Abstract

ABSTRACT.  Effect of substitution of feather meal by rise bran on body weight gains, feed consumption, and feed efficiency of the Aceh bullocks. The experiment was conducted at Lambaro Angan Kecamatan Darussalam. Four Aceh bullocks, 12 – 14 months old, with 140 – 160 kg weight were used as experiment materials. Experimental design of latin Square (4 x 4) with the treatments of 0 percent, 1 percent, 2 percent, 3 percent of feather meal were applied. The result showed that the feed consumption has no significant different (P 0.05), but the body weight gains, and feed efficiency were highly significant different (P 0.01). The used of 3 percent (0.6 kg) feather meal in the ration has increased body weight gains and feed efficiency more than other treatments.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. A study on source and quality of feed and production of Etawah goats was conducted from June to November, 1997. Nine respondents who raise Peranakan Etawah goats were interviewed. The goats were investigated and measured for body size. The respondents were live in three different villages, i.e, three from Ule Lheu, one from Lambung, two from Punge, one from Peulanggahan and two from Rukoh. The result showed that source of fed were obtained from grass in the back yart, native pasture, by product of banana, fruits, vegetables and palatable leaves. The quality of feed was relatively good due a relatively high content of protein. Ratio of male tp female was 1 : 1.65. Kid production was about 190 percent / yard. Body size were better than kids that are raised in villages in Aceh Barat regency.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. The efficacy and effective dose of bettlenut (Areca catechu) powder against gastrointestinal nematode worms was studied. Twenty five local goats at the age of 1 – 1.5 years of age weighing 8 to 12 kg were used in this study. All goat were naturally infected with gastrointestinal nematodes and they all had fecal egg count 3000/gram. The goats were randomly divided into 5 group: group I as a non treated control and group I, II, III, IV, and V were given bettlenut powder 5 gram, 10, 15 and 20 gram, respectively. The nematode worm were identified and grouped into family of Trichostrongylidae (Trichostrongylus sp. and Haemonchus sp.) and strongylidae (Bunostomum sp., Oesophagostomum sp. and Strongylus sp.).  in general, bettlenut powder in all doses is very effective against gastrointestinal nematode worms from both families compare to control group (P   0.01) and no significant different among administered doses (P  0.05). Bettlenut powder in all doses given is vey effective (P 0.01) against Trichostrongylus sp. and Haemonchus sp. from family of Trichostrongylidae. Bettlenut powder in all doses given is also very effective (P 0.01) against Bunostomum sp., Oesophagustomum sp. and effective (P 0.05) against Strongylus sp. from family of Strongylidae. The dose of 5 gram of bettlenut powder per goat is recommended for treating goat invested with gastrointestinal nematode worms because it is saver and can be given more than once.

Abstract

ABSTRACT.The main purpose of the research was to determain the blood value of fascioliasis on blood of the cattle slaughtered in abattoir. It has been examined fifty samples of fecal, bile fluids and blood of the cattle slaughtered at the Banda Aceh abattoir. The samples were examined for the values of hematocrit, erythrocyte and leucocyte differentiation and the presence of helminth eggs respectively. It was found that the egg count variet from 7.168 ± 0.225 trematode eggs in fecal samples and 14.554 ± 2.154 trematode eggs in bile duct repectively. The result of this study showed that, the prevalence rate of fascioliasis in cattle categorical a mild infestation was 44 %. Both in the length and width of body size of the flukes are affected by the life stage. The size of adult fluke was about 34.649 ± 8.992 mm x 12.030 ± 3.494 mm, while that of young fluke was 1.650 ± 0.240 mm x 1.487 ± 0.227 mm. the blood indices of affected cattle indicated significant (P 0.05) decrease in hematocrit and erythrocyte count compared with those not affected by the disease. The mean count of hematocrit and erythrocyte 29.773%  ± 3.366% and 547.337 x 104  ± 13.599 in cattle infected and in cattle non infected was 32.357 ± 2.818 and 566.457 x 104  ± 12.886 respectively. The result of this study, also significant (P 0.05) in increasing of the eosinophilia 16.22%  ± 4.03% compared with that non-affected ones (10.54 ± 4.56).

Abstract

ABSTRACT. Studies on response of broiler to utilization of cassava meal as substitute for cron diet were conducted using seventy two unsexed hubbard strain broiler chiks. A completely randomized design, with four treatment and six replicates was used and this study. Four treatment consisting of cassava meal were supplemented in each ration at graded level of 0%, 10 %, 20%, and 30%. Each treatment contains 22.5% protein and 3000 cal/kg ration metabolized energy. The result showed there were no significant effects of the four level of cassava meal on body weight, feed consumption, feed conservasion, percentage of abdominal fat. The average body weight for each treatment was 1508.91,1454.99,1417.31 and 1401.95 gram, respectively. Feed conservation was 1.72, 1.72, 1.72 and 1.74 gram, respectively. Percentage of abdominal fat was 2.64, 2.87, 3.11 and 3.14%, respectively. There was a tendency that the increasing level of cassava meal in ration will decresease body weight and feed consumtion. It could be concluded that utilization of cassava meal up to 30% to substitutebcorn in the ration might recommended.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. Asam sunti is a popular traditional product commonly used as a condiment in Aceh. It is a fermented and popular product, wich has an important economic role in Aceh rural community. However, this traditional dried condiment is mostly poor in appearance, calour and keeping qualities. The research is aimed to study curing, drying and fermentation processes for improvement of quality and shelf life of the product. The result indicated that curing by salting prior drying was better than traditional curing by salting after drying. Likewise mechanical drying was also better than traditional sun drying. Both better processes could improve calour, lower mouisture content, lessen sournes and improve shelf life. The chemical composition of the fresh fruits with pH at 2.44 and mouisture content 70.16% in asam sunti with PH at 1.72. Bacterial plate count of the treated as well as the traditional product (as control) revealed very stable product and no bacterial content, wich account of very low PH (1.7) and water activity (0.70 – 087) condition for bacterial growth.
