Abstract

E-learning dramatically changes the learning process. As a result, both teachers and students have to work hard to adapt to the process. In response to these changes, this study aims to analyze the perceptions of junior high school, senior high school, and parents regarding online learning. This study involved 44 parents, 24 junior high school students, and 20 high school students. Data were collected using two questionnaires. The data collected were analyzed quantitatively in the form of percentages. The results of data analysis show that junior high school students use computers/devices for online learning activities; however, they consider traditional methods (live class meetings) to be more appropriate than online learning. (2) High school students also use their computers/devices for online learning and have full support from their teachers, but they prefer traditional methods. They consider traditional methods more effective than online learning, and (3) parents prefer traditional methods over online learning. Therefore, teachers are advised to be creative in teaching online; parents are expected to continue to control their students' online learning. More research is needed so that more information about online learning can be obtained.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to see the effectiveness of Task-Based Language Teaching in Teaching Writing. Writing is very important for students because they can express themselves in writing form and being brave to state their own opinions. Many English teacher got some problem in teaching writing, the teacher must choose a strategy which is suitable on the students conditions. Not only speaking ability that must be taught and applied in the class but also writing ability. The data of this research was students scores in writing procedure text. The population of this study were the first grade and the sample was 31 students of smp berea tondano in academic year 2017/2018. The research used one group pre-test and post-test experiment. The result showed that there was an increase between the pre-test (62,40) and tghe post-test (67,60). In this research, the research used quantitative experimental research as design of this research. Then, the research identified and analyzed based on statistic calculation for getting good result accuratelty, completely and systematically. A teacher should be creative to use various strategy in english teaching moreover teaching writing. In choosing the strategy, the teacher should pay attention to the material will be given.

Abstract

This study aims at revealing teachers’ perception toward the online platforms such as Google Classroom and WhatsApp used during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research applies qualitative descriptive method and involves English teachers in Bitung, a port and growing city in North Sulawesi in Eastern Indonesian, as the research respondents. The data are obtained from semi-structured interview. The data are then analyzed in the frame of Miles and Huberman triangulation. The findings of the research show that the teachers tend to use Google Classroom and WhatsApp as their means of managing the learning practices and communication during the pandemic. As online platforms. These are regarded to be effective for teachers to keep in touch with the students and conduct online teaching including sending videos, making a group chat, and having video conference. In addition to having advantage and disadvantages, these online platforms are considered being appropriate to assist the students to conduct their learning from home. Yet, some aspects such as the availability of internet infrastructure and networks seem to be potential hindrances ahead.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the different kinds of instructional approaches (process skill and goals oriented) found in the process of learning narrative writing. The use of different instructional approaches gave different results on students achievement in narrative writing. Students who have different reading interests also showed different achievement in narrative writing. These two variables have a relationship in implementing instructional approach and reading interest. It showed that the testing result of interaction between the variables of process skill and goals oriented instructional approaches to narrative writing achievement is possible. It can be concluded that the use of different instructional approach (process skill and goals oriented) give different final results. The same result is also done to students who have different reading interests as they will give different narrative writing achievements.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to discover the existence, the average level, and the most common type of foreign language speaking anxiety on college students. The approach of this research is quantitative. The research is conducted at the English Education Department of Universitas Negeri Manado. The population of the respondents of this research is the 6th semester students of the English Education Department of Universitas Negeri Manado. The sample consists of 20 respondents of the 6th semester students chosen using the random sampling process. The research instrument that the writers use in this study is the Foreign Language Speaking Anxiety Scale (FLSAS). The finding of this research shows that all of the respondents have experienced symptoms of speaking anxiety and have an average level of 90,3 for speaking anxiety. It is also found that the cause for foreign language speaking anxiety on most of the students is test anxiety. The result of the research suggests that the 6th semester students of the English Education Department of Universitas Negeri Manado have speaking anxiety with an average level of Moderate, and the most common type of speaking anxiety was Test Anxiety.

