Abstract

The eastern part of the Ketungau basin that is generally known us the Mandai sub-basin is a sedimentary basin that had been formed since early Tertiary. Fine-grained sedimentary rocks taken from the Mandai Group comprising four samples of mudstone and three samples of siltstone. Based on Scanning Electron Microscope analysis seven samples fine sediment of the Mandai group consist of illite (K1-1.5Al4(Si7-6.5Al1-1.5O20)(OH)4, smectite (1/2Ca)0.7(Al,Mg,Fe)4(Si,Al)8O20)nH2O and kaolinite (Al4(Si4O10)(OH)8. Other minerals are silica or fine-grained quarzt, feldspar, and algae (botryococcus). Diagenesis processes show that fine sediment of the Mandai group have undergone a diagenetic process within an mesodiagenetic level. Fine sediments have been buried at more than 2500 - 4000 m depth by temperature varying from 80° to 120°C.Key words : Ketungau Basin, SEM, diagenesis, siltstone, mudstone

Abstract

The Jelai volcanics are exposed at Mount Rian and the surrounding area, northeastern part of Kalimantan. Major, trace and rare earth element data are presented. The volcanics consist of basalt to andesite with silica content ranging from about 52 to 63.5 wt%. Fractional crystallization involving olivine, pyroxene, plagioclas, and magnetite may resposible for the geochemical variation in the volcanics. However, there is a silica gap about 5wt% between basaltic andesite and andesite. Two trends of fractionation are observed, i.e., the tholeiitic and calc-alkaline trends in the basaltic and andesitic magmas respectivelly. Precipitation of magnetite, as a new phase, in the andesitic magma might change the fractionation from tholeiitic to calc-alkaline trends. Initial crystallization of Fe-Ti magmentite, pyroxene and plagioclase, that produce a rapid compositional change in the residual basaltic andesite to andesite liquids over a small temperature interval would cause a compositional gap.Keyword : Mount Rian volcanics, geochemistry, compositional gapAbstrak

Abstract

Microfacies and diagenesis of limestones from the Nakfunu Formation have been studied to tracing the depositional mechanism and post depositional geological histories of the rocks. Limestone samples randomly taken from the field on the Cretaceous rock formation, for petrographic analysis. Petrogrtaphic analysis of the fourty two limestone samples showing that the type of the limestones are packstone, wackestone, and mudstone. The depositional environments of this formation are include basin margin, open sea shelf near the lower slope, and deep sea basin with slow sedimentation. The limestones have affected by various kinds of diagenetic proccesses post-sedimentation. The diagenetic procceses recorded under the polarization microscope as: cementation, replacement, silicification, recrystallization, dolomitization, compaction, fracturing, and dissolution.Keywords: Cretaceous, limestone, petrography, microfacies, diagenesis.

Abstract

Sadeng valley or ancient river of Sadeng had head water at surrounding Giriwoyo, Wonogiri. Baturetno basin spread outs widely at the south of Wonogiri. When the Old Lawu Mountain erupted, the volcanic products flowed and blocked the Solo River caused big flooding that covered the Baturetno basin. At any time the river might cut the volcanic block, big flooding happed in the valley of the Solo River. As the result, floras and faunas which lived in the valley were got dead. In the next flooding their skeleton were transported and deposited at the Solo terrace. Such things were happened many times. Animal fossils and homonids could possibly much more abundance in the older terraces rather than in the younger one.Key words: Sadeng Valley, Beturetno Basin, Bengawan Solo Terraces, relationship

Abstract

The result of geological survey in Tapanuli Selatan indicates that there are a relationship between magmatism process and the possibility of mineral and energy occurences. Field observation and supported with laboratory analysis showing some mineral occurs in the area i.e. gold, base metal (Cu, Pb, Zn), zeolit, kaolin, andesitic lava dan tras. Multiple intrusions may control the occurrence of base metals and gold resources and the eruption of some volcanoes was producing another mineral resources. Resources of geothermal also found in Sipirok as another implication of volcanic process in Tapanuli Selatan area. It may related to the activity of Mount Sibualbuali in the past. Occurs as the effect of heat release from the magmatism process, hydrocarbon of Barumun Basin and some layers of coal has found in this area. High calori of coal was occurs in a thin layer of Sihapas Formation.Keywords : magmatism, resources, minerals, hydrocarbon, geothermal
