Abstract

Aforceddraftfan (FDF) shaft of a steam generatingpower plantfailed after several years inservice.Thefailed shaft showed a deep surface scratch on its one end and this was likely caused and advanced by thebearingfailure. The scratched endshaft was decided to repair by in-situ welding and machining. Anumber ofin-situ metallurgical examinations were performed to determine type ofmaterial and degree ofdamage thathave occurred on the shaft including: dye-penetrant test, chemical composition analysis, metallography byreplica technique and hardness test. From the test results obtained itwasfound that the FDFshaft was madeof material with specification ofJIS S45C or equivalent toAISI1045 - 1050. The test results obtained wereused to determine the machining depth being made onthe scratched shaft before performing welding repairand the welding process parameters required such as type of welding electrode and diameter, weldingcurrent, pre-heat temperature and post-weld heat treatment. The result of weld repair obtained showed thatthe hardness value of the repaired shaft was approximately close to the hardness value of the normal shaftmaterial, namelyrangedfrom 170 to 173 HB.

Abstract

Durability Test of Small Diesel Engine 27KW Using Coco-Diesel Today, government isconcern on using vegetable oil as alternative fuel which is environment friendly. Biofuel should betransformed to ester compound before used on diesel engines. It is caused that ester has similar physicalproperties comparing to the mineral oil (solar). This paper presents a durability test results on a dieselengine which used ester compoundfrom coconut diesel (coco methyl ester. The test was done for 100hours. The engine test used was a single cylinder Mitsubishi ™with capacity 27 HP. The engine wascoupled by generator electricity. During durability test the generator was loaded by heaters 10 KW. Fuelconsumption, opacity, exhausts gas temperature andoil condition waschecked at 0, 50 and100hours.Keywords: coco-diesel, specificfuel consumption, opacity, viscosity

Abstract

The cooling system of MTR GA. Siwahessy consists ofprimary cooling system and secondary coolingsystem which are equiped with several i. e.pumps are primary pump and secondary pump. The pumps are veryimportancefor supporting reactor operation. The reactor has beenoperatedmore than 27,000 hours since thefirst time operation on 1987, so theperformance primary pump need to be evaluated. The evaluation is basedonmeasurement results inthefield. The evaluation results ofpump performance ispresented bycharacteristiccurve consisting of: head, efficiency and pump power as the junction of flow rate capacity. The primarycooling pump characteristics after 27,000 hours in operation show that by increasing of head andpumppower, the power supply is still able overcome and still under its specified value i.e. 160kW. The deviation ofhead, pump power and efficiency compared the commissioning condition is less than 10 %. so the primarvpumpperformance is still good.

Abstract

Tofulfill the demandofhigher toughnessand hardness, a chemical composition modification is madeto SKD-ll. and the modification result is known as SKD-l I Mod. Since the modification is done at thechemical composition then automatically it will change everything, including the heat treatment process andresult. This research, first ofall. is conducted in view ofthe modification factors, whilst, at the same time toexamine whether the producers specification can be achieved.

Abstract

Biodiesel is the mono alkyl esters oflong chain fatty acids derivedfrom renewable lipid sources.Biodiesel as asubstitute ofpetroleum dieselfuel has some advantages: itproduces cleaner exhaust gas, betterin lubrication, and doesnt need engine modification. This paper presents the results ofresearch concerningthe effect ofdifferentfatty acid composition ofbiodiesel onfuel quality and its performance in diesel engine.For this purpose three different fuel sample were tested, Indonesian diesel fuel (solar) as a reference,blending solar 70%- oil palm methyl ester 30%(B-3 sawit) and blending ofsolar 70%- castor methylester 30 %(B-30 castor) . All ofthese fuels are tested using Hydra diesel engine, single cylinder indirectinjection (IDI). The test results shows that the performance (peak pressure in the cylinder) ofthreefuels arequite similar, however the two biodiesel blends show lower emission in smoke, hydrocarbon, and CO atdifferent injection timings and different loads. For NOx emission, it is slightly higher. B-30 castor containsmore unsaturatedfatty acids than B-30 sawit and therefore produced higher emission bfNOx. Beside, castormethyl ester contains an extra hydroxyl group in ricinoleic acid that probably leads to lower smoke andhydrocarbon compared to B-30 sawit. It is still aquestion that CO emission ofB-30 castor higher than ofB-30sawit. Research in the effect of chemistry andfatty acid composistionof biodiesel on the emission areneeded to be able describe mechanism ofCO, hydrocarbon andNOxformationfrom biodiesel.