Abstract

This research aimed to describe students’ perception of the use of YouTube in English translation classes. In conducting this research, the researcher used a questionnaire and the result was presented descriptively. The researcher analyzed the data according to three indicators such as accuracy, acceptability, and readability. Accuracy refers to whether the meaning of the source language is similar to the target language. The term acceptability refers to whether or not the translation has been revealed according to the target language rules, norms, or cultures. The readability deals with how natural and easy a translation can be read by the target readers. For the first indicator's accuracy, according to data analysis, it can be analyzed that the students choose 60% agree, 20% strongly agree, 17% choose neutral and 3% disagree. For the second indicator acceptability, 56% Agree, 27% Strongly agree, 16% neutral and 1% disagree. For the last indicator readability, 56 % agree, 30% strongly agree, 13% neutral and 1% choose to disagree. Based on this research, the researcher concluded that students’ perception of the use of youtube in English translation class was needed to help them understand the translation and learning process.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh informasi empiris tentang pemerolehan bahasa anak kembar usia dua tahun tujuh bulan dan gambaran pola pengembangan kecerdasan linguistik anak kembar dalam kehidupan keluarganya. Penelitian ini dilakukan kepada dua anak kembar dari sebuah keluarga yang memiliki status sosial ekonomi yang cukup baik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) dalam mengujarkan satu dan dua serta tiga kata diawali dengan mengujarkan suku kata awal dan akhir yang dilakukannya secara bergantian; (2) dalam pemerolehan bahasa sangat tergantung pada pola kehidupan berbahasa yang ada di lingkungan keluarganya, yakni sedikit banyaknya bergantung pada pola berbahasa yang dilakukan oleh ibu mereka, kemudian ayah, dan saudara-saudaranya; (3) kebanyakan kata-kata yang mampu diujarkan menggambarkan kegiatan yang dilakukan di dalam kehidupan keluarga anak tersebut; (4) kedua anak itu baik dalam mengikuti kegiatan keluarga sehingga mereka mampu mengujarkan kata-kata yang sesuai dengan fakta sebenarnya; dan (5) kedua anak tersebut kurang memiliki bakat bahasa yang dib aw a sejak lahirnya sehingga orangtua perlu mengembangkannya agar tidak mengalami keterlambatan dalam pemerolehan bahasa yang baik dan benar.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh metode pembelajaran dan motivasi belajar terhadap keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggris siswa SMA Negeri 4 Kendari. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada SMA Negeri 4 Kendari Sulawesi Tenggara. Sampel penelitian dipilih menggunakan teknik Multi Stage Random Sampling sebanyak 56 orang siswa. Data penelitian ini meliputi data keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggris siswa (Y) dan motivasi belajar bahasa Inggris (X). Instrumen penelitian dikembangkan dengan cara menyusun kisi-kisi yang diturunkan dari kerangka teoritis variabel penelitian. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis varian dua jalur (ANAVA 2x2) yang dilanjutkan dengan uji Tukey (Uji-t). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelompok siswa yang memiliki motivasi belajar bahasa Inggris tinggi, penggunaan metode pembelajaran Community Language Learning (CLL) memberikan pengaruh lebih baik terhadap keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggris dibandingkan dengan metode pembelajaran Audiolingual (AL) yang dibuktikan dengan harga Qhitung=96,45>Qtabel=3,09 pada taraf signifikansi (a=0,05) dan kelompok siswa yang memiliki motivasi belajar bahasa Inggris rendah, penggunaan metode pembelajaran Community Language LEarning (CLL) memberikan pengaruh yang baik terhadap keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggris dibandingkan dengan penggunaan metode pembelajaran Audiolingual (AL) yang dibuktikan dengan harga Qhitung=16,29>Qtabel=3,09 pada taraf signifikansi (a=0,05).

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the types of cognitive domain, in Senior High School English Textbook uses Wh questions based on Revised Bloom's Taxonomy, as well as the distribution of higher and lower order thinking skills in Wh questions. The descriptive qualitative method uses to perform this investigation. The data of this research are Wh questions in Buku Guru Bahasa Inggris for grade 10th Senior High School with 2013 Curiculum published by Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan, After examining the data, the findings of this study reveal that the Wh questions in the textbook did not cover all of the cognitive domains: (C1) 66.66%, (C2) 33.33%, (C3), (C4), (C5) and (C6) 0%. The distribution of low-order thinking, Remembering (C1) 28 questions and understanding (C2) 14 questions, include 42 questions 100%. There are no issues in the distribution of high-order thinking skill such as analyzing, evaluating, and creating (0%). It finds that the ditribution of high and low thinking skills in Wh questions in Buku Guru Bahasa Inggris for grade 10th Senior High School is unbalance.
