Abstract

Perception data of assessment of contractors’ competency is necessary to be collected from any parties who involve in construction projects in order to improve contractor selection system, not only in the stage of prequalification phase, but also in the stage of tender phase or in the stage of a selection of the winning contractor. To obtain the answer of contractors’ perception in terms of the most to the least important factors of the assessment of contractors competency, a structure questionnaire survey was conducted in Palu, where the sample came from a part of small contractors in Palu. Technical and managerial strength and compliance with regulations factors are the highest rank, while financial strength is the lowest rank. Moreover, positive correlations of the techncial and managerial strength exhibit statistically significant with other factors.

Abstract

AC Induction motors are sized for maximum load and are operated at a constant full speed, because they are supplied with power from AC lined at a fixed-sinusoidal voltage and fixed frequency. However, load of motor does not always same at many conditions but the input voltage and power of motor is fixed. Of course, it will influence the efficiency of the motor. One method to improve efficiency of the motor is varying the voltage as loaded its and called Motor Controlled. Motor Controlled is AC Drive that using SCR (Silicon Controlled Rectifier) as the output voltage controller by controlling the firing angle. By employing SCR Motor Controller that adjust the voltage of the motor offers advantageous to improve efficiency of motor and potential for significant energy savings.

Abstract

This paper is a literature study about lightweight high strength concrete by incorporating expanded polystyrene beads. Basically polystyrene is disposal material from packaging industry. However, after being processed in a special manner, polystyrene can be expanded and used as lightweight concrete making material. Therefore, the use of expanded polystyrene beads in concrete is not only beneficial for engineering studies but also provide solution for the environmental problem

Abstract

The objective of this research is to know mechanical properties of bitumen mixtures coconut charcoal powder. This research was done in Highway and transportation laboratory of Civil Department, Tadulako University. Percentage of coconut charcoal powder content based on weight of bitumen. The percentage of coconut charcoal powder in bitumen are 2%, 4%, 6% and 8% respectively and comparison with properties of bitumen without additive material. The properties of bitumen include the following: the penetration value of bitumen, the Ductility value, the softening point value, density of bitumen value, loss on heating of bitumen, flash and fire point of bitumen values.The result of this research indicates that the coconut charcoal powder in bitumen between 2% to 8% still enough for spesification except on ductility properties of bitumen values. This implies that, increment the coconut charcoal in bitumen potential influence on asphalt pavement include stiffness and brittle of mixtures.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to know the pattern damage of finger joints in bamboo laminated beams. The dimension of laminated beams were manufactured in 1200 mm length, 140 mm deep and 50 mm wide, which consisted of horizontally laminate of 5 mm in thickness. The finger joint consisted of two variations that were horizontal and vertical directions. One variation of other beam was manufactured in the form of clear straight beams as comparator parameters. The bending shear test was conducted with a three-point static bending.The result of research indicated that the joint areas, which the parameter of glue spread have to influence on the strength. Consequently, degradation of strength occurs on all of adhesive jointed beam can reach 48%, while the optimum strength of jointed beams can reach 82% of clear straight beams. This research identify that the pattern damage of laminated beams tends on a mixed mode failure between tension and compression. The strength of vertically finger joint more effective than horizontally finger joint

Abstract

Liability for construction failure is main issue in construction industry. Production process that involves many parties with various interests caused liability allocation for the construction failure to be complicated. One of cause premature failure is inappropriate between product and contract stipulation. This article aim to study in construction premature failure the study process through regulation analysis and previous research result related to cause premature failure during construction phase. The study found some problems which still require to be assured, and vital importance to be developed in UU No. 18 / 1999 about Construction Service as failure definition, period of liability, assessment criterion to failure still require to be developed to reduce assessor subjectivity, and level of compensation to the arising out costs and loss in failure case require to estimate.

Abstract

The general aim of the studi was to identify the influence of spatial and social transformation process tha had been taking place (2003) on the social prosperity of the urban fringe community. The particular aims of the study were (1) to identify the changing effects of the land function as the result of the new settlement development toward the social economic contidion of community in the urban fringe, and (2) to identify the social interaction pattern of local community.The result of the study indicated that were changing effects of the land function from cultivation land toward non-cultivation land (the harbor development) on the range of family income of the local community (social economic condition).It could be concluded that with regard to the physical change of the land, most of people who had previosly had a job in the cultivation sector moved to another job (informal sector); while the rest had never had a job. Furthermore, seen from the social economic point of view it was discovered that the research areas were expanded areas of city dwellers with their urban characteristics. factors

Abstract

This research aim to analyses how far labour capacity or performance from GT-1510 Borsig turbine in Kaltim-1 utility unit. From the analysis can such component to prediction from turbine of degradation of performance so that requaire to conducted action by turbine component replacement or treatment and also is when done by overhaul.
