Abstract

As the energy consumption continues to increase, pollutants and greenhousegases emissions from the energy utilization also increases. The increase ofthose emissions has impacts on environmental problems that harmful for theecosystem and the population. Program action needed to reduce the energyconsumption. Improving the efficiency of energy use is the most effective wayto address simultaneously several national issues. It is not only can reduce theenergy consumption, but also it can reduce the pollutant and greenhouse gasesemissions. The program also can strengthen the national energy security. Theenergy efficiency program has been implemented in some countries, but Japan isthe most advance country on energy efficiency

Abstract

Indonesia as the biggest geothermal potential country in the world. There are252 geothermal locations have been identified that distributed along a volcanicbelt extending from Sumatera, Java, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi, Maluku untilPapua. Utilization of this energy be side for electrical power generation, it is usedfor non electrical (direct uses) as well. In the agriculture area with high rainfall, drying process can decrease quality of crop products. The tools doesn’t produceemission and doesn’t make noises and also as clean energy. By optimization theutilization of geothermal energy that available surrounding the agriculture areacould increase the local people economic.

Abstract

The role of the wild plants in relation to the conservation of the Indonesian insectpollinators was studied at several areas of Java. Three of direct observationmethods were applied: study of biodiversity and observation on the wild flowersand the insect pollinators as well, and the behaviour of the insects. The flowersof wild plants were relatively smaller and paler in colour, however they were moreattractive to insect pollinators than cultivated plants. Flowering time of the wildplants was mostly during wet seasons, contrary to that of the cultivated plantswhich was mostly during dry seasons. Our observation indicated that these wildplants are the food resources of insect pollinators during wet seasons. Observationdata support the importance of wild plants to supply food to insect pollinatorsduring wet seasons. Management of wild and cultivated plant environments isnecessary to conserve insect pollinators.

Abstract

Artificial (electric) and direct lighting technologies available today have thepotential to greatly reduce the growth rate of electricity consumed through lightingworldwide. While electric lighting has been inefficient throughout much of itshistory, direct (natural) lighting is nearly free and often plentifully supplied by thesun. However, electric lighting systems are necessary when solar lighting is notadequate and these technologies are being greatly improved. One relatively new method of lighting a building’s interior combines both artificialand direct lighting to maximize efficiency is accomplished through the use of aparaboloidal, mirrored dish which actively tracks the sun to concentrate sunlightinto an array of fiber optics.

Abstract

Fire wood is become one of the alternatif fuel to replace kerosene and gas. Becauseof the government regulation that replace kerosene into elpiji gas, many local peoplebecome prefer using fire wood for their cooking, although it cause air pollution.Twenty six plant species have been recorded as fire wood in Lampeapi, WawoniiIsland, S.E. Sulawesi. Those species collected from the beach and also hill forest.

Abstract

Dyera costulata, usually called as jelutung is belonging into Apocynaceae family. This plant is a potential plant species that has good prospect, especially for timberand latex production. However the seedling grows slowly. The experiment wascarried out in greenhouse, Treub Laboratory, Botani Division, Centre Research forBiology-LIPI, Bogor, using a Factorial Completely Randomized Design with treemain factors in five replications. The first factor is phase of transplant i.e. seedlingwith closed cotyledon, seedling with opened cotyledon, seedling with two firstleaves. The second factor is growth medias i.e. soil, soil+compost (1:1), soil+huskof rice (1:1), soil+compost+ soil+husk of rice (1:1:1), compost+ soil+husk of rice(1:1). The third factor is mycorrhiza i.e. 0, 2, 4 and 6 g/pot The result showed thatthe transplant phase had significant effect on the seedling growth. The best oftransplant phase is seedling with two leaves which has 100% survival, seedlingheight 8.57 cm and number of leaves 5.07 . Mycorrhiza treatment no significanteffect on the seedling growth until 5 months after planting. Growth medias hadsignificant effect at number of leaves. Therefore it is recommended the best mediafor seedling growth are are of soil+ soil+husk of rice (1:1) , or soil+compost + huskof rice = 1:1:1. There was no interaction effect of transplant phase, mycorrhizaand growth media.

Abstract

Decreasing of land for agriculture pushed the exploiting of agricultural and industrialby-products for feedstuffs. Rice straw and “onggok” represent the by-products thatvery potential to use for feedstuffs. However these by-products have low digestionvalue for livestock. Therefore processing of the by-products before use is essensialto increase its quality. The experiment was conducted for 7 weeks to investigatethe effects of feeding diets containing rumen liquor treated-rice straw or rumenliquor treated-onggok on the performance of local male sheeps. Parametersmeasured were feed intake (g/head/day), weight gain (g/head/day), and feedconversion. Data from randomized complete block design were analized usingANOVA and if its showed significantly different contras ortogonal test was used. The result showed that the treatments significantly (P<0,05) affected feed intake, weight gain, and feed conversion. R2 and R3 treatments significantly (P<0,01)increased feed intake compared with R4 and R1 treatment, while between R2 andR3 treatments, and R1 and R4 treatments were not different. It can be concludedthat treament of rumen liquor to rice straw could improve its nutritive quality whichwas proved by good performance of sheeps fed diets containing rumen liquortreated rice straw.
