Abstract

Today, citronella essential oil business in Indonesia is fronting two major problems: a diverse range of product quality and fluctuated price. Meanwhile, the global market demand keeps increasing until 3–5% per year. This fact indicated that the citronella essential oil business was having a high chance of participating in the global market. This study aimed to analyze the citronella essential oil business feasibility as a “people-oriented-economy” activity and determine variables that affected the feasibility in implementing this business. Citronella essential oil is produced by a steam distillation process with a production capacity of 2,400 kg/year. The number of citronella essential oil international product sales was reaching 76% with the selling price of IDR 360,000/kg and reaching 24% on the local market with the selling price of IDR 180,000/kg, therefore the total of sales in 300 days/year was IDR 7,360,320,000. Based on this calculation the total of profit obtained in a year was IDR 99,463,383. An effort through managing the material and selling price sensitivity already done to maintain the BEP and B/C values. The increasing price was anticipated by managing the product selling price fraction, while the decreasing of the selling price anticipated by managing the market fraction.

Abstract

Farmer group institutions have been being a target group for various innovations in the agricultural development program. Unfortunately, the aspect of their institutional system is getting ignored frequently. This study aimed to know the farmer group institution performance’s determinant factors and its effect on the agricultural innovation implementation sustainability. This was a longitudinal study using a qualitative approach involving ten farmer group institutions (mixed crop-livestock farming) done in Lombok island. The study showed that farmer groups with a good institutional system relatively performed a high level of sustainable innovation implementation in comparison with the group with a poor institutional system. There were four key factors affected the performance and the farmer group institution’s achievement: (1) strong leadership; (2) transparency; (3) regular group meeting; (4) and cash generating factor. The study also showed that farmer group institution which didn’t have those key factors tended to use the farmer group institution only to complete their physical need (impounded cows for security reason). It rarely uses to empower its group members. These conditions slowly could be developed as an individualistic treat on each group member that prevents the sustainable innovation implementation in the future. The agricultural innovation on this type of group usually only implemented in a short amount of time. Therefore, guidance for a good institutional system in a farmer group institution is required to be conducted to achieve a sustainable and comprehensive agricultural innovation implementation. Some strategies could be used to develop the four key factors to form a good institutional system in the farmer group institution.

Abstract

A decision making for a long-term paddy grain and rice price guidelines need a future price prediction and a forecasting model that made based on time progression. The most popular model used is ARIMA. The common problem in forecasting the paddy grain and rice in Indonesia using this model was choosing the best model which fit all type of forecasting. This study aimed to determine the most appropriate ARIMA Model and forecast paddy grain and rice’s price on the farmer level, wholesale level, and international level. The prediction began after the stationary test and the best model selection conducted. The ARIMA model used was chosen by the lowest AIC and SC accuracy value. ARIMA Model used in this study were grain price on the farmer level (1,1,2), grain price on the milling level (1,1,2), rice price on the wholesale level (1,1,3), and rice price on the international level (3,1,7). The rice price prediction in the next sixth months on the farmer level was IDR 5,905.15/kg and the actual price was IDR 5,524.89/kg, on the milling level was IDR 6,014.35/kg and the actual price was IDR 5,641/kg, on the wholesale level was IDR 12,163.92/kg and the actual price IDR 12,115/kg, while the on the international level was US$ 462,065/Ton and the actual price was US$ 408/Ton.
