Abstract

This was a preliminary study that aimed to describe the reproductive performance of buffalo in South Sulawesi. The study was conducted in three different districts; Tana Toraja (R1), Enrekang (R2), and Wajo (R3). The number of buffalo involved in the present study was 147, 149, and 152 in R1, R2, and R3, respectively. Primary data were collected with the help of a questionnaire in interviewing the farmers and secondary data was obtained from livestock services in each region. The results of this study showed that the age at first buffalo heifers calved was >3.5 years; 91.9%, 71.9%, and 54.2% in R1, R2, and R3, respectively. The remaining buffalo heifers were calving ≤3.5 years of age. Days to first breeding after calving differed significantly (P<0.05) at different districts. In the region of R3 the number of buffalo bred within six months after calving was significantly (P<0.05) higher than in R2 and R1 (67.2% vs 38.0% and 56.6%). Furthermore, the number of buffalo first bred >12 months was significantly (P<0.05) higher in R2 in comparison to R1 and R3 (41.0% vs 20.9% and 19.5%). Moreover, calving interval within 18 months differed significantly (P<0.05) at different districts. In the region of R3, the number of buffalo with calving interval within 18 months was 56.3%; significantly (P<0.05) higher than in R1 and R2; 47.5% and 44.6%, respectively. In conclusion, reproductive performance of buffalo in South Sulawesi based on primary data collected from the farmers showed much better in the region of R3 in comparison to R1 and R2. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the reproductive performance in the two regions.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the slaughtering age of goats on goat bone gelatin quality. The study was conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD). Data showing influence are further analyzed using the Duncan test. Treatment consisted of age-old 1-year goat bone (T1), 2-year-old goat bone (T2), and 3-year-old goat bone (T3). Each treatment was repeated 3 times. The results showed that the younger the goat age (1 year), the higher the value of yield, protein content, water content, yellowish color level (b), and viscosity. While the fat content, ash content, the level of brightness (L), and redness (a) in the colors show variable results. Each parameter showed a significant effect (P <0.05). Conclusion, 1-year-old goat leg bone gelatin with acetic acid pretreatment (CH3COOH) concentration of 5% has good quality compared to ages 2 and 3 years.

Abstract

Abstract

PKM Livestock Farmers Group in Lempang Village Barru District has been conducted on two partnersnamely Sikapa Livestock Group and Livestock Group Padaelo in Tanete Riaja District which lasts from July to September 2018. The technology applied by the team is the manufacture of UKKMB blocks feed supplement and probiotic fermentation straw on. This activity aims to improve the skills of members of livestock groups in the application of livestock technology, especially in the manufacture of feed. The productivity of Bali cattle needs to be improved through the provision of quality feed as one of the problems found. The implementation method is in the form of training (theory and practicum), action review, mentoring and application of feed products to Bali cattle in a cage. Making modified feed supplements in the form of UMMB into Urea Water Collagen Coconut Multinutrient Block (UKKMB) and probiotic fermented rice straw is the main product tried in Bali cattle at home. The provision of block supplement feed in Bali cattle increases appetite and feed consumption. The results of the activity showed that UKKMB and probiotic fermented rice straw could solve the problem of the availability of feed in the cage and the increase in cattle weight.

Abstract

The large amount of poultry egg production in South Sulawesi caused the most of poultry egg seller moved their wares to some of the regions including the destination of Central Sulawesi. The transportation process was allegedly causing the decreasing of quality and quantity of eggs such as egg weight, yolk index, albumin index to location and height of the rack arrangement in the truck. The aim of thestudy was to observe and determine the effect of the location and height of the rack arrangement in the truck during transportation from Sidrap Regency, South Sulawesi to Palu City, Central Sulawesi. This research was conducted experimentally using a completely randomized design (CRD) with a factorial pattern of 3 x 5 with 3 repetitions, factor A was the location of the container in the truck diagonally and factor B was the height of the rack. The results showed that the rack location resulted in a shrinkage of 0.7%, the yolk index had no effect, while the albumin index had an effect.
