Abstract

This research was a classroom action research which intended to improve the senior high school students? vocabulary achievement by applying Kahoot as learning media in the teaching and learning process. The research was conducted to 40 students from grade X of Islamic Senior High School (Madrasah) in Kota Blitar. The procedure in this research   followed some steps based on Kemmis and Taggart model namely; 1) Planning, 2) Acting, 3) Observing and 4) Reflecting. The data collection of this research were taken from tests and questionnaire. The research showed that the use of Kahoot as media in teaching and learning vocabulary particularly in ?introducing oneself? could improve the students' vocabulary achievement. The pre-test showed that the students' score was 59.23). That score was under the minimum criterion mastery set by the school (75.00). After 1st cycle, there was an improvement on the students' score became 71.23 but it was still under minimum criteria. Therefore, it needed the 2nd cycle in which the score improved into 84.58. The improvement on the students? achievement was supported by the students? positive attitude toward the use of Kahoot in teaching and learning.

Abstract

The student's ability in understanding and using academic and research vocabulary was lack. Therefore, this research tries to enhance the students’ vocabulary achievement by applying Memrise and Quizlet Applications at one of the private university in east Java, Indonesia. This research applied Classroom Action Research using four procedures: Planning, Acting, Observing, and Reflecting. The researchers obtained the data from tests and questionnaires. The result reveals that the vocabulary implantation through  Memrise and Quizlet applications increases the students' achievement from the average score of 55.62 in Pre-Test to 89.54 in Post-Test. Furthermore, the students also presented a positive attitude (91%) to the implementation of Memrise and Quizlet for learning vocabulary. The lecturers or teachers can use Memrise and Quizlet Applications as media to motivate students and provide them with fun and independent learning. The students' vocabulary achievement increased after learning vocabulary using Memrise and Quizlet applications from the result presented above. The majority of the participants in this research also favored using Memrise and Quizlet applications to implant the vocabulary. Therefore, the researchers suggest that the teachers or lecturers who teach vocabulary use Memrise and Quizlet applications as an alternative media to implant the vocabulary materials to the students in long-term memory.

Abstract

Pelatihan Intermediate English Grammar di English Conversation Club (ECC) MAN Kota Blitar diadakan karena siswa ECC di MAN Kota Blitar memiliki penguasaan Intermediate English Grammar yang masih kurang. Berdasarkan hasil pre-test yang diadakan pada tanggal 14 Februari 2020, diperoleh hasil rata-rata yang tidak memuaskan yaitu 55.76. Grammar merupakan sub skill penting untuk membantu siswa dalam menulis atau berbicara dalam Bahasa Inggris secara tepat, oleh karena itu penulis merasa perlu membantu siswa tersebut agar memiliki penguasaan Intermediate English Grammar yang baik. Sebagai wujud pengabdian penulis kepada masyarakat, maka Penulis mengadakan Pelatihan Intemediate English Grammar dengan menggunakan  Blended Learning yang dilaksanakan setiap hari Jumat mulai tanggal 14 Februari – 13 Maret 2020 di Aula English Corner MAN Kota Blitar, yang dilanjutkan dengan menggunakan Group WhatsApp (20 Maret-17 April 2020). Pelatihan ini diikuti oleh 50 siswa ECC MAN Kota Blitar  dengan tertib. Setelah Siswa ECC MAN Kota Blitar  mendapatkan pelatihan, penguasaan Grammar mereka meningkat menjadi  85.52. Dari hasil tersebut penulis berharap siswa ECC MAN Kota Blitar bisa mengaplikasikan ilmu yang mereka dapat melalui pelatihan tersebut untuk menulis atau berbicara Bahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan Grammar yang tepat

Abstract

Vocabulary achievement improved after learning vocabulary using Memrise and Quizlet applications from the results presented above. This study also used the Memrise and Quizlet applications to instil vocabulary. Therefore, the researcher suggests that teachers or lecturers who teach use the Memrise and Quizlet applications as alternative media to instil word material in students in the long term.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to improve the Students’ procedure text writing achievement at English Conversation Club (ECC) MAN Kota Blitar by applying Padlet. The research design used was classroom action research (CAR) which covered 4 steps; 1) Planning, 2) Acting, 3) Observing and evaluating and 4) Reflecting. The Subjects of this research were 50 students from X Grade who join ECC in MAN Kota Blitar.The data collection methods of this research were taken from administering tests and distributing the questionnaire. The research result proved that the use of Padlet for teaching writing of procedure text could increase the students’ writing achievement of procedure text from preliminary action 57.55 increased to 72.85 in cycle 1. Based on the result of cycle 1, it did not fulfill the minimum criterion mastery 75.00; therefore, the researchers continued the research to cycle 2 and got satisfying result 82.65. Furthermore, the students’ of ECC MAN Kota Blitar also presented positive attitude toward the use of Padlet in teaching and learning writing of procedure text.

Abstract

One important character which should be owned by teacher that influence the outcome of teacher is called as teacher self – efficacy. However, the correlation between teacher’ self – efficacy and linguistic proficiency hasn’t really investigated yet. Hence, this research aims to examine the connection between language proficiency to their efficacy perceptions. The participants of this research were 11 teachers of private University in Indonesia with various demographic characteristics. They were asked to answer related to the Teacher Efficacy Scale (TES) and recognize their linguistic proficiency self – rating. The statistical analyzing result which used Pearson – product moment correlation and Regression analysis showed a signification correlation between teacher’s self – efficacy and their proficiency level. The regression results also affirmed that the possibility level of proficiency of self – efficacy beliefs of teachers in classroom activity. The findings of this research are elaborated in relation to the previous research.

