Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify and determine the heavy metal content of lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) towards eyebrow pencil registered and not registered by the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM). This research was conducted in several markets in Surabaya. Twelve eyebrow pencil items were investigated for lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd). Simple reagents, included HCl, NaOH, KI, Na2S2O3 and NH4OH were used to identify the presence of these heavy metal first. The study results showed that samples of eyebrow pencil registered and unregistered by BPOM RI after being tested turned out to contain lead and cadmium in a range of 1.092-5,834 mg/kg and 0,054-0.243 mg/kg, respectively. The content is still within what is required based on the regulations of BPOM RI, < 20 mg/kg for lead content and < 5 mg/kg for cadmium content. In short, all the sample of eyebrow pencil contained lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) within what is required based on the regulations of BPOM RI.

Abstract

UV solar radiation intensively caused damage to human skin. Purple sweet potato leaves (Ipomoea batatas (L.)) contain a high anthocyanin component which has a chromophore group with conjugated double bonds, thus absorbing electromagnetic radiation in UV and Visible wavelength, so it can be used as a natural source of sunscreen. The aim of this research was conducted to determine the SPF value of ethanolic extract of purple sweet potato leaves (Ipomoea batatas (L.)) Antin-3 variety from two different drying methods namely freeze-drying for 48 hours (EFD) and oven for 24 hours (EOV). The results of this study indicate that Antin-3 leaf extract (EFD) at a concentration (ppm) 900; 700; 500; 300; 100 respectively are SPF 30; 25; 17; 11 and 4, while (EOV) respectively are SPF 13; 10; 7; 4 and 1. Effectivity sunscreen represented as SPF values, above 15 were categorized as ultra protection; between 8 and 15 as maximal protection; between 6 and 8 as extra protection; between 2 and 4 as minimal protection. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the method of freeze-drying even though it requires a longer time and costs more expensive than the oven method but provides protection for sunscreen 2.5 times higher.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi logam berat dalam produk lipstik yang beredar di pasar Darmo Trade Center (DTC) Surabaya. Dua belas sampel lipstik diteliti untuk mengetahui kandungan logam timbal (Pb). Empat reagen sederhana, meliputi HCl, NaOH, KI dan NH4OH digunakan untuk mengidentifikasi adanya logam berat ini. Dari dua belas sampel lipstik, enam diantaranya memiliki nomor registrasi BPOM dan enam sampel lainnya tidak memiliki nomor registrasi BPOM. Dan masing-masing keenam sampel ini terdiri dari tiga merk berbeda yang dibeli dari tiga toko berbeda, dalam penelitian ini disebut varian. Identifikasi Pb menunjukkan bahwa dari enam sampel lipstik yang memiliki nomor registrasi BPOM, empat diantaranya positif mengandung Pb. Sedangkan enam sampel lain yang tidak memiliki nomor registrasi BPOM, dua diantaranya positif mengandung cemaran logam Pb.Kata kunci: Logam berat, Timbal, Darmo Trade Center (DTC) Surabaya, Reagen sederhana

Abstract

ABSTRAKEkstrak daun ubi jalar ungu ( Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lamk Varietas Antin 3 mengandung flavonoid yang dapat digunakan sebagai bahan baku sediaan tabir surya. Sediaan tabir surya penting untuk digunakan karena dapat melindungi kulit dari paparan radiasi sinar UV A dan UV B dari sinar matahari yang dapat merusak kulit dan memicu terjadinya penuaan dini pada kulit. Agar dapat menjadi bahan baku yang terukur efektifitas dan keamanannya maka diperlukan standarisasi ekstrak, salah satunya standarisasi non spesifik kadar abu. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk membandingkan kadar abu ekstrak daun yang dikeringkan secara freeze drying dan oven, karena keduanya terbukti mengandung kadar flavonoid yang berbeda. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pada ekstrak daun Antin 3 yang dikeringkan secara freeze drying suhu -45 0C selama 48 jam dan oven suhu 400C selama 24 jam memiliki kadar abu total adalah 6.9 % dan 7.3 % sedangkan kadar abu tidak larut asam adalah1.6 % dan 0.9 %.Kata kunci: Ekstrak daun Antin 3, freeze drying, oven, kadar abu total, kadar abu tidak larut asam ABSTRACTEthanolic extract of purple sweetpotatoes (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lamk Antin 3 variety contain flavonoids. Flavonoids has sunscreen effectivity. Antin 3 extract need to be standardized, in order to be a raw material ofsunscreen. Nonspecific standardization can measures the effectiveness and safety of the extract. Sunscreen can protect the skin harmfull effect of UV A and UV B radiation from sunlight. The study aims to provide data the effect of Antin 3 leaf drying method dried freeze (-45 0C) during 48 hours and oven (40 0C) during 24 hours on its ash content. This study finds that freeze dried Antin 3 leaf have total ash content and insoluable acid ash content respectively is 6.9 % and 7.3 %, while oven Antin 3 leaf respectively is 1.6 % and 0.9 %.Keywords: Antin 3 leaf extract, freeze dried, oven, total ash content, insoluable acid ash content.

