Abstract

As a reformer in the world of Islamic education, Muhammad Abduh found problems that he considered destructive and the factors that led to the lagging behind of Islamic education from the West, such as problems with the curriculum, teaching methods, and education for women. By looking at these problems, this scientific work aims to find out the thoughts of Muhammad Abduh in his renewal of Islamic education, so that it can be applied in the world of contemporary education which is full of problems of Islamic values and morals. As for the writing of this scientific paper, the author uses a qualitative method with a library approach that is sourced from the works of Muhammad Abduh such as Risalah Tauhid, other sources in the form of books or articles covering Muhammad Abduh's thoughts in the field of Islamic Education. Then, the data obtained qualitatively will be reviewed and analyzed to get the conclusion. From the results of the study, the author concludes that he is an adherent of Tajdid or "Reformer" Islamic education. According to him, education is a very important tool in order to create a generation that is ready to change, both from Western influences or changes from Islamic influence itself in order to be able to answer the challenges of the times. So, from this study, the authors found that there is relevance to the current educational context which, if applied, is expected to be able to bring our nation to a life that has Islamic values.
