Abstract

This study aims to investigate the English pre-service teachers’ self-efficacy after experiencing a three-week microteaching lesson study project. There were thirty-nine pre-service teachers participated in this study. In a group of five persons, they were assigned to do three times of thirty-minutes-microteaching practices. Microteaching lesson study model was used in this research. A questionnaire and an interview were distributed after the project was completed. The questionnaire measured the students’ self-efficacy while the interview explored the student-teachers’ perceptions toward the project. Results indicated that the microteaching lesson study has a good impact on the self-efficacy of the prospective English teachers.

Abstract

Curriculum is the design to carry out a particular language program, including subject-matter objectives, sequencing and materials to meet the needs of a designated group of learners in a defined context (Brown, 2000).  The objective of this study is to depict the academic English language curriculum/syllabus of TEFL 1 subject in English Department UM Mataram. The present study analyzes the coherence, consistency, and relevance of the curriculum objectives, content, learning activities, and assessment, institution vision and mission, law, and the nature of the subject matter. Tyler’s rationale model is utilized in analyzing the documents. The result of this study can be used as some considerations in reconstructing the syllabus so that learning experiences will be relevant and consistent with the learning objectives stated in the syllabus.

Abstract

This CAR intends to improve students’ writing ability. The data were collected through questionnaire, observation, and documents. Assembling the data, coding the data, comparing the data, building meanings and interpretations, and  reporting the outcomes were the steps to analyze the data. The result showed that there was improvement on stdents’ writing ability, that was in cycle 1, the mean score was 63.28, and  70.97 in cycle 2.  The questionnaire data was also showed that 47% students strongly agreed and 33% of them agreed that Collaborative Writing Technique could encourage them to write and help them to improve their writing ability.

Abstract

Based on the results of observations made on students of class IX.2 of SMP Muhammadiyah Pringsewu, the researchers found several symptoms that lead to the weak concentration of students. This study was focus on handling students' concentration problems in learning English, especially, in writing through Project Based Learning.  It was Collaborative Action Research. The data collecting techniques used classroom observation, student reflection, and questionnaires. In analyzing the data, the researcher adopted Burns’ theory. The results showed that the use of Project Based Learning was able to improve the students’ learning concentration in writing activity.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a learning media model using the Macromedia Flash application to be used in English Phonology learning and to determine the feasibility of appropriate Macromedia Flash-based learning media to support English Phonology learning. This research is a Research and Development Research (R & D) with stages (1) Stages of Analysis, namely Identifying the objectives of Learning Media and Identifying Student Characteristics; (2) Design Stages, namely Designing learning materials and Designing learning media design using the Macromedia Flash program; (3) Production stages, namely Producing learning materials, Authoring materials, and Editing learning materials; (4) Evaluation Stages, namely Material Expert Review, Media Expert Review, and Test on students.The results show that the English Phonology learning media products have met the rules of research and development and are effectively used in the learning process for Students of the English Language Department of IAIN Metro Lampung.
