This study aims to describe the forms of code switching and code mixing buying and selling transaction activities in the modern market of Kuantan Bay in the Riau Province, Indonesia. In addition, this research also aims to determine the influence of the events of code switching and code mixing. The basic design of this research is descriptive qualitative. The data are the use of the language by traders and their trading partners in the modern market of Kuantan Bay when making the trading activities. The data are in the form of natural speeches. They were obtained from observations by the researchers from the buying and the selling activities. After the transaction takes place, an in-depth interview with the informant is conducted. Data collection was carried out by listening, recording, taking note, and in-depth interviews. The form of language transfer from the Malay language of Kuantan Singingi into Indonesian is the conclusion of this research. The use of the Kuantan Singingi Malay language is more dominant in the event of code switching and code mixing. The determining factors that influence the code mixing and code switching events are the habits of the speaker, speech partner, the presence of the third speaker, the specific topic and situation of conversation as well as the ability to use language which is motivated by the level of education of both by the seller and the buyer.Â Keywords: Malay, Code Mixing, Code Switching, Riau

This article aims to: 1) find the translation techniques used by translators in translating assertive speech acts in Inez product packaging, 2) finding the speech act shifts, 3) knowing the impact of translation techniques on the quality of translations. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative research method. The data source of this research is product packaging and translation. The data is in the form of informational text in the Inez packaging and translation. We found seven speech act shifts from ten data related to assertive speech acts. In addition, the translators use nine translation techniques when translating.Keywords: Translation technique, assertive, shifting, quality

Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mendeskripsikan representasi konsep karakter pemimpin dalam lirik lagu Bugis Buluâ€™ Alauna Tempe Ciptaan Abdullah Alamudin. Penelitian ini berjenis penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini bersumber dari lirik lagu Bugis Buluâ€™ Alauna Tempe. Data penelitian berupa kata-kata, frase, atau ungkapan pernyataan yang terdapat dalam lirik. Pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik baca-simak dan pencatatan serta wawancara. Data-data yang telah dikumpulkan dianalisis dengan pendekatan hermeneutika. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, representasi konsep karakter pemimpin yang terdapat dalam lagu Bugis Buluâ€™ Alauna Tempe Ciptaan Abdullah Alamudin, ditemukan tiga konsep karakter pemimpin, yaitu pemimpin berwibawa tinggi, pemimpin mengayomi sepenuh hati, dan pemimpin sebagai pemegang amanah. Ketiga konsep karakter pemimpin tersebut merupakan kunci sukses dalam menjalankan kepemimpinan.Â

METAFORA KONSEPTUAL DALAM RUBRIK TEKNOLOGI KORAN ELEKTRONIK KOMPAS Widiasri, Fathiyyah Sekar; Nur, Tajudin

This article employs a cognitive semantic analysis with the aim to describe the types of metaphors and conceptual meanings based on conceptual metaphor theory by Lakoff and Johnson (1980), and image schemes based on image scheme theory by Cruse and Croft (2004) on the electronic newspaper Kompas. Data source in this research are taken from the technology rubric of the electronic newspaper Kompas on the March 2020 edition. We use descriptive qualitative method to conduct the reseach. The result shows that there are 16 data found of conceptual metaphor, there are nine data of structural metaphor with the conceptual meaning of enemy, leader, and human; four data of orientational metaphor with the concept of meaning of space and quality, and three data of ontological metaphor with the concept of meaning of money and fame. For the image scheme, there are four types that are found, 5 data of force scheme, 6 data of existence scheme, 1 data of container scheme, and 4 data of space scheme.Â Keywords: Conceptual metaphor, cognitive semantic, technology rubric of Kompas.com

