Abstract

The experiment of sustainable technology application with casting organic fertilizer and styloassociation with King grass was conducted at Siut Cattle farm at Gianyar regency. The experimentdesign was a randomized block design arranged in Split-plot pattern and was replicated threetimes. The treatment consisted of two factors as follows: (1) two types of cropping systems as mainplot (King grass monoculture and King grass – stylo association), (2) four levels of casting organicfertilizer as sub-plot (0, 10, 20, dan 30 t ha -1). The variable studied were: forage production, production characteristic, and leaf characteristic. Leaf characteristic variable consisted of: leafarea, leaf color, and leaf thickness. The results showed that: casting organic fertilizer weresignificantly (P<0.05) effect on leaf area and leaf production. Cropping system was not significantly(P>0.05) effect on all of variable studied. There was no significantly interaction (P>0.05) foundedbetween cropping system and casting organic fertilizer on all of variable studied. The conclusion ofthese experiment were: casting application at King grass and its association with stylo wasincreased forage production at first regrowth. The optimal levels of casting organic fertilizer in Kinggrass monoculture and that association with stylo were 17.09 dan 16.41 t ha -1 respectively.

Abstract

A Study on land potential and suitability for farming of agricultutral food crop plants wasconducted at Waikomo watershed, Lembata Regency, Nusa Tenggara Timur Province. Aimsof this study were to identify location of the land which was suitable for agriculture, and toidentify land suitability and limiting factors. This study was carried out trough field surveyby using map of slope class as land unit. Identification and soil sampling were carried out oneach land unit. Land potential for agriculture was analysed by criteria of land capability, while classification of land suitability was analysed by criteria of land suitability. Results ofthe land capability study showed that there were four land units which were suitable to beplanted agricultural crops. Theplants which could grow there were corn, sorghum, Phaseolusbeans, and sweet potatoes.

Abstract

Research is aimed to utillize archaeologicxal data sources ( artifact, isncription, manuscript) toinventory and study royal garden conception in Balinese kingdom period ( X – X Ceturies). It was carried outby research method. Firstly data was collected by literature study, observation, and interview. Then collecteddata analylized by descriptive qualitative techniqueResults of the research showed as follows. Royal garden establishment were affected by environmentaland cultural elements. Environmetal elements consist of physical and biological elements. Most importantphysical elements which very determined for garden establishment were water resouce, climate (24 0 C – 26 0C ), and topography ( 0 % - 3 %).Biological elements included vegetation (floweral and sacred trees such as menuh, angsana, bodhi, yellow coconut tree), and fauna include frogs, birds, fish, bumblebee and others.Meanwhile cultural elelementsrelated to social an cultural values, religious value, technology of hydrology, sicence of etnobotani ,planology, art , and social behavior.Function of the the royal garden were : (1) as a place to seek a quiet atmosphere, (2) a place forpurification and mediation, (3) as supplier of ritual equipments and conservative function, (4) as a suitableplace for study, (5) as a place to manage state policies, (6) for recreation and entertainment, (6) symbol ofpolitical stability and state prosperity.Royal garden conception was much affected by availablity of water resouce. There was a tendency thatthe garden which established was not just intended to honor a living king, but it also purposed to worshipking’s achestors and others divenes. The royal garden design is a inseparated design of capital kingdom’smasters plan. Since the royal garden was intergrated with a temple, so there was a tendency to choose sacredspace or sacred compass point ( east, north, or north-east) for gadern establishment. This concept pattern wasbased by cosmic conciousness to maitain balance and harmony between macrocosm (bhuwana agung) andmicrocosm (bhuwana alit or kingdom state) in order to reach peacefulness, properity and welfare life on earth.

Abstract

Life creates and maintains environmental conditions as such, that is necessary tosupport life itself. Weeds, as part of living beings, are not plants out place, or out of time, butrather plants which their meanings, roles, and importances, for man in particular and life ingeneral are still unknown. The existence of weeds is not only for their spatial and trophicniches, but also for their multidimentional (in balancing environmental quality) and geneticniches. Therefore, weed control must be part of efforts in vegetation management. Variousefforts in weed management, in particular those with herbicides, from their production, distribution, storage, and applications must be based on their environmental feasibility, andnot just their economic and technological feasibilities. The development of weed management technology must be supported by scientificand technological studies, but the results must be translated in a simple and practical way forthe users and the farmers, since only simple innovations easy to understand and easy toimplement that will motivate efforts for a better cultural practices.