Abstract

In this digital era, we cannot ignore that the use of Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) has given many benefits for both teachers and students in English instruction, especially in facilitating the students with an enjoyable and interesting learning experience. This research is a case study which aimed to investigate: 1) How is the implementation of CALL in the EFL setting, 2) How are the students’ attitude toward the use of CALL in English teaching and learning process, 3) How are the students’ achievement after the implementation of CALL in English teaching-learning process. The Subjects of this research were 30 students at SMA Laboratorium UM Malang. The data of this research were collected from the interview, observation checklist, questionnaire, and tests. The result of this research revealed that the implementation of CALL gave a positive effect on the students' achievement and broaden students' experience in learning English based on authentic context. Moreover, the students also presented positive responses toward the used of CALL in the English teaching-learning process.

Abstract

Abstrak: Kegiatan PKM ini bertujuan untuk menciptakan siswa yang kompeten dalam keterampilan bahasa Inggris melalui metode pengajaran yang menyenangkan di SDIT Bina Insan Cendekia, Pasuruan yang mana di kota tersebut terdapat tingkat pernikahan dini dan pengangguran yang tinggi. Diketahui dari hasil data yang didapatkan bahwa motivasi belajar masyarakat di daerah tersebut sangat rendah sehingga mengakibatkan dampak yang buruk bagi kesejahteraan penduduk di daerah tersebut. Maka dari itu, tim PKM merancang kegiatan PKM yaitu menggunakan lagu dan cerita rakyat untuk menghidupkan motivasi belajar Bahasa Inggris siswa-siswi usia dini menggunakan lagu-lagu populer dan cerita rakyat Indonesia yang diterjemahkan ke dalam bahasa Inggris dan ditampilkan dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang mewakili kearifan lokal Indonesia. Hasil pelatihan ini telah mampu meningkatkan Bahasa Inggris siswa dari 60 ke 81. Kegiatan PKM ini telah menguntungkan siswa karena mereka memiliki kesempatan untuk menyimak dan membawakan lagu dan cerita rakyat dalam bahasa Inggris serta memotivasi mereka untuk berlatih bahasa Inggris mereka lebih aktif dan sering. Selain itu, kegiatan PKM ini juga memberikan insight bagi guru untuk lebih mengeksplorasi dan mengimplementasikan metode pengajaran Bahasa Inggris yang menyenangkan bagi anak-anak sehingga terbangunlah motivasi dan semangat belajar generasi muda.  Abstract:  This PKM activity aims to create students’ English language skills through fun teaching methods at SDIT Bina Insan Cendekia, Pasuruan which is an area with high rates of early marriage and unemployment. It is known from the data obtained that the learning motivation of the people in the area is very low, resulting in a bad impact on the welfare of the population in the area. Therefore, the team designed PKM activities, namely using songs and folklore to revive the motivation to learn English for early childhood students using popular songs and Indonesian folk tales which were translated into English and displayed in English learning that represented local wisdom. This PKM activity can improve students' English competence from 60 to 81. This PKM activity has benefited the students because they had the opportunity to listen and perform song and folklore in English and motivated and promoted them to learn and improve their English skills more often. In addition, this activity also provides insight for teachers to further explore and implement fun English teaching methods for children so that motivation and enthusiasm for learning is built for the younger generation.

Abstract

Pengabdian Masyarakat “Peningkatan Grammar parts of speech dengan menggunakan aplikasi Quizizz di MAN Kota Blitar” dilaksanakan untuk meningkatkan penguasaan grammar siswa di MAN Kota Blitar Khususnya Noun, Pronouns, Adjectives, Verbs, Adverbs, Prepositions, Conjunctions, dan Interjections yang masih  kurang. Berdasarkan hasil Pre-test yang dilaksanakan pada hari Kamis, 19 Agustus 2021 diketahui bahwa  penguasaan Grammar (Parts of speech) siswa di MAN Kota Blitar yaitu 61. 81. Nilai tersebut masih rendah dibandingkan standard minimal pencapaian  siswa yaitu (75.00). Pelatihan  ini  dilaksanakan  setiap hari Kamis mulai tanggal  19 Agustus 2021  sampai dengan  21 Oktober 2021 yang bertempat di  MAN Kota Blitar dan diikuti oleh 47 siswa.  Pelatihan ini dilaksanakan dengan  langkah langkah sebagai berikut: Pre-test, Pelatihan Grammar Parts of Speech yang  terdiri dari 8 meeting dengan menggunakan aplikasi Quizizz, Post-test, dan pemberian Reward dan Sertifikat bagi 6 siswa terbaik dalam Pelatihan. Hasil dari Pelatihan ini telah mampu meningkatkan penguasaan grammar parts of speech siswa dari 61.81 ke 83.36. dari hasil tersebut penulis menyarankan agar guru dan siswa  bisa memakai Aplikasi Quizizz untuk mengajar atau  belajar Bahasa Inggris Khususnya Grammar dengan menyenangkan baik  di sekolah maupun di rumah.
