Abstract

To improve the logical thinking ability of Papuan students, this research was conducted. The material subject of this research is how to solve the wide of the area under the normal curve.  The subject of the research is Papuan students in Class of Statistika Dasar in Mathematics Education major in STKIP Surya Tangerang 2016/2017 academic year. The methods of this research are Qualitative. Data had collected with Test and interview and to data analysis was using Descriptive Qualitative. The design of this research used Action Research.  The result showed that 1) Students with the high math problem-solving skill the area under the normal curve have been able to think coherently, as well as could completion of the work in consecutively and correctly. 2) Students with the math problem-solving ability, have been able to think coherently already did the problem in order, but still make errors in final calculation, because careless. 3) Students with low ability in math problem solving, have been able to think coherently already do the problem in order, but there was still a lot of mistake calculations in basic calculations like a division of integer, and as well as the final calculations. Kata Kunci: action, logical, thinking, curve, normal

Abstract

This research aims to produce and see the effectiveness of interconnection-based mathematics-based teaching materials to facilitate the reasoning and problem-solving skills of high school students. The method used is research model development Borg & Gall with three phases: an introduction that includes literature review and analysis of student characteristics, stage of development which include determining the basic competencies and indicators, the analysis of the materials, writing materials, and instruments, and the stage of validation includes expert validation, revision I, small group trial, analysis of the trial results, revision II, and packaging the final product. The research result is drafting a set of mathematics teaching materials based integration-interconnection effective to facilitate reasoning, and problem-solving abilities of high school students worthy with the results of the assessment of Very Good is 157.5 of the maximum score 172 or percentage 91.2% and posttest result of average mathematical reasoning 77.21 and average problem-solving ability 76.01. Also of the test is found that teaching materials can be used well in learning with positive impact. Keywords: mathematics teaching materials, interconnect integration, reasoning, problem-solving

Abstract

This research aims to obtain information about the use of props model of bands of numbers in improving mathematics learning outcomes about the operation of arithmetic numbers in class V students I SD Negeri 4 Giriwoyo academic year 2017/2018.This research was conducted at SD Negeri 4 Giriwoyo UPT Education District Giriwoyo Wonogiri Regency, September to October 2017. The research method used is classroom action research with two learning improvement cycles. The object of this research is the students of grade V of SD Negeri 4 Giriwoyo, amounting to 14 students with details of 9 male students and five female students. Instruments for collecting data are student observation sheets in the learning process, teacher observation sheets in the learning process, and test of learning outcomes.The result of the research shows that there is an increase in learning result from initial condition 60,35 to 77,50 in cycle II (final condition). In addition, the number of students who reached the minimum criteria of completeness was increased from 3 students at the initial condition of 12 students on the final conditions. From the results of the above research can be stated that the use of model props can improve the results of mathematics learning about integer counting operations in Grade V students of first semester SD Negeri 4 Giriwoyo.Keywords: Operation Count, Number Band

Abstract

This research is motivated by the results of previous research which shows that students' mathematical communication ability is still not as expected. The focus of this research is to determine the improvement of students' mathematical communication ability as a result of the investigation of the Alberta model learning. This research is experimental research with the population of all students of one of the State Junior High School in Bandung. The sample of the research is the grade VII students of the school. Samples were 73 students, 36 students of experimental class and 37 students of the control class. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that: (1) The achievement of mathematical communication ability of students who gain learning inquiry model Alberta better than students who learn conventional, (2) Improve the ability of mathematical communication, the thinking of students who gain learning inquiry model Alberta better than students Gain conventional learning, and (3) there is a difference in improving the ability of mathematical communication thinking based on the category of early mathematical ability.Keywords: Mathematical Communication Ability, Alberta Model Inquiry

Abstract

Mathematical communication ability is an important ability to have students. This is because by having these abilities, students can communicate ideas or mathematical ideas both orally and in writing. However, based on preliminary studies in the form of mathematical communication and class observation tests conducted by researchers in one class at SMP Negeri 8 Kota Tangerang Selatan showed that students' mathematical communication ability is still low. The efforts that can be done is to apply a model of learning that can train and cultivate students' mathematical communication ability by applying the learning cycle 5e  model. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the average of improvement mathematical communication skills of students who get a learning model learning cycle 5e higher than students who obtain conventional learning. This type of research is quasi experiment. The research design used is a nonequivalent control group design. The population in this research are the students of class VII.1, VII.2, and VII.3 SMP Negeri 8 Kota Tangerang Selatan and the sample is the students of class VII.2 as the experimental class and class VII.3 as the control class. The sampling technique used random cluster sampling. Hypothesis testing of research done by the parametric test (t-test). In this research, it can be concluded that the average improvement mathematical communication ability of students who get the learning cycle 5e model is higher than students who get conventional learning. Keywords:  Mathematical communication skill, learning cycle 5e model, quasi-experiment

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the communication skills of students of SMP Eka Sakti Semarang who have a competitive learning style. The type of research is descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques using test methods and interviews. The subjects consist of 2 grade VII students who have a competitive learning style. The data validity technique uses source triangulation. The results showed that both subjects showed the same mathematical communication ability indicators: 1) were less able to express mathematical ideas through oral, written, and demonstrated and visualized; 2) able to understand, interpret and evaluate mathematical ideas either orally, or in visual form; and 3) able to use terms - mathematical notations through oral, written, and interpreting and visualizing. These results show that they understand the problems faced but are not accustomed to writing them coherently, this is due to the aggressiveness of students with competitive learning styles more motivate them to complete the job quickly and correctly rather than following the procedure. Keywords: mathematical communication, learning style
