Abstract

Employability skills should be a necessity for every TVET graduate. The need for the employability skills is very important in order to prepare TVET graduates in entering the labor market. The purpose of this study is: (1) to verify indicators of employability skills needed by TVET graduates and, (2) to produce proposals for employability skills frameworks for TVET graduates. This article reviews various relevant literature in order to explore the needs of appropriate employability skills. The results of the literature review show the employabilty skills needed by TVET sorted according to rank, namely; Social Skills, Knowledge in the Field of Engineering, Communication Skills, Information and Technology Skills, Management Skills, Creative and Innovative, Problem Solving and Critical Thinking. The implications of this literature review provide information and recommend a set of frameworks for academics to improve the employability skills of TVET graduates.

Abstract

The Open Educational Resource (OER) is a source of digital learning materials that can be accessed, used, and distributed by everyone and is copyright licensed. This study aims to conduct a systematic library review in investigating the impact of Open Educational Resource (OER) implementation on student learning outcomes, the impact of OER on costs for students and learning challenges using OER. The method used in this study is Systematic Literature Review (SLR). This paper presents a publication review paper (2015-2020) or the last 5 years on OER. The article search process uses search techniques using the keywords OER (Open Educational Resource), Open Educational, and MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course) on those from reputable article databases. The selected article is then sorted by the inclusion criteria process and the findings are synthesized to answer the problem formulation. The findings suggest that the effectiveness of OER learning and conventional textbooks has no significant differences, both of which have the same learning outcomes. In terms of costs, OER has an impact on saving students’ money. The challenge of learning in the future is the need for intensive support for teachers so that there is no longer a gap in teacher understanding related to OER. The role of librarians is required to collaborate in developing, modifying, and distributing OER, as well as in advocating to support the appropriate use of OER between teachers, students, and institutions. Research has implications as a strong foundation in designing and implementation strategies related to OER in education.

Abstract

Employability skills are the skills that a person must have to get a job, stay in work, and be able to achieve success in their career. This study aims to develop a model of specific employability skills framework for machine operators. The research design used is the mixed methods, a study that combines the quantitative and qualitative methods and convergent parallel strategy in the data mixing process. The research finding is 14 identified frameworks of employability skills, including (1) basic skills: communicating, listening; (2) self-quality: attendance, collaboration, responsibility, honesty, flexibility, empathy; (3) thinking skills: creativeness, problem-solving; (4) management: self-management, planning; (5) system and technology: production flow system, and mastery of job field concept. Industries demand that basic skills have to be possessed by machine operators to be and self-quality as the priority to recruited as prospective skilled workers. Thinking skills, management, and system and technology are better if developed in their future workplace.

Abstract

Pemberian pakan dengan cara ditabur secara manual oleh orang sambil berjalan mengelilingi kolam untuk mendekati gerombolan ikan, menjadi tidak efektif karena dapat menguras waktu dan tenaga terutama bagi pembudidaya yang memiliki banyak kolam. Perancangan prototipe kapal remote control pemberi pakan dilakukann untuk memberikan solusi dalam meningkatkan efektifitas dan efisiensi proses pemberian pakan pada benih ikan usia 11-18 hari. Sebagai tahap awal penelitian, proses perancangan dilakukan untuk menentukan ukuran utama prototipe kapal yang dapat mambawa muatan maksimum pakan sebear 2 kg dan kecepatan operasi sebesar 0,81 m/s . Dari hasil perancangan dengan metoda perbandingan (skala 1:25) dan beberapa langkah modifikasi didapat ukuran utama kapal yaitu L=0,7m, B=0,22m, H=0,1m dan T=0,05, Cb=0,66 dengan displacement sebesar 5,67 kg. Hambatan kapal dihitung menggunakan metode holtrop. Pada kecepatan operasi kapal sebesar 0,81 m/s didapat hambatan sebesar 0,337 N. Dengan demikian efektif daya (EHP) dapat ditentukan sebesar 0,237 watt.

Abstract

Based on the visual inspection and measurement, bulging was found on the Sewage Tank. There are cracks found in some areas of welded joint on the tank wall. The suitable recommendation needs to be found in order the equipment to be operated safely and reliably. The finite element simulation is aimed at estimating the loading experienced by the tank prior to the damage, and providing recommendation for repair,  replacement or other suitable options. In order to estimate the cause of bulging, several  steps have been carried out. The sewage tank is modelled using a finite-element based software, under a normal up to the maximum allowable loading condition, using a linear-static analysis. Based on finite element simulation, under normal loading  of 0.15 bar with 6 mm thickness, the tank is considered safe with a safety factor is 2.87, compared with a minimum specified Yield Strength of material of 267 MPa. Whereas, under the high loading of 0.4 bar, the safety factor drops to 1.50. Due to estimated loading case that caused the permanent deformation, some of the tank walls experience tensile residual stress. This condition is considered unsafe. Therefore, removal of the residual stress is required.

Abstract

Bunikasih Rural community and the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Subang took the initiative to build the Bunikasih Micro Hydro Power Plant (MHP) in 2013, with financial support from CRS BNI Go Green. The Bunikasih MHP is situated in the Bunikasih area of Cupunagara Village, Cisalak District, Subang Regency, West Java Province, Indonesia. The Bunikasih MHP was initially utilized to supply electricity for the Bunikasih Rural community, which at the time was off grid. In 2018, an earthquake occurred therefore it made MHP Bunikasih malfunctioning. The Engineering Faculty team and the Bunikasih community undertook Focus Group Discussion/FGD activities prior to the MHP Bunikasih damage survey. The results of the FGD activities are the revitalization of the Bunikasih MHP so that it can operate again. It was also proposed that MHP Bunikasih is to be utilized to support the increase in the processing of agricultural production. The survey revealed that Bunikasih MHP suffered heavy damage. The channel was cracked and broken. The penstocks was bent. The roof of the turbine house was collapsed. The generator and electrical controls were fried. Damage to civil buildings can be repaired by making a new building structure in the damaged part. The bent pen stock is repaired by cutting the bent part and replacing it with a new pipe. A new roof is installed to the turbine house. The generator and control system are fixed and new components are installed. In general, all components of the Bunikasih MHP that were damaged can be repaired and revitalized. The cost for the revitalization is Rp. 213,700,000.00.
