Abstract

The preparing of red yeast rice or angkak using strain Monascus purpureus was carried out on various kinds of rice which have differences in their stickiness, namely Cisadane, IR 64, and IR 36. The aim of the research was to know the content of the angkak pigment and the yield of red yeast rice. The red yeast rice product obtained was observed on basis of the intensity of red pigment and yellow pigment. To measure the content of pigment, the angkak powder was extracted by the use of methanol. By using spectrophotometer the content of the pigment could be measured with 390 nm wave lengths for the yellow pigment and 500 nm for the red pigment. Meanwhile, the yield of red yeast rice was evaluated as the yield percentage. The result showed that the highest pigment content for yellow and red pigments was on the IR 36 variety. Among the three rice varieties used, it should be noted that the highest yield of angkak was on IR 36.

Abstract

One way to overcome the problems of banana skin waste is to use it as raw material for the manufacture of nata through fermentation by the bacteria Acetobacter xylinum. The purpose of this experiment is to study the effect of the use of some waste of various banana skins on the physicochemical properties of nata produced. The design of experiments was conducted using Completely Randomized Design divided into four treatments, namely KP1  use of kepok kuning banana skin, KP2 use of raja banana skin, KP3 use ambon banana skin and KP4 use of kluthuk banana skin. Each treatment was conducted with three replications. Medium starter and fermentation made use of medium Hassids and Barker which had been modified with N sources of ZA, and vinegar table. Testing the physicochemical properties of nata produced was done through the measurements of the thickness, weight, yield, texture, and water content. The results showed that differences in the types of banana skin waste had an effect on the physicochemical properties of nata produced. The use of ambon banana skin produced the best results on the physicochemical properties of nata.

Abstract

The wider community, especially mothers and adolescents, have not been aware of the importance of using hygienic cosmetic products. Microbial contamination in cosmetics can occur due to the use of unhygienic applicators and the exchange of cosmetics between users. In addition, improper cosmetics storage in warm and humid places triggers microbial growth. Based on this, it is necessary to educate cosmetic microbial contamination of PKK RW 09 Bumi Antariksa Residence Madiun. The activities carried out through lectures, interactive discussions, consultations and assistance related to the use of cosmetics material and storage are good to minimize microbial contamination. Educational activities have succeeded in increasing partner knowledge about the correct handling of cosmetics including the use, the expiration of cosmetics and its storage and increasing knowledge concerning the prevention of microbial contamination in cosmetics including the correct handling of applicators and the use of cosmetics together. Keywords—: education; microbial contamination; cosmetics; bumi antariksa.

Abstract

The lack of facilities plays an important role in realizing a clean and healthy life, but it is not an obstacle for the participants and other school members of SDK Santo Bavo to be able to habituate their daily healthy lifestyle. The results of the initial survey conducted by SDK Santo Bavo students had never been given any education or counseling on the importance of clean and healthy living habits. Based on this, it is necessary to do it through counseling and training on PHBS (Healthy Day-to-Life Behavior) for students in and other residents in TKK and SDK Santo Bavo. The activity is carried out through counseling and training on how to wash hands properly with boiled water of betel leaf as a substitute for soap which has antibacterial properties. Online counseling activities through instructional videos have succeeded in increasing partners' knowledge about making green betel leaf (Piper betle L) boiled water which has antibacterial properties and steps on how to wash with boiled green betel leaf water as a substitute for soap (CTPS) which is good and correct. Keywords—:daily healthy behavior, green betel, antibacterial, learning videos

Abstract

Hasil studi fitokimia dan uji klinis berbagai literatur dari berbagai jurnal ilmiah nasional, jurnal internasional dan buku referensi online menunjukkan bahwa sembilan tanaman obat unggul Indonesia sambiloto (Andrographis paniculata Ness) sebagai antikanker, jambu biji (Psidium guajava L) sebagai antivirus demam berdarah, jati belanda (Guazuma ulmifolia Lmk var. tomentosa K. Schum) sebagai antihiperlipidemia, cabe jawa (Piper retrofractum Vahl.) sebagai androgenik, temulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb.) sebagai antihiperlipidemia, jahe merah (Zingiberis officinale Rosc. Var Rubrum) sebagai antikanker, kunyit (Curcuma domestica Val.) sebagai antihiperlipidemia, mengkudu (Morinda citrifolia L.) sebagai antidiabetes dan salam (Syzygium polyanthum) sebagai antidiabetes.Kata kunci: tumbuhan obat unggul, Indonesia, fitokimia, uji klinis

