Abstract

This research aims to explore the phenomenon of terrorism and radicalism, as well as the factors underlying their spread. Using a qualitative approach, this research involved in-depth interviews with former members of terrorist groups, security practitioners, academics, and government officials. Ethnographic studies and content analyses of documents, social media, and propaganda materials were also conducted to understand the internal dynamics and communication strategies of terrorist groups. The results show that terrorist groups utilise social media and digital platforms to spread radical ideology and recruit new members through narratives that manipulate political, economic, and social issues. Preventing terrorism requires a comprehensive approach that involves international cooperation, education that emphasises human values and tolerance, and equitable economic development. Effective de-radicalisation programmes are also essential to help individuals affected by radical ideologies return to society. This research makes an important contribution in developing more effective prevention and counterterrorism strategies, by understanding the factors that drive terrorism and radicalism and identifying comprehensive prevention measures.

Abstract

This study aims to trace the historical development of theology in Islam and identify the factors that influence the emergence of various theological schools in Islam. This research also aims to understand how different theological views affect the way of thinking and lifestyle of Muslims. The research method used is the historical method which includes four stages: heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. The results show that the development of Islamic theology can be divided into three main periods: classical, medieval, and modern. In the classical period, the rational and scientific Sunnatullah theology flourished, resulting in high productivity in various fields. However, in the medieval period, the fatalistic theology of Jabariyah dominated, causing a decline in theological thought. In the modern period, Islamic thinkers such as Sayyid Ahmad Khan, Ismail Raji Al-Faruqi, Muhammad Abduh, and Hasan Hanafi tried to adapt Islamic teachings to the changing times through a rational and contextual approach. They emphasized the importance of ijtihad and reassessment of the language and historical context of classical theology to answer the challenges of modernity. This research contributes to enriching contemporary Islamic studies with in-depth insights into the evolution of theological thought in Islam.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of contextual learning methods and the use of technology in enhancing students' knowledge and motivation in teaching Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in Vocational High Schools (SMK). The respondents of this study were 60 eleventh-grade students of SMKN 2 Depok Sleman, divided into two groups: an experimental group of 30 students using contextual learning methods and technology, and a control group of 30 students using conventional methods. The research method employed was quasi-experimental. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests to measure students' knowledge and questionnaires to evaluate their learning motivation. The results showed that the experimental group experienced a significant increase in both knowledge scores and motivation compared to the control group. The average post-test score increase for the experimental group was 20 points, while the control group only increased by 6 points. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of contextual learning and technology in teaching PAI, which has been minimally explored in previous literature. The global benefit of this research is to provide insights and models for developing innovative teaching methods that can be applied to various subjects and educational contexts worldwide, creating more relevant and engaging learning environments for students.

Abstract

This study aims to identify parents' perceptions of the use of digital technology in learning Islamic Religious Education (PAI). The research method used a mixed methods approach, combining quantitative questionnaires from 200 parents of students in Jakarta and qualitative interviews with 20 parents. The results showed that 85% of parents found digital technology easy to use and 78% found it effective. However, only 65% felt they received adequate technical support and 70% stated the learning content was in line with religious values. Qualitative findings showed an appreciation for interactive methods, but there were concerns about internet stability and content monitoring. The novelty of this study is the holistic approach that examines parents' perceptions by considering infrastructure, technology skills and attitudes towards digital learning. This research expands the understanding of the factors that influence the acceptance of technology in religious education. The global usefulness of this study provides insights for religious education in different countries, helping policy makers and educators develop strategies for the use of digital technology in religious education, thereby improving the overall quality of education.
