Abstract

Pain is a chief complaint most frequently seen in daily practice. Dry cupping therapy has been used for pain management but the mechanism of action is unclear. Beta endorphin is an endogenous morphin that can relief pain. The objective of this study is to show the relationship betweenβ-endorphin expression and pain relief in dry cupping. This experimental study employed randomized control group post test design. Twenty four Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) were assigned to three groups of 8 subjects, which were normal rats (control negative), group undergoing Complete Freund’s Adjuvant (CFA) only (control positive group) and group undergoing CFA and dry cupping (negative pressure: - 200 mmHg, 5 minutes). Samples were retrieved from skin and performed immunohistochemical of monoclonal anti β-endorphin. Pain threshold reaction time was measured by hot-plate. Data were then statistically analysed by Independent-Sample t Test, Linear Regresion analysis using SPSS version 17.This study found out that expression of β-endorphin, p= 0.000 and pain threshold reaction time on dry cupping, p= 0.001 had increased compared with the control group. There was relation between increased β-endorphin with pain threshold reaction time in dry cupping (β= 0.542; p= 0.030). In other words, dry cupping can decrease pain caused by the expression of β-endorphin

Abstract

In the teaching of writing, interesting media and appropriate teaching techniques are essential to help learners improve their writing ability. In relation to descriptive text, imagining someone or using pictures to describe has not given meaningful experience for students to get ideas on what to describe and how to describe well. Regarding this, many EFL students of D3 English program of Vocational Program at Brawijaya University still found it difficult to develop and organize ideas of someone’s description. Therefore, using observation realia was proposed to be used as a medium to help students solve their problems in writing a descriptive text. This Classroom Action Research on the use of observation realia was done through process-genre based approach which consisted of 4 stages: planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The result shows that the use of observation realia through process-genre based approach could improve the students’ writing ability in terms of content, organization and language use. English teachers or lecturers are suggested to use observation realia as one of interesting alternative media in teaching writing. Also, further researchers are suggested to develop the use of observation realia for students with different level of education and for different kinds of text types.

Abstract

The plentiful company inventories are associated with the high storage and order cost. However, the limited number of inventories results in the lack of supply shortages that could hamper the process of buying and selling on trading companies and loss of profits. During this time, PT. ABC has ordered fertilizer X and Z using rough estimates. Thus, the company sometimes has excessive or even limited amount of fertilizer X and Z which results in providing unsatisfactory service for the customers’ demand. This research was aimed to evaluate the inventory management of fertilizer X and Z at PT ABC using EOQ (Economic Order Quantity) method. Data collection was done through observation and interviews with the company. Data were analyzed using the EOQ method. The results showed that the inventory management by using the EOQ method is more efficient than the inventory management policy that has been done by the company. This is because by using the EOQ method the frequency of order is lower so the order cost will be low as well. Therefore, the company should consider using EOQ method because this method can help the company to get the optimal quantity of inventory purchases with a minimum order fee compared to the previous company policy.
