcium content in urine, while the output variable used is the magnitude of the potential occurrence of kidney stones. The variables included in the fuzzy set are formed by combinations of each variable with its respective linguistic terms. These fuzzy sets are then processed with the help of Matlab software to produce a classification result indicating small or large potential. The classification results from the developed fuzzy inference system provide accurate classifications for users with an accuracy level of 94%. Thus, in general, this fuzzy system can be used to assist in classifying the large potential occurrence of kidney stones, thereby minimizing the number of individuals suffering from this disease as much as possible.

Abstract

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system that enables users to determine their position and time anywhere near the Earth's surface. GPS calculates distance by knowing how long it takes for a radio signal to move from one point to another. Linear algebra, especially augmented matrices and the Gauss-Jordan elimination method, can be applied to solve GPS problems in the case study of a pedestrian lost in the desert. The position of a lost pedestrian in a desert will be determined based on satellite position and time data. The calculation results indicate that the position of the lost pedestrian is in the Bilma desert area, Agadez district, Niger, with coordinates at a longitude of 11.41199 and a latitude of 18.549.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the effect of developing visual teaching media on elementary school students in understanding mathematical concepts. The method used in this research is a literature study method with a qualitative approach. Literature study is a research method carried out by collecting, studying and analyzing references or sources obtained in writing or in written form such as books, journals, articles, documents and other sources of information that are significant to the topic/title to be researched. The data analysis technique used in this research is by collecting data, analyzing the data and drawing conclusions. The data collection technique involves collecting several previous studies to answer how visual learning media influences students' understanding of mathematics.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are very important in 21st century mathematics learning. Critical thinking skills need to exist in every student in order to solve various kinds of problems, especially mathematical problems. According to Facione (2013) the indicators of critical thinking skills are: (1) interpretation, (2) analysis, (3) evaluation, (4) inference, (5) explanation, and (6) self-regulation. A student's response when encountering an obstacle is known as adversity quotient. Adversity quotient has three different types of levels namely: (1) climber, (2) camper, and (3) quitter. The purpose of the following research is to describe the type of research used, research trends related to students' mathematical critical thinking skills in terms of adversity quotient from 2018-2023, and the effect of adversity quotient on students' mathematical critical thinking skills. SLR is the method used by this research. The data collection technique was carried out by reviewing articles related to students' mathematical critical thinking skills in terms of adversity quotient in articles published around 2018-2023. There were 10 articles found through google schoolar and scopus. The results of this study show: (1) the type of research that is often used is qualitative; (2) most research is conducted at the junior high school level; (3) adversity quotient has a positive influence on the results of students' mathematical critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study discusses the necessity of transforming the education system to meet the needs of the present era, particularly in the 21st century. 21st Century Education is defined as an education that integrates knowledge, attitudes, and skills with the mastery of information technology (IT). This shift redirects the focus from teacher-centered learning to student-centered learning. The main objective of this research is to examine how the integration of mathematical knowledge into mathematics instruction can be optimally achieved and to assess its impact on 21st-century mathematical skills. The research methodology employs a qualitative research method. The results of this study are expected to provide insights into the effectiveness of a comprehensive approach in enhancing mathematics education at the elementary level by training students to apply mathematical concepts learned in real-world situations while strengthening their skills for everyday life and the future.

Abstract

Mathematical writing ability significantly impacts students' learning success as it reflects the depth of their understanding of the learning material. Students demonstrating a high level of mathematical resilience can tackle complex issues and obstacles in mathematics learning. The aim of this research is to describe the theoretical framework in studies related to mathematical writing ability and mathematical resilience from 2019 to 2023, as well as to depict trends related to research on mathematical writing ability and mathematical resilience during this period. The research utilizes the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method by examining 17 relevant articles. The findings reveal various definitions and indicators collected in the research. Three dominant indicators are used in studies on mathematical writing ability, and six indicators according to Sumarmo are employed in research on mathematical resilience. Trends in related research tend towards qualitative research types, particularly at the junior high school and high school education levels.