Abstract

Cellulolytic fungi have an important role for the largest material flow in the biosphere. Trichoderma fungi are ubiquitous and have the ability to degrade cellulose. The study was conducted to isolate dan screen Trichoderma cellulolytic fungi from soil heaps of some organic waste. Soil samples were taken from soil heaps of some organic waste to isolate Trichoderma cellulolytic fungi. The sampling method is carried out randomly from top soil layers of organic waste litter (bagasse, sugar cane leaf, rice straw, and garbage). Isolation and screening of Trichoderma fungi are determined based on observations of macroscopic and microscopic characteristics referring to the key of fungal determination. Cellulolytic ability of Trichoderma isolates was carried out by growing on Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (CMC) media as a single carbon source by measuring the diameter of the colony and the diameter of the clear zone formed. There were 7 Trichoderma fungal isolates  that showed cellulolytic activity. Based on clear zone formation, Trichoderma harzianum showed highest cellulolytic than Trichoderma viride.

Abstract

The purslane plant has been designated by the World Health Organization as one of the most widely used medicinal plants in the world and is known as "Global Panacea". The diversity of purslane plants from the genus Portulaca amounts to about 40-100 species found in the tropics and in areas that have four seasons. Candidiasis is one of the most common fungal infections in humans. Candidiasis is an opportunistic infection caused by excessive growth of the genus Candida fungus, 70% of Candida infections are caused by Candida albicans. Research on the antifungal activity of the purslane plant P. grandiflora is still rarely done. This study aims to determine the effective dose of anticandidal activity of purslane herb (P. grandiflora) against the C. albicans test microbe. This research is an experimental study that includes in vitro biological testing with the disc diffusion method, namely testing the inhibition of the extract of P. grandiflora 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100% against the growth of the fungus C. albicans. The antifungal activity test was carried out by observing the diameter of the inhibition zone formed around the paper disk. Anti-candida activity test of purslane herb (P. grandiflora) magenta variety extract showed that there was a zone of inhibition that was significantly different between all treatment groups. The measurement of the inhibition zone in the treatment group with a concentration of 20 to 100%, respectively, was 6.33±20; 6.86±13; 7.59±21; 8.33±33; 9.66±21; 25.69±98, thus indicating a moderate inhibition category for the growth of C. albicans.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The results of reference studies in journals related to the potential of Trichoderma spp fungi in the application of sustainable agroecosystems can be reported that the best solution to overcome food safety and environmental problems is the application of biological control using Trichoderma spp. Its antagonistic properties with plant pathogenic microorganisms make it more reliable for use in agriculture. Several research results reported that Trichoderma spp is known to have the ability to attack other fungi so that it has the potential as a potential biological control agent. Secondary metabolites secreted by Trichoderma spp. has proven its role in suppressing the growth of pathogenic microorganisms and stimulating plant growth. Abstract

Desa Ngunut berada di wilayah Kecamatan Kawedanan, Kabupaten Magetan yang sebagian besar penduduknya menggantungkan hidup dari bercocok tanam. Berdasarkan data dari segi ekonomi, sebanyak 27% warga Desa Ngunut, Kecamatan Kawedanan merupakan keluarga pra sejahtera, sehingga diperlukan upaya untuk dapat meningkatkan perekonomian keluarga di wilayah mitra melalui pemberdayaan potensi warga. Salah satu upaya peningkatan perekonomian melalui pemanfaatan tanaman sereh yang berpotensi dikembangkan untuk mengembangkan usaha perekonomian dari hulu ke hilir akan tetapi belum menjadi komoditas di wilayah Desa Ngunut. Hal tersebut dikarenakan warga belum memahami manfaat dan potensi ekonomi dari tanaman sereh. Oleh karena itu kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilakukan melalui penyuluhan untuk memperkenalkan manfaat dan potensi ekonomi tanaman sereh (Cymbopogon nardus). Luaran yang dicapai adalah peningkatan pengetahuan warga Desa Ngunut, Kecamatan Karangrejo, Kabupaten Magetan mengenai tanaman sereh (Cymbopogon nardus) yang dapat dimanfaatkan untuk meningkatkan perekonomian warga.

Luaran yang dicapai adalah peningkatan pengetahuan dan pemahaman secara keseluruhan dari 68,67% menjadi 84,33% pada warga Desa Ngunut, Kecamatan Karangrejo, Kabupaten Magetan mengenai tanaman sereh (Cymbopogon nardus) yang dapat dimanfaatkan untuk meningkatkan perekonomian warga