Abstract

Determination of Air Temperature Distribution Equation in Annulus Room on LaminarSub Layer Theretorey. Laminar sub-layer is a very thin region near the wall has a laminar character andthe viscous action and heat transfer take place under circumstances like those in laminarflow. ^ Havingobtained a knowledge of the temperature distribution, the heat transfer rate from a heated surface to afluid which isforced over it may be determined. The temperature distribution is obtained by leastsquaremethod. Andthe observation data is closed by exponentialregression equation.

Abstract

In a combined cycle power plant without supplementary firing, the efficiency ofthe plant dependsmainly on the efficiency ofgas turbine powerplant. The power plant will be able to run over awide range i.erunfew gas turbines and opearting the remaining gas turbine at the highest efficiency close to thefull load.This paper presents some results ofstudy that carried out to evaluate the effect ofload variation ofthe GasTurbine Power Plant on the performance ofHeat Recovery Steam Generator ofthe combined cycle powerplant.

Abstract

Formation Dielectric Ceramic from (ZnO-TiOJ System at 1450C SinteringTemperature and Their Characteristics, Synthesis of dielectric ceramics from (ZnO-TiOJ system at145&C and their characterization had been carried out. This investigation was done in order to knowthepossibility of the application of the ceramics for dielectric ceramics. The ceramics were produced bymixing powder ofZnO and Ti02 with the concentration in such away so that the concentration ofTiO?larger than thestoichiometric concentration ofZn2Ti04 andbysintering at I450"C. Characterization wascarriedout through XRD, microstructural and electrical analyses. The XRDand microstructure analysesshowed that the (ZnO-TiOJ system ceramics formed Zn2.xTi.x04 solid solution which accompanied bytheformation ofZn vacancy defect. No second phasefound in the ceramics. Lattice constant ofthe Zn2.xTii x04solid solution decreasedfollowing the increase ofthe concentration ofTi02 excess (expressed byx). The Ti02 excess affected the grain size of the Zn2.xTi, x04 ceramics although the effect was notsignificant. At high temperature, the excess of Ti02 increased the dielectric constant and dissipationfactor. The ceramicsproduced in this work had relatively low dielectric constant and loss tangent andgood stability in relation to temperature change, so they can be applied as ceramic substrate andcapasitor dielectric.

Abstract

The Influence of Tool Path Strategies; Raster and 3D Offset to Flatness and Parallelismof Product. Parallelism of two surfaces is one of geometrical tolerance that can measure after theirtolerances offlatness are known. The parallelism andflatness are two geometrical characters thatusually require bystandardizedplates ofmould. Tool path ofmilling machine ona surface plateis one ofthing that influences their character. In this paper, geometrical character offlat plane surface that hadbeen machined by raster tool path strategy and 3D offset strategy will be analyzed. The result ofexperiment can beusefor refinement ofmachining strategies toachieve an optimized machining.

Abstract

Tension-compression and torsion low cycle fatigue testing were conducted by straincontrol on Aluminum alloy 6063 thin wall tube specimens. The relation between type of loading anddeformation characteristics were recordedand analyzedfor calculating equivalent stress and strain.The Von Misses and Henckys equation can transform the shear stress-strain into equivalent stressstrainvery good which is proved by experimental result. The life prediction based on the calculatedequivalent straingive a satisfactory resultfor both type of loading.
