Abstract

AbstractMoral value education is both a demand and a need for human beings as amanifestation of togetherness in terms of nations and countries with a variety ofproblems. There are a lot of problems, such as global terrorism andmultidimensional crises, which one country cannot solve on its own because to doso it needs other countries supports. Moral value education is an alternativeproblem solution which is local, regional, national, and international in nature. Ithas become a global issue in several countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, India, andChina) and it has some differences and similarities. The differences result from thecountries different ideologies. However, such countries emphasize moral valueeducation on moral ethic values, especially on values related to human rights thatare universal and global in nature. The concept of moral value education proposedby Kohlberg and Miller tends to be individualistic. Therefore, its needs to becomplemented by taking account of the paradigm proposed by Capra that humanlife is built on the basis of a systemic and holistic view of life, one which is notpartial and individualistic. In its implementation, it needs an appropriate approachand a relevant method and technique. The approaches to moral value educationinclude inculcating, modelling, facilitating, and skill development approaches, andthe methods include dogmatic, deductive, inductive, and reflective methods. Keywords: moral value education, global perspective

Abstract

AbstractThis study described the consultation opportunity, consultation materials, reasons, academic advisors (AAs) responses, students responses, and effects ofAAs guidance on students achievement. The research subjects comprised studentsof the Faculty of Languages and Arts, the Yogyakarta State University, consistingof two groups, namely those who were interviewed (selected by the snow balltechnique) and those who were given an open questionnaire (selected by thestratified random technique). The data were analyzed using the qualitativedescriptive technique. The data credibility was enhanced by the participationlengthening, interview details, triangulation, and peer checking. The results wereas follows. (1) In general, the students consulted with their AAs during theconsultation period. (2) On the average, the consultation frequency was once ortwice a semester. (3) They consulted with not only their AAs but also otherlecturers. (4) They consulted with their AAs when they needed their AAs and theAAs responded to them; they consulted with other lecturers when they found itdifficult to see their AAs, they felt scared and hesitant, and the AAs did notrespond to them. (5) Most consultation materials were academic in nature. (6) MostAAs gave the students positive responses and only few AAs were not responsiveor indifferent. (7) Most of the AAs suggestions were positive and only few wereuseless and irrelevant. (8) The students suggested that AAs should be easy to see, have schedules, and conduct the consultation not in public. (9) Constraints in theconsultation included the difficulty to see AAs because they were busy, therelationship which was not close, the students who were not open, shy, scared andhesitant to see their AAs, and the large number of students. (10) Most studentsrealized the contribution of the consultation with their AAs to their achievement. Keywords: Academic Advisor, academic consultation

Abstract

AbstractThis study aimed to find out the gene inheritance pattern of the gembel hair in afamily in Solomerto Village, Solomerto District, Wonosobo Regency, to design alocal phenomenon based module for genetics learning, and to investigate thereadability of the learning module. This study was based on the data of the familytree map of a family with the gembel hair inheritance that could be traced to threegenerations so that this fulfilled the requirements to trace the gene inheritance. Thedata on the gembel hair inheritance were collected through observations andinterviews. The data were then analyzed to find out the characteristic inheritanceby making a map of the family tree and determining the genotype possibility ofeach family member. To investigate the readability of the module, 20 students ofSMA Negeri 8 Yogyakarta were selected as the sample. The data were analyzedusing the qualitative descriptive technique. The results of the study on the basis ofthe family tree map showed that the gembel hair gene inheritance was determinedby the recessive autosomal gene. The students gave positive responses to the localphenomenon based learning module in terms of the material coverage, the materialexplanation, the number of test items, the item difficulty level, the instruction, andthe key answers. Keywords: genetics, local phenomenon, learning module, gembel hair

Abstract

AbstractThis study aimed to: (1) investigate the readiness of Vocational High School(VHS) students, the schools, and the industry to implement the industrialpracticum, (2) describe the implementation of the industrial practicum, and (3)describe the result of the industrial practicum implementation. This study was anevaluation research study using the Countenance Model. The research populationcomprised all teachers and principals of VHSs, all the industrial practicuminstructors, and all Year III VHS students of the building engineering expertiseprogram in Makassar City. The sample was selected using the proportionatestratified random sampling technique. The results showed that VHS students wereready to carry out the industrial practicum. This was supported by theirknowledge, basic skills and ability and socialization by the schools. VHSs wereready to implement the industrial practicum. Large- and middle-scale industrieswere ready to implement the industrial practicum. However, only 75% of smallscaleindustries were ready to do so. Cooperation between industries, especiallysmall ones, and vocational schools was less satisfactory. A few middle- and largescaleindustries, on the other hand, were quite good. The students activities in theindustrial practicum ran well because they were supported by their ability to adaptthemselves with the industrial environment. Their basic practical skills were poor. The teachers were also good, indicated by the intensity of their visits to theindustries during the industrial practicum. Such visits improved the studentsmotivation and supported them. The instructors also performed the activities well, especially in guiding the students during the industrial practicum. The instructorscontinuously provided guidance to the students before accomplishing assignmentsand checked the results. The final assessment by the instructors included studentsattendance, discipline, motivation, work quality, initiative, creativity, attitudes, andperformance. In the final achievement, most students were in the very satisfactorycategory and only a few were in the moderate category. Keywords: program evaluation, industrial practicum

Abstract

AbstractIn his two novels, Angels Demons and The Da Vinci Code, Dan Browndescribes the clash of the Illuminati Order and Priory of Sion against the VaticanChurch. These secret societal groups are described as secret groups having thecommon roots and both are presented in the two novels although they are not themain theme. However, these two secret groups have the common relation to thestarting point of the development of religions in Europe. These groups are theagents of the emergence of residual paganism through Kabbalah and Old Egyptoccultism in Europe recently. They are known as Freemason, their ideology focuseson materialism and secular humanism, and atheism becomes their important faith.Although only fictional works, Browns two novels have taken part in thecontestation of religiosity struggle in Europe as a discourse. Keywords: religiosity struggle, Vatican Church, paganism, atheism

Abstract

AbstractPoverty eradication is one indicator of the success of the development attempts.Poverty is a complex and multidimensional problem. Attempts to eradicatepoverty that have been made so far are not successful because they focus only oneconomic aspects, not on empowerment and involvement of the local people byestablishing local societal institutions. Autonomous PNPM is a program toeradicate poverty that is based on empowerment through learning by (1) creatingan atmosphere accommodating values of universal humanitarianism, societalprinciples and sustainable development (2) strengthening local societal institutions,(3) strengthening potentials through funding, training, and environmentaldevelopment, and (4) protecting the certainty of the programs for the poor. Keywords: poverty, empowerment, autonomous PNPM
