Abstract

This research aimed to determine the form and function of WH-Questions in the Mongondow language. Mongondow speakers were the subjects of this research. This research was the descriptive qualitative method. The procedure of this research consisted of selecting informants based on certain criteria, collecting through a through interviews and observations, rechecking, the data, and writing the report. The data were analyzed through unitization, categorization, explanation, and interpretation according to Bogdan & Biklen. The results of this research showed that WH-Question ns in Mongondowwasguage were formed from question words, there are 10 forms of question words commonly used in WH-Questhe tions in Mongondow language, there are Onu, Ki'ine, Onda, To'onu, Doda'anda, Nongonu, Mongonu, Pongonu, Na'anda, and Tongonu. For the function of WH-questions in Mongondow language, the question words that form WH-questions sewasas bweren the front position of the sentence in the middle of the sentence when it has a time marker verb. Onu and Onda question words that used verbs of time-marking might use the prefix conn". The word "ki'ine" could be changed to "ine" when asking for an object description because the position of "ki" would be replaced with the words "koi" (to) and "takin" (with). So, the function of WH-questions in Mongondow language has different depending on the structure of the WH-questions sentences and the structure of the question words

Abstract

This research aims to find out the differences between comics and movie by using a qualitative method, effective to describe the problem and give more explanation about this comic and movie Iron Man. This research was conducted in Comic (Tales of Suspense: Iron Man) and Movie Iron Man (2008). To fulfill the research objective, the researcher took an experimental study involving a sample of a movie with a duration of 2 hours 6minutes and a comic strip of 13 pages. Data is obtained through analysis in books and comics, reading, and seeing the problems obtained. The data in the comics show more past events at that time than the data in the movie. in the comics it shows realistic events in the 1963 era and the values or data shown in the movie are more into the modern era. Based on the results of the research, the researcher concludes that the comics and the Iron Man film have differences that make each story with the right elements, stories that have suggestions through time

Abstract

This study focuses on 9 basic sentence patterns that used in Barack Obama speech which he delivered when visited Universitas Indonesia Jakarta. The aim of the study is to find out how many sentence patterns that used in Barack Obama Speech. This study used qualitative research which the researcher analyzed through the script. The results of the study showed that there were 8 sentence patterns in the speech as follows, they were pattern 1 (9 sentences), pattern 2 (2 sentences), pattern 3 (26 sentences), pattern 4 (1 sentence), pattern 6 (20 sentences), pattern 7 (103 sentences), pattern 8 (1 sentence), pattern 9 (2 sentences). Based on the result, it can be concluded that the pattern 7 were most dominant of the other pattern, then there was 1 pattern was not found, pattern 5. In this research there were various kinds of sentences pattern in 1 speech that can be used to help you improve writing skill, for English learners especially for the future researchers

Abstract

As we all know in the world of education, reading is an important thing. Because by reading we can find various important things and also add knowledge. Of course in reading we need motivation to be able to read long. This study aims to measure and find out how much motivation 10th graders have to read. By using quantitative methods, this study succeeded in finding out how much interest in reading the 10th graders had based on gender. In this study also given some understanding of what motivation is. And the results of this study showed that the teacher should provide interesting reading or writing so that it creates enthusiasm in reading to students. The perceptions of male and female students in this school were found to be the same, so there was no difference between who was more motivated in reading, in addition this the result of this study is expected to help readers and future researchers in discussing similar problems

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the types of cognitive domain, in Senior High School English Textbook uses Wh questions based on Revised Bloom's Taxonomy, as well as the distribution of higher and lower order thinking skills in Wh questions. The descriptive qualitative method uses to perform this investigation. The data of this research are Wh questions in Buku Guru Bahasa Inggris for grade 10th Senior High School with 2013 Curiculum published by Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan, After examining the data, the findings of this study reveal that the Wh questions in the textbook did not cover all of the cognitive domains: (C1) 66.66%, (C2) 33.33%, (C3), (C4), (C5) and (C6) 0%. The distribution of low-order thinking, Remembering (C1) 28 questions and understanding (C2) 14 questions, include 42 questions 100%. There are no issues in the distribution of high-order thinking skill such as analyzing, evaluating, and creating (0%). It finds that the ditribution of high and low thinking skills in Wh questions in Buku Guru Bahasa Inggris for grade 10th Senior High School is unbalance.

Abstract

Literary works is a form of someone’s creation that has meaning or has a purpose by the author. Literary as a result of human creation will never be separated from language which is the main medium in literary works. This research aims to analyze the minor character, Luna Lovegood using qualitative research method based on the theory of Robert Stanton. Stanton said that there are four ways to analyze a character: character’s words, character’s behavior, conversations between character, and character’s action. The writer uses an intrinsic approach to analyze the character of Luna Lovegood. The data taken from the novel by J.K Rowling, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. After conducting research on the novel Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the findings obtained by the writer regarding the character of Luna Lovegood are, Luna has characters such as appreciation of beauty and excellence which is obtained based on character’s words. Kindness obtained based on character’s behavior. Bravery, curiosity and humility obtained based on the conversations between character. And kindness, bravery too also found based on character’s action
