Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic condition that occurs when there is an increase in glucose levels in the blood because the body cannot produce enough insulin or use insulin effectively. In stressful conditions, it can increase the hormone adrenaline which can convert glycogen reserves in the liver into glucose and increase blood sugar in diabetes mellitus patients. The objective of this research was to prove the effect of Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) on stress levels in Diabetes Mellitus patients. Research design pre-post test control group design. The experimental group was given treatment in the form of progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) while the control group received treatment as usual/conventional. The samples in this research were some DM patients at the Mentikan Community Health Center, Mojokerto City, totaling 35 respondents. The results of the pre-test and post-test in the treatment and control groups showed that there was a reduction in stress. It was found that there was a significant decrease in stress in both the treatment group, this was indicated by p=0.001 for the treatment group, while in the control group it was found to be p=0.303, so the decrease stress is not significant. After carrying out PMR, it is hoped that the client will be able to manage the body's condition in response to stress.

Abstract

Menstrual discomfort is characterized by lower abdominal cramps with varying intensity ranging from mild to severe. The root cause of menstrual discomfort lies in the increased or imbalanced production of endometrial prostaglandins during menstruation. Menstrual discomfort has negative impacts on daily life by disrupting activities, reducing focus and motivation for learning, and causing significant financial losses due to the high costs of medication and medical treatments. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of using acoustic music as a distraction method to reduce menstrual pain. Research sample of 38 respondents was selected using simple random sampling from a total population of 256 students. This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest procedure. Research instrument consist menstrual data, general questionnaire sheets, Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) sheets, standard operating procedures (SOPs), smartphones, earphones, and modern audio music. The data analysis indicated that the use of modern acoustic music as distraction technique was effective to reduce menstrual pain among female students at SMAN 4 Kota Kediri

Abstract

Clinical competence of Nursing student depends on the supervision received during clinical learning. Supervisors in the clinical area plays an important role for Nursing student when developing their clinical competence in a clinical learning phase. During clinical learning, the expectation is that Nursing student should be able to integrate theory and practice when working with patients. This paper aims to account for those factors that affect competence during clinical learning of Nursing student through a Problem Based Learning curriculum. Thus, the paper reflects a section from a study whose objective was to investigate and outline professional nurses’ understandings of the clinical competencies of final-year Nursing student participating in a Problem Based Learning curriculum during clinical training in the North West Province, South Africa. A qualitative, explorative, descriptive and contextual research design was employed in the main study which had a target population of professional nurses in three hospitals in which the Nursing student following a Problem-Based Learning curriculum were placed for clinical learning. The study employed purposive sampling techniques with semi-structure interviews. In this paper, two themes and six subthemes are ported as follows: 1. that there was dysfunctional collaboration between all stakeholders including facilitators and professional nurses and 2. Professional nurses had attitudes towards Problem Based Learning. Clinical placements required meticulous planning and identification of specific theoretical learning which matched the practical learning requirements pertinent to the Nursing student’ training levels. It is therefore concluded that the development of the clinical competence of Nursing student in a Problem Based Learning curriculum is dependent on stakeholder collaboration.

Abstract

Hypertension is a prevalent issue commonly encountered among the aged population, which can significantly impact their overall quality of life. Peer Group Education might be considered as a viable approach to enhancing the overall well-being and quality of life among the aged population. Peer group education refers to the systematic dissemination of education and knowledge to cohorts of individuals who perceive themselves to share commonalities in terms of age, mindset, hobbies, or other relevant attributes with their peers. The objective of this study was to examine the impact of Peer Group Education on the quality of life among elderly individuals diagnosed with hypertension. The research employed a purposive sampling technique, targeting a population of 42 individuals residing in Palebon Duduksampeyan Village. The final sample size consisted of 38 participants. The independent factors were measured using a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), whereas the dependent variable was assessed by a questionnaire on quality of life. Before peer group education, 36.8% of elderly individuals with hypertension reported a moderately bad quality of life; after peer group education, nearly 81.6% reported a reasonably excellent quality of life. These findings related to the impact of peer group education on the quality of life of elderly people with hypertension. The Wilcoxon ranks test was utilized to assess the impact of peer group education on the quality of life among senior individuals with hypertension. The resultant p-value was 0.008, with a significance level (α) of 0.05. The quality of life of older individuals residing in Palebon Village, Ponkesdes, is impacted by the presence of hypertension.

