Musawa : Jurnal Studi Gender dan Islam
Musãwa Journal of Gender and Islamic Studies was first published in March 2002 by PSW (Pusat Studi Wanita) Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta under contribution with the Royal Danish Embassy Jakarta. In 2008, published twice a year in collaboration with TAF (The Asia Foundation), namely January and July. Musãwa Journal is a study of gender and Islam especially on gender mainstreaming and child rights both in the study of texts in the Qur’an and Hadith, figures and thoughts, history and repertoire, classical and contemporary literature as well as socio-cultural studies. All concentrations are in the context of Indonesia and other countries in Southeast Asia within the framework of unified NKRI, based on Pancasila. Musãwa Journal has been published by PSW UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta since 2002. Initiated by lecturers, gender activists and Islamic studies scholars of PTKI ( Higher Education of Islamic Religion) Musãwa has regularly published academic works and researches on gender and Islam for almost two decades. Now, the Journal extends its studies with Children and Human Rights (HAM). All studies are still in the context of gender and its mainstreaming. Through the studies hopefully, the Musawa journal can be part of the implementation of gender mainstreaming in the context of Indonesian society.

Abstract

Berbeda dengan Tuan Guru (pemimpin agama) yang merupakan figure penting dan berpengaruh,  bukan hanya agama tetapi juga politik dan budaya, di Lombok, para istri mereka bukanlah tokoh dunia publik. Pengamatan demikian mungkin saja mengindikasikan terjadinya proses domestikasi yang lalu mengakibatkan subordinasi dalam relasi keluarga Tuan Guru. Penelitian ini menawarkan nuansa dan pemahaman lain dalam melihat relasi gender pada keluarga Tuan Guru, dengan menggarisbawahi cairnya demarkasi ruang public dan private yang terjadidi dalamnya. Penelitian ini mengungkap bagaimana sesungguhnya para istri Tuan Guru memposisikan dirinya dalam relasi kuasa pernikahan yang memberikan kesan bahwa relasi gender itu tidak linier dan kaku tetapi kompleks dan cair.  Pembagian ruang public dan private adalah isu penting bagi gerakan feminis.Agama, negara, dan keluarga dikritisasi sebagai lembaga-lembaga yang melanggengkan istrinisasi karena mereka masing-masing adalah dasar bagi, alat untuk, dan tempat bagi suburnya budaya patriarkhi. Ideologi gender yang dianut oleh Indonesia sebagaimana yang termaktub dalam UU perkawinan No 1/1974 misalnya membenarkan dikotomi laki-laki sebagai kepala keluarga dan perempuan adalah iburumah tangga. Negara,melalui system hukumnya, secara aktif memapankan pembagian yang kaku ini sembari menyamarkan berbagai fakta yang terjadi tentang bagaimana sesungguhnya perempuan Indonesia menegosiasikan pembagian yang kaku tersebut. Berdasarkan interview mendalam dengan para istri Tuan Guru dari tiga pondok pesantren yang terbesar di Lombok, penelitian ini mengungkap bahwa pembagian ruang public dan privat dalam keluarga Tuan Guru adalah sebuah cara untuk menegaskan identitas domestic seorang istri dan mendukung komitmen publik para Tuan Guru. Dalam beberapa poin, cara pandang ini memang mengadopsi ideologi yang ditanamkan oleh Negara sebagaimana dikemukakan di atas, tetapi dengan beberapa modifikasi. Garis pemisah antara ruang public dan domestic tidak selalu jelas karena para istripun bertanggungjawab dan terlibat aktif dalam kehidupan pesantren termasuk dalam bidang managemen, pendidikan, keuangan serta aktif berpartisipasi dalam pengembangan dan tanggungjawab social lembaga pesantren. Keterlibatan public istri tuan guru tersebut, hanya saja, bukan atas nama gerakan aktivisme atau pembebasan perempuan, tetapi lebih sebagai mendaulatkan diri mereka sebagai pemain belakang layar yang sangat menentukan keberhasilan perjuangan sosial para Tuan Guru. Di sinilah letak kompleksitas relasi gender itu.

Abstract

Most people don't realize that recently mass media has been discrediting women. News about women by media displays them purely on physical appearance as though it had been an "image" for a woman. The most tragic fact is that the language used in mass media merely focuses on physical appearance. This fact is indicated by a huge "show" by mass media that only display women as a commodity. Indirectly, mass media have exploited women for their own interests; namely increase their ratings (for TV) and tiras (for printed press). Displaying women merely as an object can be regarded as a crime, but it happens both in the news and infotainment."Psikologi perempuan juga psikologi massa, hendaknya dipahami oleh para bapak yang kebanyakan menjadi penentu kebijakan. Abstract

Kekerasan terhadap perempuan merupakan fenomena klasik dan masih terus terjadi hingga hari ini. Banyak faktor yang membuat kaum Hawa menjadi korban, salah satunya adalah faktor yang mengatasnamakan agama. Ini tentu sebuah ironi, karena agama sebenarnya tidak pernah mengajarkan kekerasan, apalagi terhadap perempuan. Melalui kajian surat al-Mujadilah ayat 1-6, Allah Swt begitu cepat merespon protes seorang perempuan yang mendapat perlakukan tidak adil dari suaminya. Ini sebagai bukti bahwa perempuan harus dimuliakan bukan dihinakan. Suami atau laki-laki yang semena-mena terhadap perempuan adalah suami atau laki-laki yang tidak terhormat.[The violence against women is a classic phenomenon and it keeps happened until nowadays. There are many factors which make women as the victim of this violence, one of them is religion factor. It is ironic because the religion never teaches about violence against women. Therefore, through the study of Al-Mujadilah: 1-6, Allah SWT answers the protest of women who get unfair treatment from her husband. It is as a proof that women should be honored instead of humiliated. The man was arbitrarily against women is a man who is not honorable.]

