Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk menemukan beberapa gejala, yaitu sebagian siswa kurang tertarik dalam belajar tentang teks naratif, sebagian siswa masih mendapatkan kesulitan dalam menulis kalimat, kurang mempunyai kosakata bahasa inggris dan para siswa tidak tertarik untuk menulis. Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah Apakah Penggunaan Model Pembelajaran Think Talk Write (TTW) Dapat Meningkatkan Kemampuan Menulis Pada Materi Teks Naratif Dikelas VIIIA SMPS Johan Sentosa dan Apa Faktor-Faktor Yang Mempengaruhi Perubahan Kemampuan Menulis Siswa Pada Materi Teks Naratif Dengan Menggunakan Model Pembelajaran Think Talk Write (TTW) Dikelas VIIIA SMPS Johan Sentosa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui Keefektifan Penggunakan Model Pembelajaran Think Talk Write (TTW) Materi Teks Naratif Dikelas VIIIA SMPS Johan Sentosa.Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Penelitian ini dimulai dari 09 Juli 2018. Tekhnik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini adalah dengan observasi, tes, catatan lapangan dan wawancara. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIIIyang berjumlah 25 siswa. Instrument pada penelitian ini menggunakan tes.Berdasarkan perhitungan pada tes pertama pada siklus I rata-rata adalah 72,00. Selanjutnya, pada tes kedua pada siklus II rata-rata adalah 79,36.Jadi dengan model pembelajaran Think Talk Write (TTW) dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa pada materi pelajaran naratif text dikelas VIIIA SMPS Johan Sentosa Kabupaten Indragiri Hulu. This study is to face some symptomps that are some students do not interest in learning narrative text, some students difficult to write, and some students are poor vocabulary. The formulation of the problem in this research are “How does the using Think Talk Write learning model can improve the students‟ writing skill on Narrative Text at Grade VIIIA at SMPS Johan Sentosa?”, and “What are the factors that influence changes of students‟ writing skill on narrative text by using Think Talk Write learning model at Grade VIIIA at SMPS Johan Sentosa?”. The purpose of this research are to know the effectiveness of using Think Talk Write learning model in improving students‟ writing skill in narrative text at Grade VIIIA at SMPS Johan Sentosa, and to know the factors that influence changes of student‟s writing skills on narrative text by using Think Talk Write learning model at Grade VIIIA at SMPS Johan Sentosa. The kind of this research is Class Action Research (CAR). It was started from July 09th 2018, and for data collecting technique was using observation, field notes, interview, and test. The population in this research are 25 students, and the instrumentation by using test. Based on the calculation in the first test at cycle I the average is 72,00. Next, in the second test at cycle II the average is 79,36. So, the using of Think Talk Write Learning Model can improve the students‟ writing skill on narrative text at grade X VIIIA at SMPS Johan Sentosa Indragiri Hulu District. Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the result of the study: the ability of the fifth yearstudents of English Study Program in writing. This study is a descriptive research that has only one variable that is the students’ ability in paraphrasing paragraphs is evaluated by giving the students a test in form of writing a paraphrase. This research was conducted at English Study Program FKIP-UNRI. The participants of the research were the students of the fifth semester of English Study Program of FKIP-UNRI. The researcher gathered the data in form of writing test (writing paraphrase).

Abstract

A descriptive qualitative method was used in this research. It aimed to find out the students’ ability in understanding Past Simple. The instrument of the research to gather the data was in the form of written test which was delivered to the the second semester students. They are asked to do the test of verbal sentence, nominal sentence and irregular or regular verb use. The test was designed based on the relevant literature review and the authors’ observation during the teaching learning process which took time especially when the material of the Past Simple was explained. For the test as a whole, there were only 3 students (12.5%) who had high category level of Past Simple understanding. Meanwhile, 10 students’ ability in understanding Past Simple (41.7%) was in the middle category. There were 11 students (45.83%) whose ability belonged to the low category. In short, the students’ ability in understanding Past Simple was still low. The research findings give some points of view for a lecturer to remember that he needs to have various teaching techniques to get her students’ attention to learn and practice more about the use of tense, especially Past Tense. The lecturer can also use interesting audio visual teaching media so that the students get more interest to acquire the rules

