Abstract

Audio podcast application is one of media which is appropriate for the learner to train their listening. This quasi experimental research was conducted to investigate the contributions of Audio Podcast Application as a teaching media in listening subject. This research examined whether students achieve better in their understanding on listening passage through skill of guessing meaning of listening by using audio podcast than by using conventional teaching media.The research findings showed the implementation of audio podcast application gives advantages for the learners. The data analysis result showed that the students in experimental group achieved better than the students in control group in their listening comprehension tests. It can be explained that the t value on equal variance assumed were 0.000. Then, the distribution of t table on  = 5%: 2 = 2.5 % (2 -Tailed) with degree of freedom (df) n- 2 (44 -2 = 42) were 2.018  It means  that there was differences between the students who utilized audio podcast application and the students who implemented conventional teaching media in comprehending listening passage by students’ guessing meaning skill, of listening.

Abstract

Literacy is one of the important habits in academic life. In order to give a good habit in literacy, it is important to train the young learner as early as possible. During the pandemic covid-19, all of the literacy programs held by education institutions should be implemented at home. It means that the role of parents in order to support literacy programs was needed. This study aimed to investigate the Islamic parental involvement in supporting school-based literacy programs. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive research design. To obtain the data, the researchers used to survey and interview virtually. It involved 60 parents from different backgrounds of knowledge and social status. It also used snowball purposive sampling to select the research subject, because the researcher had considerations, such as the research subjects came from a Muslim background, their children were in elementary school level, etc. Based on the data result, most of the parents gave good feedback and support the school literacy program.

Abstract

Podcasting is being introduced into academic fields as an e-learning tool. The existance of podcasting contributes to help teaching learning activities running well. However, there were difficulties for the students to attain the meaning in listening subject. It was because that listening comprehension is becoming complex process to comprehend spoken language on English Foreign Language learner. This study aimed to investigate the use of audio podcast in achieving listening skill in teaching activities. This study  conducted  as library research using systematic reviews method to find the effectiveness of audio podcast  in teaching listening on all level of students. According to literature reviews, this study revealed the use of audio podcast in teaching listening is effective for the students both in classroom and  out door class

Abstract

Receiving information begins with listening. EFL learners at universities should master listening for academic purposes with appropriate strategies. This article examined the strength of the bottom-up strategy in teaching listening for the academic purpose of the third-semester female students in the Department of English Language Education, the University of Darussalam Gontor, which is a pesantren -based university. This research utilized a quasi-experimental with one group pretest-posttest design. The participants involved 14 who were regarded in English language teaching.  They were tested by pre-and post-treatment listening for academic purposes. The data were analyzed by paired sample t-test. The results showed a significant inequality between the mean score of the pre-test and post-test. The mean score of the post-test of learners was improved than theirs in the pre-test. Thus, the female learners in this research achieved well in promoting teaching listening for academic purposes after being treated using a bottom-up strategy.

Abstract

The assessment was becoming part of teaching activities to measure the learning target. It requires several assessment aspects to gain the language learning achievements of the learners. This article intended to examine the strength of the Information Transfer Technique (ITT) in assessing listening for a daily conversation subject for the students in the first year of students of English Department, the University of Darussalam Gontor which is considered as a Pesantren-based university. The research employed a quasi-experimental with control and experiment groups with a post-test design.  Each group consisted of 16 colleagues who were regarded as English Foreign Language learners. Their listening subject was assessed by post-test using the information transfer technique in both control and experimental group.The data were analyzed by an independent sample T-Test. The findings revealed that there was a significant inequality between the mean score of pre and post-test. The mean score of the post-test of learners in the experiment group was significantly higher than that in a pre-test. Furthermore, It is proven that the technique of information transfer is assumed eligible to assess the teaching-learning activities in listening for daily conversation

Abstract

Extensive reading becomes familiar among students since this activity eases them to read anytime and anywhere they like. Besides, they were also given the freedom to read any kind of book genre. The goal of this activity is to assist students in improving their reading skills. This research design is a descriptive qualitative where the respondents are twelve students of English Language Education Department. This research aims to investigate the students’ perspective toward extensive reading. The data collection was done by interviewing the respondents, doing field observation, and analyzing documents to confirm the data to support the triangulation. The results of the study showed that extensive reading was able to improve students' reading comprehension, increased students’ interest in reading, and built students’ awareness of the importance of literacy and having good reading habits. Furthermore, it should be highlighted that the students and lecturers have the capability and chance to produce readable sources to promote extensive reading at the level of elementary, junior, and senior high school or even at the university level.