Abstract

ABSTRAKLipstik merupakan salah satu kosmetik yang paling banyak dan hampir setiap hari digunakan oleh wanita. Timbal adalah salah satu cemaran logam berat yang terdapat dalam lipstik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untukmengetahui kandungan logam berat timbal dalam lipstik yang teregistrasi dan tidak teregistrasi mengguanakan Spektrofotometer Serapan Atom (SSA). Preparasi sampel menggunakan destruksi basah dengan aqua regia. Sampel lipstik yang digunakan sebanyak 24 sampel lipstik yang diambil di wilayah Kota Surabaya, dimana 12 sampel memiliki nomor registrasi BPOM dan 12 sampel tidak memiliki nomor registrasi BPOM. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya kandungan logam berat yang melebihi persyaratan BPOM pada semua sampel lipstikdengan rata-rata kadar 108.9517 ppm untuk lipstik yang teregistrasi dan 102.7183 ppm untuk lipstik yang tidak teregistrasi. Berdasarkan uji Mann-Whitney U diketahui bahwa tidak ada beda antara kadar Pb pada lipstik yang teregistrasi dengan lipstik yang tidak teregistrasi dengan nilai α= 0,05.Kata kunci: Timbal (Pb), Lipstik, Surabaya, Registrasi, Spektrofotometri Serapan Atom. ABSTRACTLipstick is one of the most widely used cosmetics every day by women. Lead is one of the heavy metal contaminants found in lipstick. This study aims to determine the heavy metal content of lead in registered lipstickand not registered using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). Sample preparation using wet destruction with aqua regia. Lipstick samples were used as many as 24 lipstick samples taken in the Surabaya area, where 12 samples had BPOM registration numbers and 12 samples did not have BPOM registration numbers. The results showed that there was a heavy metal content that exceeded BPOM requirements for all lipstick samples with an average level of 108.9517 ppm for registered lipstick and 102.7183 ppm for unregistered lipstick. Basedon the Mann-Whitney U test it is known that there is no difference between Pb levels on lipstick registered with lipstick which was not registered with a value of α = 0.05.Keywords: Lead (Pb), Lipstick, Surabaya, Registration, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry..

Abstract

ABSTRAKBedak merupakan salah satu sediaan kosmetik yang banyak dimiliki masyarakat dan merupakan kosmetik dasaratau lumrah dimiliki oleh wanita. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kandungan logam berat timbal dalam produk kosmetik bedak yang beredar di pasar Pengampon Surabaya. Sampel yang digunakan dipreparasi dengan destruksi basah menggunakan aqua regia. Dari kelima sampel bedak, secara keseluruhan sampel mengandung logam timbal, dan tiga diantara melebihi batas yang telah ditetapkan oleh BPOM RI (20 mg/kg). Sampel dengan kode BD1, BD2 dan BD5 dengan nilai cemaran timbal masing-masing sebesar 27,2746 mg/kg; 21,0297 mg/kg; dan 24,2015 mg/kg.Kata kunci: Logam berat, Timbal, Bedak, Aqua Regia, Spektrofotometer Serapan Atom (SSA)ABSTRACTPowder is one of the many cosmetic preparations and cosmetic standard or commonly owned by women. This study aims to analyze the content of lead heavy metals in powder cosmetic products circulating in Pengampon market Surabaya. The sample used was prepared by wet destruction using aqua regia. From five powder samples, the overall sample contained lead metal, of which three outweighed the limits set by the BPOM RI (20 mg/kg). Abstract

