Abstract

This research is about Framing of Sentence Complexity in Editorial News: A Case Study in “The Jakarta Post and Kompas” using the topic of "Health". The problems in this study are: what is the level of complexity of sentences in “The Jakarta Post” newspaper in the form of editorial news, what is the level of complexity of sentences in “Kompas” newspaper in the form of editorial news and how is the comparison of the level of complexity of sentences in “The Jakarta Post and Kompas” newspapers in the form of editorial news. The research method used is qualitative with a case study design. The data sources used are newspapers from “The Jakarta Post and Kompas”. It was concluded that the results of research on the level of complexity of sentences in “The Jakarta Post and Kompas” newspapers in the form of news editorials about "Health", simple sentences and compound sentences often appear in the construction of complex sentences. This is because the two newspapers avoid sentences that are too long so that they can minimize the wastage of words in sentences and can provide information to readers by using appropriate conjunctions. The more concise the presentation of language and sentences in newspapers, the easier it will be for readers to get information.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of hate speech impoliteness in Instagram social media which are divided into two, namely positive impoliteness and negative impoliteness. In social media, especially on Instagram, there is a lot of impoliteness in comments. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method in the data collection process and uses advanced techniques in the form of observation and note-taking techniques. The source of the data comes from Instagram gossip accounts in the form of statuses and comment columns where the data form is impolite hate speech in comments on Instagram. Identification of the data in this study is in the form of hate speech impoliteness strategies which will be divided into two, namely positive impoliteness and negative impoliteness. Data collection techniques using the method of observing and note-taking techniques. The data analysis technique in this study uses the pragmatic equivalent method, namely the method in which the opponent or speech partner is the determining tool. The results of the analysis show that there is positive impoliteness and negative impoliteness in Instagram information accounts.

Abstract

Subject is a basic concept in linguistics which designates the subject as the main element of the sentence. In Malay, the subject is usually placed at the beginning of the sentence and acts as the subject of the action or situation described in the sentence. This topic is also related to the concept of grammar, which involves the study of how the components of a sentence are related and form a complete and correct sentence structure. The subject is a sentence element that shows the topic of conversation or topic being discussed. Folklore is a story that lives in the midst of society and develops by word of mouth. Folklore has several characteristics, including the way it is conveyed. Basically, folklore is an oral tradition and is a story passed down from generation to generation. The Batu Bara Malay community has a refined civilization and manners. The folklore analyzed in this study is a story entitled "The Legend of Siti Payung". Research shows that the language in Batu Bara folklore is SVO and VOS.using Ergative and S-disaggregated Subjects (active language)

Abstract

This descriptive study aims to find out (1) the type of speech acts in the main news story of Wasapada newspaper, (2) the form of speech acts in the main news story of Waspada Post newspaper, and (3) the function of speech acts in the main news story of Waspada Post newspaper. The research object is sentences about the main news of Wasapada newspaper. Data was collected through a documentation method using data tag tools. Based on the analysis carried out, the results of this study show that (1) the main news stories in Wasapada newspaper all contain speech and expression acts, (2) the dominant form used in the main news is the reporting form 27, (3) the main form of news contains speech act function, affirmative function is 27, directive function is 4, expressive function is 1, declarative function is 1 and it n has no function delegate. Among these functions, there is a more prominent function used in important news, which is the decisive function. Assertive function was divided into three such as, explaining assertive, announcing assertive, and presuming assertive. Assertive function dominantly used because that function was useful as an expression to explaining speech, presuming speech and announcing speech to the opponent of speech.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of connection errors, types of repetition errors and types of compound errors in the speech of grade VII students at Al-Maksum private information technology college. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research design with the research subjects being grade VII students at Al-Maksum private IT college. The subject of this study concerns morphological errors in students' speech. Data were collected using audio recording method. Data analysis is performed by transcribing data, arranging, collating, presenting, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that there were 62 arrangement errors, 46 repetition errors and no layout errors.

