Abstract

This research seeks to elaborate on intellectual discourse in Noam Chomsky's political philosophy. According to Chomsky, an intellectual can be a driving lever for societal change. This research aims to understand intellectual identity and responsibility in a democratic society. This research uses a qualitative method in the form of a critical perspective or approach and finds four important points. First, there are two intellectual identities according to Chomsky: moral value-oriented and technocratic. Second, people who are called intellectuals are people who have a sincere intention to elevate human nature: freedom, intelligence and creative power to create. Thus, intellectual status applies to all social statuses, both experts or experts in the academic world, practitioners, religious leaders, public officials, activists and the wider community. Third, the duties and responsibilities of an intellectual are to voice the truth and expose lies. Fourth, in Indonesia there are several intellectual challenges: the historical experience of intellectuals in the past being ostracized, sidelined and even killed has left its own horror for critical voices at this time; there are still intellectuals who neglect their responsibility to the wider community, both academics, activists, practitioners and even religious leaders; there are intellectuals who speak critically for justice and freedom, but their voices are ignored or even silenced. Indonesian intellectuals are called to educate society in all areas of life such as social, economic, political, cultural, educational, religious, environmental and media

Abstract

The talk about death in the context of pandemic is an interesting issue to study. Death is not merely reduced as a result of the pandemic, but needs to be realized as a basic limited and temporary human trait. The purpose of this study is to tame the perception of death in the struggle of human life in the midst of tense situations. The methodology used in the study is a qualitative method with phenomenologically critical data exposure. Literature review are used to collect data. Data analysis using the Heideggerian ontology approach. The findings in this study suggest that humans will in fact experience or face the death. Sooner or later humans will experience it. To tame the fears of human death is to anticipate and behave towards that reality. The attitude that needs to be collected is to look at death in a rationality and be critical of it.

Abstract

Pucatn music is music that is used in traditional rituals of the Dayak Barai tribe but is starting to be abandoned. In addition, Pucatn Music has never been used in liturgical celebrations of the Catholic Church. Based on this background, this study aims to explore the meaning of pale music, which has long been neglected, and introduce it into the liturgy of the Catholic Church. Through a qualitative study using a literature review approach, interviews, and phenomenological descriptions, the researchers found that Pucatn music is sacred music for the Barai Dayak tribe. Pucatn music has meaning for the life of the Dayak Barai people and various tones in the music. Second, pale music can be used in liturgical music because it meets the liturgical criteria, namely the compatibility of notes with inculturated liturgical music. Pale music can be used to accompany spiritual songs and can lead people to experience God's salvation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to discuss the role of the church in youth ministry which fosters spirituality. Youth ministry is an integrated ministry in the ministry of the church as a whole. Young people are part of the community of the body of Christ who should grow and contribute to the community. The church's service orientation towards young people should also bring young people to the growth of spirituality because spirituality is fundamental in one's spiritual life. For that the church must start thinking about how to produce young people for the future. The church must start by preparing young people who can be relied upon in the future. The church must also provide examples and values of life for young people so they can understand about church life. Youth who are influenced by postmodern culture express their spirituality with unique expressions. This uniqueness is a challenge for the church to find strategic ways so that youth ministry is able to produce services that are oriented towards growing spirituality. In addition, the church must also place young people as part of a community that can fully contribute to the process of growing their spirituality. Therefore, a community-based form of spiritual growth is needed that involves all members of the community so that this spiritual growth can occur in the lives of young people, as well as having an impact on the community because young people are the church.

Abstract

The focus of this paper is the elaboration of In Vitro Fertilization and how to respond to it in the light of Catholic moral theology, particularly within the territory of the Asian Catholic Church. The author wants to see how and what basis the Catholic Church uses in response to this phenomenon. This elaboration is then continued by responding in the form of what the Church, especially the Asian Church, should do to respond to this. The method used in this writing is a critical reading of several sources in the form of Church documents, articles on In Vitro Fertilization and several supporting sources. The findings of this paper are that the practice of In Vitro Fertilization in addition to being medically risky for women who do so is also contrary to Catholic moral teachings that put human dignity at the center of its study. The second finding is that the Asian Church is a dialogical Church, so what the Asian Church can strive to respond to is moral dialogue within the framework of moral formation as a concrete form of the Prophetic voice of the Church.
