Abstract

This research purposes to find out the characteristic of slow pyrolysis of palm kernel shell and plastic derived from waste grocery bags mixtures with the catalyst addition. Palm kernel shell was mixed with plastic in the persentages of 0%, 10%, 20% dan 30%. The mixtures of palm kernel shell and plastic were feeded in the fixedbed pyrolyzer with the natural zeolite as catalyst. Pyrolyzer was heated and controlled in the temperature of 400oC, 450oC and 500oC. Vapor produced by pyrolysis process was condensed by seperated water cooling. Liquid condensation was collected and measured its weight then analyzed by using GCMS to determain the composition of bio-oil formed from this processes. The research results that the higher temperature pyrolyzer the higher conversion of palm kernel shell and plastic mixtures is by reducing char product. The addition of natural zeolit as catalyst affects in the increase of phenol, alkane and alkene compounds with the reduction of acid compounds.

Abstract

Membrane made of chitosan from shrimp shell can be used to reducea heavy metal chromium (Cr) content in leathertanning industry waste by adsorption. The membranes were manufactured from chitosan with concentrations of 2, 3, and 4wt%, respectively. In addition, glycerol was added during membrane manufacturing as an additive to increase the permeability properties. The results showed that themembrane with 2% chitosan without glycerol gave the best adsorption performance. However, increased the chitosan concentration showed a negative effect to the membrane performance in adsorbing the chromium due to chitosan solubility limitation in the acetic acid. However, the use of glycerol did not improve the adsorption performance. This was due to hydrophilic property of the glycerol.

Abstract

The utilization of renewable energy at a low wind speed area (namely 2 m /s until 8 m / s) like Indonesia is still rarely performed due to it is low efficiency. This research is intended to know the performance of horizontal axis wind turbine propeller type 5-bladed, using airfoil AH79-100C type with 1,1 m it is diameter. It is expected which the parameters and characteristics of the blade can be used as reference to create a small-scale wind turbine. The results showed that the value of the power coefficient (Cp) is best obtained at a speed of 6 m / s with a value of 44,26%, while for the smallest power coefficient values obtained at wind speed of 17 m / s amounted to 16,76%. This wind turbine are most suitable for use at wind speeds ranging from 6 m / s to 12 m / s.

Abstract

This paper aims to investigate the magnitude of minimum blank holder gap to prevent wrinkles and cracks defects of the rectangular cup with T4 material Tin Plate CA. Punch-die domensions are determined based on the standard tool designed. The methods of this research are an analytic, finite element (FE), and experimental approach, respectively. Each method in this study had been mutually compared to other methods. According to the research, minimum blank holder gap is recommended by 120% to 130% of the thickness of the initial material (about 0.24 ÷ 0.26 mm). By using the value of this gap, the height of wrinkles is very small, and the magnitude of the drawing force is still below the critical limit, so the product does not occur wrinkles and cracks.

Abstract

The bio-oil production from baggase using pyrolysis process was investigated in this study. A fixed bed reactor was utilized to investigate the effect of pyrolysis temperature and biomass particle size on the yield of bio-oil, tar, biochar and gas and properties of bio-oil. The pyrolysis temperature was ranging from 450 to 550oC, while variations of particle size were -20+30 Mesh and -30+40 Mesh. The operation conditions of the pyrolysis were 15 minutes of resident time, 25oC/minute of heating ramp and 0.5 L/min of N2 flowrate.  Optimum conditions obtained for the maximum bio-oil yield (28.11 %wt) were 550oC and -30+40 Mesh of particle size. However, pyrolysis for -20+30 Mesh of biomass particle size had optimum temperature on 500oC which had 27.89%wt of bio-oil yield. On the other hand, all bio-oils were characterized in detail by determining their density, viscosity, pH, acetic acid content and heating value. Bio-oils produced have the following properties: density of 1.0667-1.0867 gr/ml, viscosity of 1.3034-1.7821 cP,  pH of 2.3835-2.7865, acetic acid content of 0.4320-0.5600 mg/ml bio-oil, dan heating value of  9.3168-10.8173 MJ/kg. The highest heating value is contented by bio-oil produced with 550oC of temperature pyrolysis and -30+40 Mesh of biomass particle size.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the characteristic of slow pyrolysis of coal and plastic mixtures involving natural zeolite as catalyst. Coal was screened in the mesh size of -6 +8 and plastic collected from waste grocery bags were cut in small sizes. Coal and plastic were mixed together in the percentages of 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% of plastic. Coal and plastic mixtures were feeded in the fixedbed pyrolyzer with natural zeolite addition then heated until desired temperature (400oC, 450oC and 500oC) in absence oxygen. The pyrolysis vapor produced from heating was condensed by separated water cooling. The condensation liquid formed was collected and analyzed using GCMS to determain the composition of liquid fraction. This reseach results that the higher temperature pyrolyzer the higher conversion of coal and plastic mixtures is by reducing char product. In addition, by the plastic added in the coal pyrolysis enriches alkane compounds and reduces percentages of PAH compounds. The natural zeolit addition affects in the increase of percentage of alcohol compounds with the alkene compounds reduction

Abstract

All of the production activity   in a company cannot be separated with the material handling activity. There are a lot of companies that still use the traditional work system in the material handling activity, namely manual material handling systems. CV. Graffity Labelindo is one of company which conducts material handling mostly using human power, especially the material handling activities done by the lamination machine operators. This activities lifting materials about 6-15 kg from the bottom (floor) into the top, makes workers have to bent  to lift the materials, and then carry the materials by hand while moving about 20-24 meters.. Based on the results of questionnaires Nordic Body Map the biggest complaint that perceived lamination machine operator found on the neck, arms, thighs, waist, and back. The methods used in this research is OWAS  (Ovako Working  Analysis System). According to the data processing, the result shows that almost all the material handling activity done by the lamination machine is included in the risk category 3 (three) which is positions with harmful effects on the musculoskeletal system (high risk) an require the corrective action. The corrective action done to reduce or prevent risks of musculoskeletal disorders on the operator lamination machine is designing work facilities and improvements to the working methods. The results of the improvements can lower risk category operators lamination machine into risk category 1 (one) as to its normal position without any effects that can interfere with the musculoskeletal system (low risk).

Abstract

The manufacturing industry has been growing rapidly at this time, it can be seen from the number of manufacturing companies that have emerged and growing. Obstacles often occur over production activity in a manufacturing company is a long setup times and product quality in production activities which will indirectly affect the output product to be produced. The longer of the setup activities will result in the output of products which are getting smaller. Improved product quality and minimize setup time can be done either by the use of tools manufacturing which is often known as jigs and fixtures. This paper will discuss the design of jig and fixture for manufacture products cover on-off. Jigs and fixtures are designed to be used for the process drilling for three holes. Jig and Fixture design results can provide a reduction in total time of manufacture of the product, product quality improvements, increased productivity and cost saving product manufacture for products cover on-off.