This research was aimed to describe the writing strategy of the second semester students of University Muhammadiyah of Purwokerto in the academic year 2015/2016. The method was qualitative descriptive. There were 57 students of the second semesterÂ students as the subject of the research. However, the data collection was collected through questionaire. The result was likely about the percentage from the questionaire. In preparation step, 49% respondents admitted that they use cognitive strategy, they looked for the information they wanted to write and also collected some vocabularies before writing. In the second item, there were 60% respondents who have social strategy. Therefore, if they have problem in their writing, they will ask their friends. Cognitive strategy is also used by 67% respondents, it happened when the students said that grammar was the part from their writing in which it was the most often to be corrected. Moreover, cognitive strategy again was used by 84% and 54% when they did not know about grammar and word from their writing, they would open grammar book and dictionary. The last, there were 46% respondents had cognitive and social strategy, that was about to use internet or social media as the additional source outside class.Â Â Â Keywords: writing strategy, cognitive, metacognitive, social

The purpose of this study is to describe the form of abreviation and function of the register language in the Facebook group "Buy and Sell Anything Cilegon Serang Banten". The method used in this research is qualitative method. As for the data collected through library study techniques, refer to the basic tapping techniques and advanced techniques of free and accountable, note taking, and documentation techniques. The data obtained are classified based on the form of abreviation and register language functions. Based on the results of the study found 4 forms of abreviation consisting of 1) abbreviations, 2) acronyms, 3) fragments, and 4) letter symbols. In addition, 5 language functions were found consisting of 1) instrumental functions, 2) representational functions, 3) interactional functions, 4) personal functions, and 5) heuristic functions. The results of this study can be implemented in Indonesian language learning in high school, especially in negotiating text learning.Keywords: Facebook, register, form of abreviation, language functions

The study aims at exploring functions, meaning, and pragmatic effects of co-occurrences of I mean and conjunctions in British National Corpus. The study applied some principles of a corpus study. I mean collocates with 5 conjunctions namely because, but, coz, when, and if. The collocations function to make the ideas clear in order to make the hearers understand them easily and avoid misunderstanding. They, moreover, are used when the speakers give corrections. They are uttered to emphasize arguments and give information as detailed as possible. These collocations in discourse make the hearers aware of information given and finally they pay special attention to the message.

This research describes the pragmatic meaning of verbal and nonverbal language of Sundanese people in Sindangkasih District, Ciamis Regency, West Java. This research is a qualitative research using ethnopragmatics. That is, verbal and nonverbal politeness of Sundanese people can be done through speech acts that use kinesthetic nonverbal language (facial, gestural, and postural). The data source of this research is routine activities carried out by Sundanese people in Sindangkasih Subdistrict. The data in this study are verbal and nonverbal languages that contain politeness. The technique of collecting data in this study was to adapt the ethnographic method and use the method of listening. The data analysis technique of this study uses a flow model consisting of data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions and verification. The results showed that the pragmatic meaning of verbal and nonverbal politeness of Sundanese people was manifested through kinesthetic nonverbal language, namely nonverbal facial language (facial expressions / facial expressions); gestural (eye movements, head movements, and hand movements); and postural (movements of all limbs, such as bowing, standing upright, leftward, and rightward).Keywords: Verbal language, nonverbal language, and politeness

CEBUANO-BISAYA UTTERANCES OF GRADE 2 PUPILS -Mangompit, Rowanne Marie Maxilom; Bornales, Florence Mae; Nakazawa, Shoji

This paper aimed at clarifying and further establishing the Cebuano â€“ Bisaya language through a descriptive analysis of the Cebuano-Bisaya utterances of Grade Two pupils from Don Bosco Technology Center during their Mother Tongue class. Moreover, the study determined the Typological Linguistic Universals by Greenberg (1963) applicable to Cebuano, Tanangkingsingâ€™s (2009) Nonverbal clauses, and Pesirlaâ€™s (2010) Verb Predicate forms and Content Words existent in the utterances. The study was a descriptive analysis of two regular classroom sessions or two 40-45 minute class between the Mother Tongue teacher and 45 pupils who were all boys. Interesting results were found such as the use of only three kinds of nonverbal clause, the dominance of nouns in their utterances, the existence of all kinds of verb predicates, and the application of 3 out of 6 typological linguistic universals. The results were taken from a teacher â€“ pupils discourse under the supervision of the said academe.Â Keywords: Cebuano, clauses, linguistic universals, typology, utterances
