Abstract

This study aims to knowing the micromorphology and histomorphometry of the sumba ongole cattle muscles. The sample used was 6 muscle samples consisted of the longissimus dorsi and bicep femoris muscles taken from three sumba ongole cattle slaughtered at the West Sumba slaughterhouse. Muscle tissue was fixed using 10% formalin and made histological preparations and hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. Histological preparations were observed using a light microscope with objective magnifications of 4, 10, 40, and 100 times. The results showed that the muscle micromorphology in the transverse section consisted of many fascicles formed by muscle fibers with cell nuclei at the edges, connective tissue, and intramuscular fat. Muscles in longitudinal sections are formed by muscle fibers with light dark stripes and connective tissue. The muscle fibers diameter, fascicle diameter and thickness of the connective tissue in the bicep femoris muscle is higher than the longissimus dorsi muscle. In contrast, the number of muscle fibers per fascicle is higher in the longissimus dorsi muscle. Muscle histomorphometry are strongly influenced by anatomical location and function of the muscles, as well as the presence of intramuscular fat.

Abstract

Testis is the male reproductive organ that performs both endocrine and exocrine functions. This study aimed to determine the distribution of carbohydrates in the testis of sumba ongole cattle. The sample consisted of six testis were collected from East Sumba Slaughter House, fixed in formalin 10 %, processed histologically, and continued with AB pH 2,5 - PAS staining. The result showed a weak alcian blue intensity (+) in the tunica albuginea and moderate intensity (++) in the interstitial connective tissue, basement membrane, and connective tissue in the lumen of the seminiferous tubules. A strong intensity (+++) to PAS staining was seen in spermatogonia, spermatocytes, and myoid cells. Spermatids, spermatozoa, and sertoli cells showed a negative reaction (-). In the intertubular area, Leydig cells and fibroblasts showed a strong PAS reaction (+++), connective tissue showed a moderate reaction (++). The intensity of the weak reaction (+) is indicated by the basement membrane of the seminiferous tubules. The variation in the distribution of acidic and neutral carbohydrates in the testis of sumba ongole cattle is correlated with the proliferation of different cell types and steroidogenic activity at various stages of testicular development.

Abstract

Chromolaena odorata, a member of Asteraceae, is a tropical shrub that grows throughout the year and can dominate pastures. The tropical weed is known as a medicinal plant and has the potential as a natural insecticide. For local people in NTT, the crude extract of the leaves is used to treat myasis on the livestock. C. odorata is also used as silage or food alternative for livestock. This study aims to determine the content of bioactive compounds in C. odorata leaves and determine the extract yield value, as scientific validation of local wisdom in NTT. This research began with the collection of fresh C. odorata leaves, extraction by maceration using 70% ethanol as solvent, solvent evaporation, and phytochemical screening. Phytochemical screening showed that the leaf extract of C. odorata from Kupang City contained high amounts of flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, triterpenes and steroids and were tested negative for saponins. The extract yield value is 6.09%, means that the extract contains bioactive compunds in high concentration. Further research needs to be done to find out in more detail the content of secondary metabolites from C. odorata leaves and its activity in promote wound healing on livestock in NTT.

Abstract

Green jungle fowl is one of the endemic animals in Indonesia. One of the distribution areas of green jungle fowl in East Nusa Tenggara is the island of Alor. Until now there has been no research conducted to determine the histological structure of the green jungle fowl so that this study was conducted with the aim of knowing the histological structure and muscle histomorphometry of the green jungle fowl. The research samples were pectoralis and bicep femoris muscles taken from three green jungle fowl in Kalabahi, Alor Regency. Muscle tissue was fixed using 10% formalin, histological preparations were made and stained with hematoxylin and eosin (HE). The results showed that the muscle histomorphology in the transverse section showed that the skeletal muscle of the green jungle fowl was composed of muscle fibers in a polygonal shape with many nuclei at the edges and connective tissue. No intramuscular fat cells were found. In the longitudinal section, it consists of muscle fibers with a light dark line pattern, the cell nucleus is elongated at the edges and connective tissue. The results of muscle histomorphometry, namely the diameter of the muscle fibers, the diameter of the fasciculus and the thickness of the connective tissue in the bicep femoris muscle area were higher than the pectoralis muscle area. The number of muscle fibers in each fasciculus in the bicep pectoralis muscle area is more than in the bicep femoris muscle area. Muscle histomorphometry is influenced by species, breed/race, age, diet, activity level and anatomical location.

Abstract

Abstract

This research is an experimental type of research that uses the RAL method (Completely Randomized Design) with two treatments, namely complete feed in the form of granules (crumbles) and complete feed in the form of pellets (pellets). Each treatment used 35 broiler chickens aged 2 weeks. This study aimed to examine the effect of feed form (crumble and pellet) on growth, carcass weight and digestive tract profile of broiler chickens in the grower to finisher period. From the first day until the age of 12 days (starter period) chicks (DOC) were given complete feed in the form of crumbs. The research data were analyzed by Independent T test using SPSS. The results of data analysis showed that there was a significant effect of treatment (P<0.05) on proventriculus weight and no significant effect (P>0.05) on body weight, carcass weight, ventriculus weight, and weight and length of the small intestine of broiler chickens. It can be concluded that statistically, in the grower period, feed particle size had little effect on growth and carcass weight and digestive tract profile. However, empirically, the carcass weight of the granular group (807 g) versus the pellet group (858 g) was quite different so that economically, giving complete feed in the form of pellets was more profitable.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of adding Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot flour at several levels (dose) in complete feed on feed consumption, ration conversion, growth (body weight gain) and red blood cell profile in broiler chickens. The research material used 100 chickens. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments where each treatment was filled with 25 animals/treatment. Parameters observed were ration consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion and broiler blood cell profile. The data obtained will be presented in the form of a table and described descriptively. The results showed that the addition of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot flour had an effect on body weight gain but did not show a significant difference between the treatment groups. The addition of BSF maggot flour did not affect the red blood cell profile where the total erythrocyte, hemoglobin, hematocrit and erythrocyte index showed normal values. The conclusion in this study was that the addition of maggot flour to commercial rations affected the degree of feed palatability, thus affecting the level of consumption and erythrocyte profile at the beginning of rearing and the addition of protein in the finisher phase had no effect on feed efficiency.