Fiber of Borassus flabellifer L. includes agricultural wastes which containing lignocellulose components (hemicellulose and lignin) and high carbohydrate content. Siwalan coir fiber is quite potential to be used as a substrate in producing catalysts. Acid catalyst is one type of catalyst that as an important role in chemical process. This study aims to study the effect of the optimum mass ratio of carbon-KOH in the process of graphite synthesis based on siwalan charcoal so as to produce graphite with the most optimal characteristics, and optimum calcination temperature as a physical activation process in the synthesis of graphite based on siwalan coir fiber charcoal, and determine the time sulfonation which is optimum in producing acid catalysts There are 2 variables used in this study, temperature and sulfonation time. The method of making carbon is done by calcining to decompose the carbon source so that the composition is made according to what has been varied. After forming carbon-KOH composite, then sulfonation is carried out using sulfuric acid. The last step is to carry out the esterification step The process in this study discusses carboxylic acid, WCO (Cooking Oil Waste) and methanol (alcohol group).

Abstract

Pektin merupakan salah satu biopolimer dari asam galakturonat. Pektin dapat diekstrak dari kulit buah pisang. Proses ekstraksi pektin dari kulit pisang dapat dilakukan dengan metode Microwave Assisted Extraction (MAE). Salah satu faktor yang berpengaruh dalam proses ekstraksi pektin dengan metode MAE ini adalah lama waktu ekstraksi. Oleh karena itu, tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui waktu yang optimal saat ekstraksi pektin dari kulit pisang menggunakan metode MAE. Proses ekstraksi dilakukan dengan variasi waktu 5, 10, 15, 20, dan 25 menit. Hasil ekstrak yang diperoleh memiliki karakteristik yang sama untuk setiap variabel. Kondisi optimum diperoleh saat lama waktu ekstraksi 15 menit dengan persen rendemen sebesar 27,55%.

Abstract

Mas banana (Musa acuminata Colla) peel is a type of household waste as well as agricultural waste whose utilization still needs to be improved. In addition, among various types of heavy metals that are dangerous as contaminants in the environment, cadmium metal is a metal that is very dangerous to health even in very small amounts. Therefore, this study aims to not only utilize the waste of Mas banana peel (Musa acuminata Colla) as a biosorbent, but also to determine the optimum conditions needed to reduce cadmium metal which involves several test parameters, namely stirring time, pH and mass of biosorbent. Variations of stirring time used include 10, 20, 30, 35, and 45 minutes; variations in pH used include 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, while variations in the mass of biosorbent used include 0.5; 1; 1.5; 2 and 2.5 grams. The results showed that the optimum conditions were obtained at a mixing time of 35 minutes, pH 5, and a mass of 2 grams of biosorbent with a reduction percentage value of 78.45%. This percentage indicates that Mas banana peel can be used as a natural adsorbent for cadmium metal. In addition, the results of the FT-IR analysis of the Mas banana peel biosorbent showed that Mas banana peel has a functional group that plays a role in the heavy metal adsorption process.

Abstract

Limbah kulit pisang Kepok telah digunakan untuk menghasilkan biosorben melalui proses yang ramah lingkungan. Limbah kulit pisang Kepok dipotong, dicuci, dikeringkan, dihaluskan dan digunakan sebagai biosorben terhadap logam besi. Penentuan konsentrasi logam besi terhadap proses adsorpsi menggunakan spektroskopi serapan atom. Adsorpsi ion besi terhadap adsorben kulit pisang Kepok menggunakan parameter waktu kontak dan pH. Waktu kontak 30 menit dan pH 6 merupakan kondisi yang sesuai untuk adsorpsi besi. Persentase adsorpsi dan kapasitas adsorpsi yang diperoleh berturut-turut sebesar 86,387% dan 1,44 mg/g. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kulit pisang Kepok, sebagai limbah pertanian dan limbah industri rumahan, sangat berpotensi sebagai adsorben untuk menghilangkan logam beracun seperti besi dalam air.
