Abstract

ABSTRACTThe echo sounding measurement is a method that can be used to know thechange of dam volume directly on the field. This research aims to: (1) know therest of the economic age of the Panglima Besar Jendral Sudirman (PBJS) Dambased on measurement and calculation the echo sounding data, and (2)give more detail view of the changes of the PBJS Dam condition viewed fromsedimentation problem. The research activities were conducted in the PBJS Dam located onKabupaten Banjarnegara, Jawa Tengah. The research utilized secondary datacollected using documentation technique, consists of: (1) sediment volume/year,(2) dam effective volume, (3) dam volume, and total sediment volume year/year. The data were the best mathematic curve interpretationsupported by the Microsoft Excel software. The mathematic curve is indicatedby the variance value coefficient (R) value fromthe various existing trend curve alternatives. The research results show that based on various mathematic curves beingused, since 1999 the rest of operation age of the PBJS Dam lies between 17.37to 20.71 years. This conclusion is a simple prediction without considering thefuture erosion control changes. The rest of the dam age assumps thatthe natural condition especially the sedimentation rate occuring in the dam doesnot change significantly compared to what happened on the previous years andit is not affected by the existing sand mining on the upstream of the dam. Keywords: dam age, echo sounding

Abstract

ABSTRACTLightweight concrete offers some advantages in reinforced concreteconstruction. It can be produced by replacing the normal aggregate (sand andgravel) with lightweight aggregate, either partially or fully, depending upon therequirements of density and strength. The present study covers the use ofexpanded polystyrene as fine lightweight aggregate in order to produce structurallightweight aggregate. These mixes were designed by using several variances of polystyrenevolume percentage by total fine aggregate. The substitution was done with 0%,25%, 500/0, 750/0 and 1000/0 by total volume of fine aggregate, with 0,50 watercement ratio. The Properties of hardened concrete namely compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and flexural strength were tested in 28 days of curingperiod. It is observed that polystyrene lightweight concrete has sufficient strengthto be accepted as structural lightweight concrete in 25~'O substitution by totalvolume of fine aggregate, with 17,35 MPa of compressive strength, but thecompressive strength will always decrease depending on the increasing ofpolystyrene percentage. The splitting tensile strength of polystyrene lightweightaggregate approximately 14%--18% of its compressive strength, for the normalconcrete it is nearly 10% of 28 days compressive strength. The flexural strengthwas ranging between 20%-30% of its compressive strength, higher than normalconcrete that nearly 15% of its compressive strength. Keywords: lightweight concrete, mechanical properties, polystyrene

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research aims to reveal how the forming process of Pringgondanikampong, Catur Tunggal, Depok, Sleman, Jogjakarta province. The Pringgondanikampong is a densely populated kampong in the Gajah Wong's river bank thatcan be categorize as an urban viilage or city's kampong. The forming process ofthis area is attractive object to be researched, because of the status of this landas tanah kas desa (the property of village administration) borrowed as the rightsof rented farming land. In other side, this research aims to explore the drivenfactors that influencing the inhabitation process that forming this settlement. The fenomenological method was used as method of research. Thismethods require unseperation between researcher and object of research. Theobject of research is observed without separation of it context. The informationhad been collected from the trusted informan then it was conformed to user orresponder. The trusted informan are old people or the people who settle in thiskampong erlier so their knowledge about kampong are assumed much morethen the others. Trusted informan and responder is elected by purposive manner. The instruments of research are log book, pen, survey map and researcher. This research reveal the process of settlement in this Pringgondani kampongthat can be seen by two sight: the first as a process of exchange of rented landright and the second as a process of attending of inhabitant. The factorsinfluencing process of inhabitation are: status of land, unproductive land condition, recognition of village administration about this functional area as settlement, demand of rented room, and self-improvement of inhabitant. Keywords: process of inhabitation, rented land right, urban village

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe main obstacle in building a construction in soft soil is the big settlementwhich occurs in such soil. One of the techniques to solve this problem is tohamper geosynthetics on this soft soil and create a compacted embankmentfrom good soil above the soft soil. The application of this technique is quiteeffective, but due to economic problem and environmental awareness, the useof another material which is cheaper and comes from nature is in urgent need.In the past our ancestors have used bamboo as soil reinforcement. Unfortunatelythe publications and researches concerning this matter are still very few. This study is aimed to investigate the tensile strength of woven bambooand its potential application for soil reinforcement in an embankment. Threevariants of bamboos are used in the experiment. The samples are taken fromthe outer parts (skin) and inner parts, with and without nodes. The shape anddimension of the samples are designed to represent the actual shape anddimension of woven bamboo. From the experiment, the maximum tensile strength obtained from tensilestrength and strain analysis is 395.533 kN/m'. The outer part of bamboo iscategorized as brittle material while the inner part is ductile. Based on thesefindings and considering bamboo's rough surface and its lifetime, bamboo ispotential for soil reinforcement in an embankment to replace a particular functionof geosynthetics. Keywords: bamboo, soil reinforcement, embankment
