Abstract

Millennium Development Goals has been mandated to always strived to reduce therate of loss of biodiversity as a very valuable genetic resources. Bali swine germplasmwhose condition is increasingly threatened by the inclusion of various types of pigs thathave the ability to produce more meat. Last post five years, Bali’s pig population in theprovince of Bali continued to decline and reached until 30 percent (243 310 head) of allpigs in Bali (817 489 head). Of the pig population in Bali as much as 53 percent in Buleleng.Bali pig role in socio-cultural activities and opportunities to explore the culinary marketrequires no effort to increase productivity in a sustainable pig Bali. Various strategicapproach to the development and preservation of pig Bali described in this paper as aneffort to accelerate the achievement of the millennium development.

Abstract

Gumi Banten plants are Balinese local plants that have social-religius function and apotential for roadside tree planting as well. Combining the roadside landscape plantingcriteria with the concept of Gumi Banten plants conservation is an effort to maintain thegenius loci of the Balinese culture within the human functionality living context of presentand future. The trees selection is done in two stages. The first focuses on trees structure andcharacteristics that safe for the use of roadside landscape planting. This first stage resultedin 13 trees out of 72 types of trees that had been identified in the book of EnsiklopediTanaman Gumi Banten. The second stage is for analysing the trees potential from the spatialfunction perspective on which a road is located. There are three aspects of roadside treelandscaping potential for this study that are ornamental, view guiding, and shelter.

Abstract

Abstract

This research was conducted in the western coastal region of Buleleng which includestwo districts, namely: Seririt District and Gerokgak District. The research aims were (1) toanalyze the trend of the dynamics of sea level in the period of 2002 to 2010, and (2) to predictthe spatial distribution of flood of sea water. The data used are Envisat satellite altimetry datafrom the results of post-processing data, which were then analyzed the trend of mean sea leveland forecast of sea level rise for year 2020 using linear regression analysis. To determine thespatial distribution of area flood of sea water, then the data of level rise forecast were analyzedwith Geographic Information System (GIS). The results of this research define that the functionalrelationship of the trend of mean sea level rise in the area of research is y = 0.051 x + 1.612. Theprediction of mean sea level rise that is obtained every year 5.1 cm and for 2020, the sea levelrise is predicted to reach 2,224 cm. The width of coastal area that is potentially flooded of seawater reaches 812.954 m2 (0.227%). Spatially, the widest food area is Pejarakan village and thenarrowest is Celukan Bawang village. The percentages of the villages that are flooded to areavillages show a relatively homogeneousdistribution.

Abstract

Abstract

Biofilter septic tank is one of the domestic wastewater treatment technology uses contactmedia in processing wastewater. Contact media that can be used made from plastic or localmaterial such as volcanic scoria. This research is an applied research in order to test theefectiveness of volcanic scoria as contact media. Location of this research is Badung Regency,Bali. Research conducted by built biofilter wastewater treatment unit at research locationthat have been selected by doing first step that is designing biofilter septic tank in accordancewith the location and teoritically. Wastewater from conventional septic tank at researchlocation flowed into biofilter tank and left in the certain time to grow the biofil which willprocess the wastewater. In certain time, wastewater quality was tested and counted thedecrease percentage of wastewater concentration content. The research result showed thatthe biofilter septic tank is not effective to treat wastewater effluent from conventional septictank because it can only reduce the concentration of wastewater content about 48,74%.The parameters that not comply the wastewater standard such as free ammonia, BOD5, andCOD were reduced each about 82.15%, 45.61%, and 46.04%.

Abstract

Gerris marginatus is one fresh water insect distributed from temperate to tropicalareas. It can be found in almost every freshwater biotope, making them excellent objects forecological and biogeographic studies.  Most recent studies found that this water insect wasone good candidate for examining the effect of fresh water pollution.  This species showsmorphometric differences between male and female, but there has no studies examining thismorphometric differences particularly in tropical areas.  This study aimed to determine andinvestigate the morphometric differences between male and female and their sex ratio of G.marginatus in one of freshwater body in Bali.   Samples were collected from Jangu River atKarangasem Regency on February 2014.  Samples were preserved in 70 % awaiting foridentification and further studies. Identification was performed at Animal TaxonomyLaboratory, Biology Department. The results show that there were morphometric differencesbetween male and female of G. marginatus in tropical area.  Males were significantly largerof many variable measured compared to females. However, they also exhibit sex ratio biastoward females.