Abstract

Internet use in Indonesia is very active with the existence of social media. This gave birth to a new phenomenon among internet users with creativity in making memes. The memes that are currently developing are in the form of images and videos. This meme is defined as an idea, behavior, style, entertainment that spreads from one person to another. Memes on social media have become a vehicle for entertainment because they are funny and contain parodies. However, memes also often cause problems where someone thinks that everything can be used as a joke in the form of a meme and the aim is to corner certain parties. Moreover, if a meme contains elements of a political meme, many people like to edit the meme as a daily joke. The aim of this research is to get an overview of the semiotic elements in political memes circulating on social media. This research method is semiotic analysis using Charles Peirce's semiotic approach (signs, objects and interpreters). The research results concluded that there is a close relationship between signs, objects and interpreters. Meme signs (images) created by netizens responding to feuds between political memes. The object (meaning) generally contains scorn, sarcasm and netizens' dislike for Lulung and is packaged in the form of satire (humor). Meanwhile, the interpretation or attitudes (thoughts) of meme creators and netizens tend to be the same. Where netizens generally accept and agree with the contents of this meme and support each other.

Abstract

Currently, the use of the internet and gadgets and social media cannot be separated from everyday life. Behind the convenience offered by sophisticated technology, such as gadgets and social media, it has a negative impact and is detrimental to its users, one of which is addiction. Addiction starts from the production of dopamine in the brain which is triggered by likes, retweets, shares and emoticon reactions from other social media users who interact on their social media accounts. One of the Indonesian artists and singers, Maudy Ayunda, once discussed the book Digital Minimalist on her personal YouTube page. Maudy Ayunda discusses "Life without social media = happier?! Maudy Ayunda's Booklist.” The use of language in society in this era is more diverse. The use of language in society in this era is more diverse. With this diversity, it is possible for someone to change the language they use to another language when communicating. This phenomenon is called code switching and code mixing. One of them is in a video uploaded by Maudy Ayunda. This research aims to analyze the language code mixing used by Maudy Ayunda in the YouTube video entitled "Life without social media = happier?! Maudy Ayunda's Booklist.” The research method is descriptive qualitative research. From the analysis results, there are two languages ​​used in YouTube videos, namely Indonesian and English. The use of these two languages ​​creates code mixing in the video. There are twenty-five data on the code-mixing phenomenon. The code mixing in the YouTube video is due to the speaker's background being bilingual.

Abstract

This research entitled “An Analysis of Illocutionary Acts in The Fault in Our Stars” proposed by John R. Searle. However, this thesis limits the study of illocutionary acts only to directive and commissive type. Directive is illocutionary act which by uttering this type, a speaker gets the hearer to do certain action, for example ordering, asking, requesting, etc. While commissive is illocutionary act which by uttering this type, a speaker commits himself to do certain action, for example promising, threatening, guaranteeing, etc. This research used quotations of The Fault in Our Stars movie taken from a website as data to be analyzed. The research used descriptive qualitative research as method to do the research. The Fault in Our Stars movie character uses directive type to request, to implore, to advise, to order, to demand, to command, or to challenge the hearers to do certain actions, to forbid the hearers of doing something, and to ask questions so that the other characters of the movie provide information, give confirmation, give opinion, further explanation, etc. While by uttering commissive type, they promise the hearers that they as speakers will do certain future action, for example promising to do something.

Abstract

This research is qualitative research, namely by providing a systematic and accurate description of code switching and mixing in social interactions among students on the Graha Nusantara University Padangsidimpuan campus. we can find that the interactions carried out by students on campus actually involve code switching, this is due to the mastery of more than one language and then the speaker, listener, the presence of a third person, informal conversations used in the campus area. And what causes code mixing to occur is the use of popular terms such as the phrase "kapan manyabi", the presence of a conversation partner, the presence of a third person and to evoke a sense of humor.