Abstract

This article talks about efforts to foster happy families to anticipate domestic violence. The perspective discussed would be in the in the views of Islam and the law in Indonesia. The existence of domestic violence is a fact in the social life of Indonesian families, many women and children have fallen victim thereto. Domestic violence could be avoided and reduced is the commitment constructed between husband and wife is consistent with the teachings of Islam and the relevant legal provisions. A proper understanding of respective roles, rights and obligations  would lead to happy families and the extinction of domestic violence.

Abstract

Along with the development of human awareness on gender injustice, the provision of woman witness in lsiamic law needs rethinking. Under the mainstream Islamic law a woman cannot give her witness except in any case moreover her witness is percentaged a half of man witness. Of course, in the outset such provision seems to be gender bias, because the Islamic law treats woman as incapable person. The most moslem scholars comprehended the argumentation texts textually without observing the socio-cultural context of Islamic message and Arabian culture. Nevertheless, the meaning of witness have to be understood as tool of witness proof. Significance of witness is not sex, but the justice and personality integrity witness, and connection of the witness with the fact that she/he sees with the result that the witness is really competent with that problem. If the witness is understood as proof of reality, inequality gender will be overcome. Finally, If we comprehend the religion contextually and progressively So there is no inequality gender will happen. Because Islam is progressive and peace religion and giving equality to everybody,

Abstract

The issue of homosexuality brings about various viewpoints that are controversial from any aspect. In terms of health, for example, many people link homosexuality as being the cause of the spread of HIV/AIDS, even though homosexuals themselves do not accept this accusation. In this article, Budi Wahyuni endeavours to look more "fairly" at this issue. According to her, HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases are caused by unsafe sexual practices. Among those sexual acts vulnerable to the spread of sexually trans mitted diseases are oral sex, anal sex and masturbation, whether they are done by homosexuals or heterosexuals.

Abstract

Nowadays the meaning of the jilbab has shifted and become somewhat misinterpreted. Understandings of the  purpose of the jilbab began with Tauhid, the principle teaching of Islam. The Tauhid teaches the true meaning of devotion to God or godliness, and also the true meaning of how to be human. The Tauhid teachings bring about recognition of sameness before God, and the obligation to respect other people without discrimination based on differences in sex, gender, ethnicity or religion. In Indonesia, the jilbab is not only worn as a form of identity but as a fashion accessory. It is not clear whether the use of the terms jilbab or hijab are to be interpreted as head coverings to the chest for women or not. For this reason, there is a need for a comprehensive understanding of the terms to be taken from a holy book, in this case the Al’Qur’an and hadis, so that there is no longer a distortion in meaning. A full understanding of the verses and hadis in relation to the jilbab and the hijab is not limited to symbolic use. Whether of not the use of the veil is merely symbolic, it must be considered in the current context of the rise of capitalist religiosity.

Abstract

Gerakan Saya Perempuan Anti korupsi (SPAK) Yogyakarta merupakan salah satu bagian dari aktivitas kegiatan pencegahan antikorupsi yang dicanangkan oleh KPK. Pada awalnya sasaran dari aktivitas di Yogyakarta adalah masyarakat umum, kemudian dipersempit untuk perempuan penegak hukum dan disabilitas. Perempuan memiliki peran yang penting dalam kegiatan pencegahan antikorupsi karena tanggungjawabnya dalam pengaturan ekonomi keluarga. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif, dengan penggalian data melalui observasi dan wawawancara dengan anggota SPAK. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa Aktivitas SPAK Yogyakarta merupakan bagian dari kegiatan pemberdayaan masyarakat yang mencakup 4 aspek, yaitu: kuasa, partisipasi, penyadaran, akses dan kesejahteraan. Pemberdayaan SPAK Yogyakarta tersebut merupakan sebuah proses panjang mengingat kegiatan yang dilakukannya sebatas training dan sosialisasi sebagai bagian dari pendidikan anti korupsi, yang untuk mencaapai perubahan sistem sosial anti korupsi harus dibutuhkan waktu dan energi yang cukup untuk proses training dan sosialisasi. Namun, kegiatan yang dilakukan sudah mampu memberikan penyadaran kepada aktor untuk melakukan tindakan pencegahan pada level diri, keluarga dan masyarakat untuk memiliki kuasa, akses, partisipasi dan kesejahteraan dalam tindakan pencegahan anti korupsi. Hal ini menjadi motivasi bagi SPAK Yogyarta untuk menjalankan kegiatannya secara terus menerus menuju negara dan masyarakat anti korupsi.[The movement of “I am Anti­corruption woman” (SPAK) Yogyakarta is one part of anti­corruption prevention activities proclaimed by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). At first, the targets of activity in Yogyakarta were the general public, then narrowed down for women in law enforcement and women with disability. Women play an important role in anti­ corruption prevention activities because they are responsible to manage the household’s economy. This research uses the qualitative method to collect the data through observation and interview. The result of this research shows that SPAK Yogyakarta activity is part of community empowerment covering four aspects, namely: power, participation, awareness, access, and prosperity. The empowerment of SPAK Yogyakarta is a long process due to the activities which are limited in training and socialization as part of anti­corruption education, whereas to achieve the change of anti-corruption social system, it requires sufficient time and energy to organize the training and socialization process. However, the activities undertaken are able to provide awareness for the actors to take preventive action at the personal, family, and community level to have the power, access, participation, and prosperity in anti­corruption prevention measures. It becomes the motivation for SPAK Yogyarta to run its activities continuously towards an anti­corruption state and society.]
