Abstract

Deforestation is one of the environmental problems faced by Indonesia. Deforestation arise do to wood production and land conversion into oil palm plantations. Indonesia is one of the largest timber and palm oil exporters in the world market. In many cases, production of timber and palm oil often does not pay attention to the environmental damage. According to the Directorate of Inventory and Monitoring of Forest Resources (2017), the highest deforestation occurred on the islands of Kalimantan and Sumatra. This study aims to prove the Environmental Kuznet Curve hypothesis and find the effect of timber production and oil palm land on deforestation on Kalimantan Island and Sumatra Island in 2010 - 2017 using the Panel Least Square (PLS) method. The research results show that the Environmental Kuznet Curve (EKC) hypothesis is not proven and the variables of timber production and oil palm land significantly influence deforestation.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify the efficiency validity of the weak and semi-strong form of foreign exchange market in Indonesia. The study use monthly data from exchange rate of six foreign currencies (Canadian Dollar, Swiss Franc, Euro, Pound Sterling, Japanese Yen and US Dollar) to Rupiah for the period January 2009 – December 2018. The efficiency of the weak form of the foreign exchange market is tested using units root test (Augmented Dickey Fuller and Phillips Perron), while semi-strong form efficiency was tested using Johansen cointegration. The unit root results show that the six currencies behave randomly so that they are consistent with the weak form of efficiency and the Johansen cointegration test shows that there is a long-term relationship between currencies which indicates that the market is not efficient in the semi-strong form.

Abstract

Fiscal policy is implemented by the government to influence the real sector through taxes and spending. Furthermore, government use It to mitigate the impact of the current business cycle in a country's economy (boom or depression) so fiscal policy indicates the government's commitment as an economic stabilizer. Referring to theory, fiscal policy should be countercyclical. However, it is possible that fiscal behavior is procyclical. This study determines the behavior of fiscal policy in ASEAN in the 2001-2018 period using the Panel Least Square (PLS). We estimate three models of fiscal behavior to examine the fiscal pattern. The estimation results show that the pattern of fiscal policy in ASEAN is countercyclical for models based on government revenue and fiscal balance, while model based on government revenue is procyclical.

This research was conducted to find the effect of Dana perimbngan and regional income on regional spending. In addition, this study aims to analyze whether there is a flypaper effect in the districts/cities in North Kalimantan using Panel Linear Regression Model. The result indicates no flypaper effect since not only Dana Perimbangan but also regional income significantly effect regional spending.
