Indonesia has been present and is still able to maintain itself as a democracy icon that should be followed by other countries. As one of the largest democracies in the world, Indonesia in more than ten years is continue growing and transforming with its diversity in society, the dynamics and diversity issues. Indonesia was still able to maintain its identity as a democracy. Through these facts, this paper tried to describe the political situation in Indonesia in the 2014 Presidential Election, as well as reflect further on the response and the effect of foreign parties to the democratic mechanism. What happens in the electoral process in recent months and how Indonesia continues to become an example of the success stories of various identity democracies as diverse as a multicultural country, developing countries, as well as the country with the largest Muslim adherents in the world. This paper sees the problem through the concept of elections and democracy based on the analysis of identity. Probe Indonesia based on its identity in the international sphere as a democratic state becomes interesting when its identity was assessed by comparing it with other identities such as identity and role as a developing country and collective identity as the Southeast Asian country. The papers argue that the election process in Indonesia is not only shaped by domestic factors. Indonesia democratization maturity today can’t be separated from the support of international and Indonesian efforts in playing a role and maintain its identity as a democratic country in the international sphere. Abstract

Establishing a country according to Islamic perspective is a must. But the extent to which an Islamic country should be formed, is not considered significant as long as Islamic values are applied. This is to avoid contradiction between the essence of Islamic teachings and the immoral attitude of some Muslims. The differences between the true essence of Islamic teachings and the attitude of Muslims in their daily life would create discrepancy. The concept of democracy is in line with Islam, since Islam is a religion which supports truth, justice, law enforcement, freedom in all aspects of life including religion, speech, human rights and many others. Human rights are fundamental aspect to support since it is obtained from the early life of human beings as a divine gift. In this case, Islam as a divine religion considers human rights as essential needs of human beings. Islam treats all human beings as equal before the law, justice and freedom.

Abstract

Current conflicts frequently occur in military, environmental, economic, social and political fields. Conflict in the military field usually involves not only the competitive capability of military forces and armaments, and competitive military business, but also in their efforts to strengthen their regional power or hegemony. Islam safeguards both human beings and nature in order not to compete and clash in interests. Conflict essentially stems from injustice and greed of some people. Islam has addressed such issues by ensuring the fairness and warning on human greed. Islamic shariah basically aims to keep the balance in religion, soul and human life, wealth, honor and environment. Islamic shariah is not man-made, which overlooks the potentials of human beings and nature. Yet, it is the guidance of the Creator of both human beings and nature, which the former is well acquainted with all their issues, needs and harmony of human beings and His creation.

Abstract

This paper is aimed to find the cause of conflict in civil society by exploring the concept of intra-ethnic and inter-ethnic society offered by Ashutosh Varshney. According to Varshney, intra-ethnic engagement would lead the society to ethnic violence. On the contrary, inter-ethnic engagement would lead society to ethnic peace. This paper will show that inter-ethnic and intra-ethnic engagementsare impermanent circumstances, which are constructed by society. The inter-ethnic and intra-ethnic circumstances could be conducted by performing or not performing the symbols of each ethnic group. The example mentioned in this paper is the interaction between two religious-ethnic groups, namely; Buddhist-Tionghoa and Christian-Torajan. The data of the example were gained by doing qualitative fieldwork, particularly participatory observation.
