Abstract

Background: the proportion of people with prediabetes is 2-4 times higher than the proportion of people with diabetes. One of the prevention efforts is through physical activity. Several studies have shown that physical activity has a significant effect on glycemic control.Purpose: this study aims to determine the effectiveness of different physical activities to glycemic control in prediabetic clients in Semarang municipality. Methods: a randomized control trial (RCT) with a pretest-posttest design was conducted on 60 prediabetic clients using different treatments (healthy / slow walking, brisk walking, combination of both slowly and brisk walking). An initial measurement (pretest) of glycemic control was carried out using an indicator of HbA1c levels and was remeasured (posttest) after 3 months. Results: the average level of glycemic control (HbA1c levels) before intervention in the healthy walking group was 5.57% and decreased to 5.46% after intervention; the combination group decreased from 5.93% to 5.78%, and in the slowly walking group decreased from 5.74% to 5.71%. However, there was no significant effect of slowly walking on glycemic control (HbA1c levels). Meanwhile, brisk walking and combination of slowly walking and brisk walking had a significant effect on glycemic control (HbA1c levels) (p0.05).Conclusion: the combination of physical activity group (brisk walking and slowly walking) has a better effect on glycemic control (HbA1c levels).

Abstract

Background: hypertension is a public health problem that is often found in developed and developing countries. There have been many managements of hypertension using non-pharmacological therapy because of their few side effects. Moreover, using more than one therapy in several studies has proven effective.Purpose: to determine the effectiveness of feet soak with warm water and murottal Al-Qur'an to reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Methods: this study used Quasy Experiments with Nonequivalent Control Group Design. These samples were 36 respondents. The sampling technique used purposive sampling and the tests used Paired Sample T-Test and Independent Sample T-Test.Results: the results showed that blood pressure before being given combination therapy with feet soak and murottal Al-Qur'an, showed average value 152.33 (systolic) and 94.17 (diastolic), while after being given combination therapy, the average value becomes 135.17 (systolic) and 81.11 (diastolic) means it has decreased with p value = 0.0000.05. In control group, there was no decreased change in diastolic blood pressure (p = 0.100).Conclusion: the combination of feet soak therapy and murrotal Al-Qur'an is effective in reducing systolic and diastolic blood pressure in hypertensive patients. This combination therapy can be applied easily using standard operating procedures that have been made in this study.

Abstract

Background: interdialytic Weight Gain (IDWG) is a parameter easily measured routinely at the beginning of a dialysis session and an essential indicator to recommend fluid intake for patients with kidney failure. Increased IDWG is associated with various complications in patients undergoing hemodialysis.Purpose: to analyze the factors that influence IDGW in hemodialysis patients. Methods: a cross-sectional design was used in this study. Data were collected during January-March 2022. Data collected included: demographic variable (gender, age, level of education, fluid intake, thirst, and stress)/ Data were analyzed with descriptive correlation statistic, Simple regression analysis ANOVA.Results: the total number of participants recruited was 65 participants who undergoing hemodialysis 1 month at a private hospital in Semarang, there were 27 participants (41.5%) in the moderate IDGW category, and 20 participants (30.8%) experienced severe stress, while fluid intake had an influence on IDGW (r=0.493, p=0.000), thirst (r=0.394, p=0.001) and stress (r=0.562, p=0.000).Conclusion: in this study, the factors associated with IDWG were fluid intake, thirst and stress. The previous 3 factors significantly increased IDWG due to decreased renal function, but increased fluid intake interfered with patient compliance, including fluid management and hemodialysis. Factors not included in IDWG include age, gender and education.