Abstract

Operating room nurses are at risk of burnout. They face many stressors, such as the workload that must be finished. Using coping strategies that are adaptive to the situation will allow nurses to cope with their stressors. This research aimed to determine the correlation between workload and coping strategies with burnout syndrome in operating room nurses. The method used correlational research with cross-sectional approach. The population in this study was operating room nurses at Karsa Husada Batu Hospital. The number of samples was 26 nurses based on the total sampling technique. The data was collected from the workload questionnaire, ways of coping questionnaire, and Maslach burnout inventory. The data was analyzed using Spearman rank correlation test. The univariate analysis results showed that most of the respondents had a light workload, 16 people (61.5%), the most of respondents used problem-focus coping, 17 people (65.4%), and most respondents experienced low burnout syndrome, 16 people (61.5%). The bivariate analysis showed that workload had a correlation with burnout syndrome (p = 0.000) and coping strategies had a correlation with burnout syndrome (p = 0.032). A light workload and the use of problem-focused coping will reduce work stress experienced by nurses so that the development of burnout does not occur

Abstract

Speech delay is a condition where a child's speech and language development are significantly below the milestones of other children at the same age. The delay in school aged children will impact the child's enrollment in school. The purpose of this study was to describe stimulation, detection, and intervention in children with speech delay. The research used a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research population consisted of 97 children with speech delay. The inclusion criteria were children aged 2-3 years old, willingness to participate as respondents and presence during the research. The exclusion criteria were children with hearing loss, autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and chromosome abnormalities. The sample was chosen by using purposive sampling technique. The subject was a child aged 32 months old. The data was collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the child is classified as a functional speech delay caused by lack of stimulation. The child was first identified by parents having speech problems at the age of 18 months. Intervention was done through speech therapy. It is recommended that parents can stimulate and monitor children's development especially at the age of 0-2 years to avoid developmental problems, especially speech delay

Abstract

Low Birth Weight (LBW) infants is the highest cause of neonatal death in Indonesia. LBW deaths are related to the baby's outcome which worsens his condition. LBW is grouped based on birth weight into LBW (1500-2499 grams), VLBW (1000-1499 grams), ELBW (<1000 grams), and each group shows a different neonatal outcome. This study aims to look at the profile of the group of low birth weight babies who are hospitalized at RSUP Dr.M.Djamil Padang. This research was a descriptive study by collecting medical record data from January 2018-December 2020. The data collection used total sampling 181 patients which were obtained and analyzed univariately. The results showed that out of 181 babies, 39.8% LBW, 37% VLBW, and 23.2% ELBW were found. Preterm gestational age is mostly in LBW (38.5%). Appropriate for Gestational Age (AGA) condition were mostly in VLBW (43.2%). APGAR scores at the 5th minute were normal mostly in LBW (48.3%). The most common comorbidity in LBW was hyperbilirubinemia (44.2%), in VLBW it was respiratory distress syndrome (45.1%), and in ELBW it was asphyxia (57.7%). Most NICU care was for VLBW (41.9%). Maternal breast milk combined with formula milk is the most common for LBW (49.3%). Most of the length of stay was 8-28 days for LBW (53.3%). Discharge from the hospital with a doctor's permission was mostly found in LBW (57.1%). Low birth weight babies were dominated by preterm gestational age, born at AGA, normal 5th minute APGAR score, had comorbid hyperbilirubinemia, received NICU care, received breastfeeding nutrition, had length of stay for 8-28 days, and discharged from the hospital with a doctor's permission.

Abstract

Premature Rupture of Membranes (PROM) is a condition where the amniotic membranes rupture before delivery. Under normal circumstances 8-10% of preterm pregnant women will experience PROM. One of the contributors to AKI is the incidence of infection where this infection is caused by PROM. Term pregnant women under normal circumstances 8 – 10% will experience PROM. Preterm PROM occurs in 1% of pregnancies. PROM is more common in multiparous and grand multiparas due to excessive uterine motility, reduced cervical flexibility. The aim of the research was to determine the correlation between parity and the incidence of premature rupture of membranes at UMMI Hospital, Bogor City in 2023. This research used a cross sectional correlation design with medical record data as the data source. The samples were all mothers who gave birth with premature rupture of membranes. The measurement results were analyzed using the Chi Square test. The Chi square statistical test shows a value of p = 0.018 (p < 0.05), so Ha is accepted or Ho is rejected. There was a correlation between parity and the incidence of premature rupture of membranes. Further research can elaborate the trigger variables occurrence of PROM. This data can be used as primary data to obtain more results complete, accurate and valid.
