Abstract

The practice of developing minimalist residential design in South Kuta is increasingly being accepted massively in Balinese society. The residential design carries the values ??of modernity and is independent of the environmental context and values ??of Balinese culture. Its physical appearance is geometric, simple, clean and without ornamentation. The minimalist residential development and acceptance is contrary to the Bali Provincial Regulation No. 05 of 2005 concerning Architectural Buildings which require all buildings including residential buildings to display Balinese style. Massive acceptance of this residence has implications in the dimensions of Balinese environmental, social and cultural identity. The research objective is to uncover the ideology behind developing and accepting minimalist housing in South Kuta; and reveal its implications for Balinese culture. For this purpose, the research approach used is the Cultural Studies and Design Studies approach. The type of data collected is qualitative data which is then analyzed by interpretive qualitative analysis methods. To understand and interpret data, deconstruction theory, semiotics and identity theory are used. The results of the study revealed that there are three ideologies behind developing and accepting minimalist occupancy in the middle of South Kuta society are capitalist, materialistic and functional-rationalist ideologies. The implication of the receipt of this residence in the community is the chaos of traditional residential values ??and deprivation of Balinese identity. Keywords: Ideology, minimalist architecture, functionalism-rationalism.

Abstract

Lumbung or granary is a building that serves as a place to store rice. In some houses in the Sading Traditional Village, the granary is one of the buildings which is generally located near the kitchen. However, at present, this granary in Sading Traditional Village has changed its function and architecture as part of the dynamics of modern life. Seeing this condition, it is necessary to conduct research on the architecture of the barn in Sading Traditional Village. The purpose of this study was to determine the form of change, the causes and meanings contained in the phenomenon of changing the function and architecture of the granary in Balinese houses in Sading Traditional Village. The method used in this research is a qualitative approach with the perspective of cultural studies. The results showed that there was a change in the function of the barn which was previously only a place to store rice, but now the function of storing rice is only as a symbol, while other functions are mostly used as a multipurpose room such as a place to entertain guests during religious ceremonies, a place to relax and other activities. While the architectural changes lie in the materials, decorations and others that follow current developments. The main cause is the livelihoods of the people of the Adat Sading Village who no longer work as farmers. Besides that, it is due to ideological factors and beliefs, economics and the development of science and technology. The meanings contained in these changes include religious, aesthetic, image and cultural preservation. Keywords: Change, Function, Architecture, Granary, meaning

Abstract

AbstractEnvironmental issue has been a prominent concern lately.Global warming has demonstrated many forms of climaticchange on earth. A notion for a green revolution is launchedto ease pressure caused by these climatic changes as well asvarious environmental degradations that inevitably take placeon a daily basis. Being part of the world community, Bali is notexcluded from these global conditions. The acceleration of Bali’sgrowth due to the increasing number of tourist visits cannotprevent changes on land utilization. Land has been treatedas a commodity. This situation has in return poisoned Bali’ssocial capital heading towards an inclining attitude favoringeconomic profits more than the tangible as well as symbolicmeanings space and the natural environment may have. A localwisdom that aims at maintaining space and its environment isdefeated by a goal to obtain financial advantages. This shift isinevitable. But how could it be controlled? In responding to thisquery, Spatial Plan for Bali No 16 Year 2009 has been instigatedto govern and manage matters relating to land uses and theenvironment. For these roles, this regulation deserves ourrespect and conformance.

Abstract

Abstract The city of Singaraja is an old town in Bali that has a complex numerous cultural heritage, including the Dutch corridor. It was built after Durch imperialism invaded Bali in 1846. Moreover, the colonial government also constructed public facilities, such as offices, commercial buildings, public services, and houses. Since the city was targetted as a tourist destination by local government, the area has been significantly modified; even some public facilities have been demolished. The study aims to determine the façade typology of colonial buildings and their evolution. Certain causal factors have already been identified. The objective of the study is to determine conservation policy for this corridor. Theories of conservation and spatial restructuring have been used to inform data analysis and synthesis. The research suggests three major typologies of such facades. These arethe original facade (Type A), a partial change (Type B), and a complete change (Type C). Demographic  factors, physical environment, and new cultural elements are considered as determining factors that encourage changes to Type B and Type C; whereas new elements occur in Type A. Consequently, techniques for physical conservation, preservation, restoration, and reconstruction are suggested. Whenever possible, restoration is supported by finance and policy initiatives. The study concludes that old buildings need to be supported by government intervention: legal protection and penalties, loans and subsidies, adaptively-reused development, and appropriate planning. Keywords: conservation, colonial building’ façade, the Dutch Line AbstrakKota Singaraja merupakan salah satu kota lama yang memiliki beberapa peninggalan budaya, di antaranya Jalur Belanda. Abstract

Abstract-Deconstruction is a method, a thought as well as a theory created by Jacques Derrida, a philosopher and critic of French literature. Derrida himself was reluctant to determine exactly what deconstruction is. Derrida only mentions what is not, not what is yes. However, the thought that is currently on the decline is actually attracting the attention of architects so that his fame is revived. If you follow Derrida's way of thinking surely no one will be able to explain what deconstruction is, because once he explains that the deconstruction revealed is not deconstruction. To better recognize and understand the strategy of deconstruction in architecture, the way Bennedikt should be imitated, as a method of analyzing architectural works using the perspective of deconstruction. In this paper we will try to read an architectural work, using Bennedikt's method. The work that will be the object of reading is Puri Agung Karangasem. The main objective to be obtained through this paper is to find out whether the work can be classified into deconstruction architecture, to deepen the understanding of deconstruction itself and at the same time train sensitivity in thoroughly reviewing an architectural work through an observation angle.
