Abstract

Dry and wetting cycle in tropical area are usual cycle with high intensity. Those usually affect soils to beshrinkage at drying condition. It can be determine by the decrease of soil moisture content. In other hand, swelling process will occur in wetting side that actually cause the increase of volume of soils due to watercontent. This phenomena should be can caused by several factors such as soils mineral, climate (intensity ofrain), humidity and gravitation. This study aims to explore the change of volume and shear strength of soilsdue to dry and wetting cycle.Shrinkage limits test shows that shrinkage limit of soils more than 12%, it can be conclude that the typesoils at Kalukubula regency have slightly swelling potential. At 2 days until 10 days in drying process, theshrinkage limit was 21.37% to 47.87% with soil’s volume change from 18.06% decrease to 6.06%. while inwetting process, the shrinkage limit of soils was 46.70% to 26.06% with soil’s volume change from 0.18%increase to 10.17%. Swelling test shows that the swelling potential of soils was lower that 0.5% to average(0.5%- 1.5%). Shear test results in drying condition had the value of cohesion (c) and soil friction angle (ø)higher than in wetting condition

Abstract

Several experiments have been conducted by using Fly Ash and some similar materials, such as lime, sand, gypsum, quarry dust, Fibre Glass for Bricks-making, which generally aims to get a high-strength brick, and safe for the environment. Fly Ash classified as a B-3 waste is a coal combustion residue generated from burning coal in Steam power plant. Because Fly Ash contains SiO2, Al2O3,P2O5 and Fe2O3, the levels are quite high; the nature of its cement characteristic (pozzolonic) is very good for the use of construction industry. In this paper Fal-G brick production process, uses of rap-trap bond in Fal-G brick masonry prism test study and from the economic point of view it turns out the use of hollow block Fal-G can saveconstruction costs 20 to 30 %. Observations, limitations and suggestions from the various regions have been described. Keywords: Fly ash, rattrap bond, prism test, environment, infrastructure, economy.

Abstract

Landslide is one of the most types of slope movements of soil\rock often occur in Indonesia and resulting in damages such as in agriculture land, highways, structures and even casualties. From the researches landslides often take place on the rainy season,as well as when the rain is falling or after the rain stopped. This research will be done in two phases. First phase is a numerical modeling to simulate and predict slope hidrological behavior in respon to rainfall. The rainfalls applied for modeling are high and low intensity that are £ 70  mm/hour and 20 mm/day respectively some hours until days. The rainfall modeling results is used  as the data for next phase that is slope stability analysis. Slope stability will be analiyzed at the initial condition, when raining and after the rain stopped. This research results the decreased of slope stability caused by the rain depends on the intensity and duration of the rain. The research obtains that the rain  intensity of 70 mm/hour is the most potential cause to trigg the landslide than goes of 20 mm/day, 30 mm/hour and 50 mm/hour

Abstract

Infiltration of rainfall into slope will have an effect on to condition of slope hydrology and more specifically to characteristic of slope soils, for example pore water pressure value, level of saturation, weight contents of soil, shear strength of soil. Pore water pressure value at dry soil condition or wet condition called as with pore water pressure value negatife or value suction. This suction value will tend to declines and in the end becomes equal to zero or bigger than 0 ( positive pore water pressure) in the event of change of the water content from condition unsaturated to saturated condition. Speed of value change suction becomes positive pore water pressure most influenced by rain intensity. Value suction which is quickest fastest changed at slope at foot of slope

Abstract

The DCPT penatration resistance on each type of soil has a specific characteristic. The aim of this researchis to experimentally study of DCPT penetration resistance (qc and Rf) of sand for several water content (w)and dry density( d ) variation, and comparison with the same parameter of silt. The sample of sand takenfrom Palu-1’s bridge upstream. Test result showed that the variation of “w” have no significant influencefor qc and Rf. The higher thed the higher the qc and Rf. The specific relation of qc, Rf , w and d of sandin comparison with silt by using charts are veryclear and usefull to interpret the soil type
