Abstract

This article presents a meta‐analysis of the survey literature that has examined gender bias as predictors of domestic violence. A meta – analysis of 62 studies from 35 articles, 33 researchers and 53423 subjects evaluated the correlation between gender bias and domestic violence. This analysis extends previous work by directly correcting error of sampling and measurements. Summary analysis provided support for the hypothesis that gender bias has a correlation on domestic violence. The results showed gender bias have been identified as predictors of the domestic violence Keywords: meta‐analysis, domestic violence, gender bias

Abstract

The purpose of this literature study is to investigate whether the two factor model was supported on any empirical studies: (1) whether distributive justice is more domi¬nant compared to procedural justice when predicting personal outcomes? (2) whether procedural justice is more dominant compa¬red to distributive justice in predicting organ¬i-zational outcomes? Meta-analysis approach were done based on 13 empirical studies from any international journals. The results show that the two factor model was supported. Keywords: Distributive justive, procedural justive, meta-analysis.

Abstract

Mall is a kind of very attractive public facilities that resemble product of technology. In addition to the need of high legibility for optimal use, visitor evacuation with relatively shorter reaction time is desired during emergency situation. The present research is conducted to study: (a) spatial cognition performance of human when short reaction time is demanded, and (b) utilization of such performance with You Are Here (YAH) map as cognitive navi¬gation tool for better emergency responds. The research method contains an expe-rimental work conducted at a real new mall building, involving 160 subjects and 18 experimenters. In this experiment, subjects were assigned to do wayfinding tasks, which covers finding way out through emergency stairs and exit. Prior to wayfinding, subjects were asked to look at a YAH map that has been manipulated in terms of the type (North Up Orientation/NUO or inline egodirec¬tion), and its placement rotation (R0, R45, R90, R135, R180, R225, R270, R315). Subjects were assigned to rank degree of clarity of 3 leaflets containing information of emergency responds at public building, to make scats map for assessing their cognitive map representation ability, and to answer questions related to the information covered in the leaflet. The following conclusions could be drawn: (a) there is a difference in wayfinding (finding way out through emergency stairs and exit) reaction time between YAH map that follow NUO and that of inline egodi¬rection; wayfinding reaction time of inline egodirection map is lower than that of NUO map; (b) there is a difference in the number of direction mistake during wayfinding between YAH map that follow NUO and that of inline egodirection; the number of direction mistake of inline egodirection map is lower than that of NUO map; (c) there is a combination of YAH map type and the way it is placed that results in relatively shorter wayfinding reaction time, i.e.: those that affecting mental rotation equal to zero; (d) there is a kind of leaflet that could be correctly perceived within a relatively short time; (e) in general all subject possess high cognitive map representation ability that could be utilized in cognitive navigation during emergency. Abstract

The purpose of this paper was to explore family burden, coping, and support for psychotic patients in a Javanese setting. A combination of ethnographic and clinical methodology was employed. During my fieldwork in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, I followed 9 participants diagnosed as having first episode psychosis. Three of them met the ICD-10 criteria for Schizophrenia, five for Acute and Transient Psychotic Disorder (ATPD), and one for Schizoaffective Disor¬der. I carried out ethnographic fieldwork among nine participants and their families in their natural home setting, as well as conducting in-depth interviews. In addition, I administered the Family Crisis Oriented Personal Evaluation Scale (F-COPES) for family members and Sentence Completion Test (SCT). The result indicated that despite experiencing psychological and economic burden, families provided a high level of support for their mentally ill members which are reflected in the application of Javanese principle of ngemong. Three aspects the practice of ngemong is discussed. Keywords: family, psychotic illness, bur¬den, coping, support, Javanese culture

Abstract

Risky sexual behavior has been consi-dered as a widespread social phenomenon recently. Its bad consequences bring us to the fact of the increasing of HIV/AIDS cases in the world. Behaviors like condom inconsis-tency, multiple sex partners and dangerous sexual encounters could be shaped by subs-tance use. Substance use itself is consist of the use of alcohol and drugs like marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy etc. This meta-analysis consist of 101 studies from 30 articles, involving 30136 participants from heterosexual male and female to bisexual and gay male. The result shows positive and significant correlation between substance use and risky sexual behavior. However, this fin-ding supports previous research’s results and also give further insight for other researchers in order to have more concern on other varia-bles for predicting risky sexual behavior. Keywords: substance use, risky sexual behavior, meta-analysis
