Abstract

In patients with diabetes generally increased blood glucose levels if accompanied by excess body weight and long-lasting it can increase the risk of diabetic ulcer complications. The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) values in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the Klampis Ngasem Surabaya Public Health Center. The research design was an analytic observational approach with a cross-sectional study. The sample in this study was 124 respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique. The instruments were in terms of scales, stature meters, digital sphygmomanometers, and observation sheets. The data were analyzed using Spearman's Rho Test with significance (0.05). The results of the research showed that there was a correlation between BMI and ABI values in patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at Klampis Ngasem Surabaya Public Health Center Surabaya (ρ value = 0.000) with a correlation coefficient (r = -0.392). BMI is one of the factors that can affect the ABI value in diabetic patients. It’s expected that health workers will help DM sufferers improve their quality of life through DM disease management behaviors by implementing a healthy lifestyle in order to reduce the risk of complications that can arise due to diabetes mellitus.

The death toll from an earthquake will increase along with the knowledge of the community and the level of preparedness they have. This study aims to see the significance of the relationship between knowledge and student preparedness in dealing with earthquake disasters in the campus environment. Method : Research design with descriptive correlational cross sectional approach. Sampling using non-probability sampling technique random sampling The research sample was 237 students at STIKES Hang Tuah Surabaya & STIKES NHM with questionnaires in the period of June- July 2022. Test data analysis using ChiSquare. Results The results showed that the majority of STIKES Hang Tuah Surabaya students had good knowledge of 205 (86.9%) and moderate preparedness of 226 (95.4%). Statistical test results show the value of ρ=0.011 (ρ<α=0.05) which means that knowledge has a close relationship with preparedness in the face of earthquakes. Conclusion The implications of this research can be concluded that increasing knowledge is an important part of mitigation in increasing preparedness in the campus environment in dealing with disaster threats, especially earthquakes in particular.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a common problem that occurs in people who have metabolic disorders characterized by increased blood sugar due to decreased secretion by pancreatic beta cells or impaired insulin function. Objectives: This study aims to determine what factors are associated with self-management in Type 2 DM patients at the Buduran Health Center.Design: This study was a quantitative research. The design in this study was a cross-sectional analytic with a sample of 80 people who were carried out at the endocrine polyclinic Puskesmas Buduran Sidoarjo. Research instrument used the Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire (DSMQ) developed by Schmitt et al (2013) to determine the self-management of type 2 DM patients and to measure the level of knowledge using the Diabetes Knoeledge Test (DKT) instrument developed by Burrough et al (2008), measure to physical activity using the Summary of Diabetes Self Care Activities (SDSCA), measure to family support using Family Support Questionairre, and measure to self efficacy using Diabetes management Self Efficacy Scale (DMSES). The sample siza with simple random sampling method, and data analysis using spearman rank test. Results: The results showed that there was a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and self-management with a coefficient value (r=0.576), a significant relationship between activity ability and self-management with a coefficient value (r=0.612), a significant relationship between family support and self-management with a value of coefficient (r=0.592) and there is a significant relationship between self-efficacy and self-management with a coefficient value (r=0.660). Conclusion: Patients DM Type 2 can be overcome by providing education in every prolanis activity program which is expected to increase knowledge, activity abilities, family support and self-efficacy, so that patients are able to improve self-management well. This intervention is highly recommended for people with Type 2 DM by increasing the frequency of health education and involving the family of diabetes mellitus patients so that patients are able to carry out self-management well.
