Abstract

Distance learning organized by Universitas Terbuka provides many benefits and opportunities for students in remote areas to get higher education services. For the time being, this learning program is facilitated by e-learning assistance program using technology and information media. This learning process emphasizes unlimited materials for students outside the main source, Buku Materi Pokok, that can be accessed whenever and wherever. The main focus of this tutorial online is to give a chance for students to learn in their free time, give them learning assistance, and measure how they understand the materials given. This emphasizes the learning process independently and autonomously. This article tries to give a new sight in this Tutorial Online about a technique or a model that can be applied. This model encompasses practices, assignments, and tasks can be done independently by students. This learning model will improve and build students’ autonomous learning by providing them with authentic yet simple tasks, practical and independent assignments.

Abstract

Pandemic outbreak today has changed any sectors including education, from their normal state into the condition we never expected before. From primary to higher education, the institutions are forced to change teaching and learning models into virtual since the Government tries to stop the spread of the virus by prohibiting face-to-face classes. Online learning has come like tsunami trends as the outbreak rose. It also happened in some vocational schools where students live in the dormitory. Initially, they conducted offline classes, but they were transferred to go home as the virus spread. In one semester, they faced two models of learning, online and offline. Based on this situation, this article aims to disseminate the effectiveness of blended-learning models to improve students' motivation and confidence in speaking class by using the material to build their high-order thinking skills. The method of this study is combined between experimental and descriptive qualitative, by which the result of the study and analysis will be described in numbers and words.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to look into the English needs of Sharia bank employees in Semarang, Central Java. Qualitative research was used as the design research of this research. The subject of this research was 30 bank employees in one sharia bank in Semarang. Research data was collected by using interviews and questionnaires. The result of this research showed that: (1) Speaking and listening skills are more needed in their work especially as customer service than reading and writing skills; (2) Sharia bank employees also need English material especially in the terms of banking, accounting, and also computer programs. The employees need more about special terms relate to their jobs. Besides that, they also need skills in writing business correspondence for back-office positions.

Abstract

The Covid-19 outbreak today changes a lot in the way teaching and learning progress in Indonesia. In most parts of the country, teachers still use the traditional ways to transfer knowledge from the collaboration of the conventional means of learning such as textbooks, boards, and situated in a classroom. In this pandemic situation, Government proposes that all teaching and learning activities in the schools should be conducted online. It makes stakeholders of education sectors, especially primary and secondary, manage learning strategies and systems. Based on the situation, Universitas Terbuka as the pioneer of open learning system has one program to facilitate students come from different places all around. It has an online tutorial where students can access material not only from the textbook but also supplementary materials such as teacher’s tutorial video, online tasks and exercises, and also online assessment. This kind of system can be adapted for traditional schools in the Pandemic era so that learning loss will not happen since students and teachers can still get connected to achieve learning goals. This article describes how the online tutorial UT can be implemented for primary, secondary, and even higher education in the Pandemic era to replace the traditional learning systems.

Abstract

Online Learning is the only learning method proposed and approved by the Indonesian Government during the Covid-19 Pandemic that happens in Indonesia one year ago. However, parents find difficulties and obstacles while accompanying their child during the learning process in their homes. This research aims to show parents’ perception and evaluation toward teachers’ performance and teaching methodology. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative to describe parents’ opinions and reveal their arguments and suggestion to the ideal teaching and learning progress in the Covid-19 Pandemic. The instruments used for data analysis are in the form of a survey by using Google Form. The data were taken at the beginning of the second semester of the 2020/2021 academic year. The results show the majority of parents prefer the blended learning method compared to only the online learning method to use in the pandemic situation.

Abstract

The business world has overgrown, creating fierce competition among English course institutions in Indonesia. The marketing communication strategy becomes vital for these institutions in informing about the products and the brands to form market perceptions of the services offered and to build brand awareness. The success of a marketing communication strategy of a business can be measured by its brand awareness among the market audiences. English Café is an English course institution in Semarang City that has the concept of making a café a supporting tool and a convenient place for studying and practicing English. Our research aims to explore its marketing communication strategy and measure its brand awareness among the samples taken from Semarang citizens, including its students and others. The qualitative method is used in the analysis with a descriptive data presentation. The tools include observations, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The researcher found the data result, there were 43 respondents; 12 respondents recognized English Café as an English course institution in Semarang. It was called Top of Mind which had a percentage of 27.91%. They had built the Top of Mind level of brand awareness for English Café Semarang. The researcher found 22 respondents who recalled the English Café brand without the aid of recall when they needed the English Café course program. It was called Brand Recall which had a percentage of 51.17%. In the last finding, the researcher got 9 respondents who were unaware of the English Café brand as an English course institution in Semarang. It was called Unaware of Brand which had a percentage of 20.93%.

Abstract

Nowadays, it is important to shape students into autonomous learners since technology and the internet rise massively. Post-pandemic era makes learning English more flexible. It can be done through various kinds of media such as social media, online quizzes and courses, and many applications that support students to be autonomous. Making students to be autonomous learners means they can study with their external motivation by which they can feel motivated and unlimited of time and place. It aims to increase students' motivation and awareness of learning Procedure Text for Junior High School students from an integrated application of material and assessment. The research method was Research and Development, in which the writer will develop software for English teaching media. English teachers can use this application to teach Procedure text because the result shows an improvement in students' achievement and motivation compared to the pre-test conducted before the treatment is given. Product testing on the interface and the material presented in the application showed that students' learning outcomes increased, and satisfaction or interest in English subjects had a significant impact. Both were obtained from the post-test conducted and also observation of the learners.

Abstract

This journal discusses the implementation of character education oriented towards moral values ​​as an integral strategy in shaping the character of students. Involving an analysis of the concept of character education and moral values, this research explores the methods, strategies and impacts of this implementation. The research results show that this approach makes a positive contribution to character development, increases moral awareness, and produces students who are more ethically resilient. Despite facing a number of challenges, such as limited resources and resistance to change, this journal presents recommendations to increase the effectiveness of implementation, including improving the curriculum and teacher training. In conclusion, the implementation of character education oriented towards moral values ​​has great potential in forming individuals who are committed to moral integrity.