Abstract

The objective of this research is to know the factors that influence the students’ difficulties in describing places based on internal and external factors. The subject of this research consists 24 students. The method used in this study was Descriptive Analysis. The data            of this research were gathered through quiz and interview questions. The techniques of data analysis used quantitative and qualitative analysis. The researcher obtained the score of the quiz result were 66,5%. It was categorized fair good. And the factor that influence the students’ difficulties based on indicator of speaking in observation checklist were students still embarrassed, lack of vocabulary and grammar, difficulties in pronouncing word and difficulties in developing ideas while speaking. The factors that influence the students’ difficulties comes from the internal factors and external factors. From internal factors were Readiness to learn which is 40%, interest and talent is 73%, physiological is 46% and intelligence is 88. From the external factors are teaching methods and curriculum. Teaching methods is 26% and curriculum is 31%.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the effectiveness of pair check learning model on students’ writing skill of recount text. The research design was experimental by giving pre-test and post-test to the class. It involved 30 participants of SMPN 4 Pasir Penyu. The research question were posted in this study in order to find out the significant effect of using pair check learning model on students’ writing skill of recount text. Pretest and posttest were administered in this study and sample t-test was used to analyze the data. The research finding shows that there was significant effect of using pair check learning model on students’ writing skill of recount text. The data was analyzed by using t-test. It proved that this model can be used to teach recount text, the final test showed that from 30 students of experimental class, they got average 74.16 and S2 was 96.69 then controlled class got the average 38.66 and S2 was 92.44. Based on this data, it was done the t-test, and the result is tcount > table, it is 14.14 > 2.00. It means that this study is accepted. So, it can make inference that pair check learning model can be applied in teaching writing recount text especially at SMPN 4 Pasir Penyu.

Abstract

This paper is focused on factors that influence the changes in students’ writing ability. Several factors can affect students’ academic writing, it can come from culture, education, social aspects, and cognitive aspects. Those factors are too broad to be discussed in this paper. Finally, the author tries to describe the factors that are just related to the teaching process. They are materials, media, classroom activities, classroom management, teaching strategy, and teacher‘s approach.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to find out the effectiveness of applying Behavioristic Theory on students’ speaking skill of recount text. The research design was experimental by giving pre-test and post-test to the class. It involved 25 participants of SMP N 3 Sungai Lala. The research question was posted in this study in order to find out the significant effect of applying behavioristic theory on students’ speaking skill of recount text. Pretest and posttest were administered in this study and sample t-test was used to analyze the data. The finding shows that there was no significant effect of behavioristic theory on students’ speaking skill. The mean level is 37,33 (for the experimental class) become 49,96 (for the control class). The finding of t-0 is -1.947; while the level of significance of 5% is 2.02 and the level of significant 1% is 2.64. It can be stated that 2.02>-1.947

Abstract

The method used to conduct this research was the descriptive qualitative method. The sample of the research was the fourth-semester students of the English Education Department which consisted of 24 students. The aim of this research is to know their ability in using pronouns.  To collect the data, a written form of the test was used and it was divided into two categories (multiple choice and essay). The students were then asked to do the test of pronouns of a subject, object, adjective possessive, possessive and reflexive. The design of the test was based on the relevant literature review and the authors’ observation when the teaching and learning process about pronouns took place.  After the analysis of the data, the average score obtained from the student's test was 6.4 which belonged to the fair good category. The result of the test showed 23 students (96%) whose abilities were in the middle category, 1 student (4%) whose ability was in the low category, and 0 students (0%) whose ability was in the high category.   Even though the results make the authors surprised, the findings of the research can give some points of view for a lecturer to prepare the lesson materials better, apply various teaching techniques to get the student's attention and interest during the teaching-learning process and use various teaching aids to support the success of his teaching so that the students could have better understanding and competence in English.Keywords: Ability, Pronoun

Abstract

Writing in English can make students very enthusiastic about learning because writing requires a lot of things so that writing can be accepted academically. Not all students can write correctly. So, this is the author's motivation to find out the ability and the factors that influence of student difficulty in writing verbal and nominal sentence. The subjects of this research were 24 students. The method used in this research is descriptive research with qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques. The score of the quiz result were categorized fair good. Afterwards, the internal factors shown that the students were bad mood to learn English, not ready to learn English, they claimed English language is bored and they felt sleepy while learned English. Finally, the external factors shown that they didn’t like make a group discussion because couldn’t be focus on materials, the teacher not explained well and they confused the methods used
