Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Learning gross anatomy might be conducted using variety of methods to increase student knowledge such as through tutorials, lectures and laboratory session. These methods require a media to deliver the learning material. Software power point has been used as a media to deliver gross anatomy material in Medical School of Jambi University on preparation session before laboratory session started. However, these preparation session since 2012/2013 academic year were no longer held. In the other hand, some teachers tried to modified Acland video of gross anatomy by dubbing its english language to indonesia language in order to help students comprehend the material better. Objectives: This study aimed to identify score differences of pre-test and post-test among two students group. The first group was an experimental group where students experiencing preparation session using Acland dubbing video. The other group was control group where student experiencing preparation session using power point. Methods: The design of this experimental study is control group pre-test and post-test. 83 medical students of Jambi University who registered the reproductive system modul were totally sampled and than devided into two groups. Short answer question were arranged as an intrumental test to measure students knowledge before (pre-test) and after (post-test) preparation session. Results: Pre-test score between those two groups are not differ significantly (p = 0.397). Post-test score between those two groups are also not differ significantly (p = 0.157). However, the gain score (an avarage spatial score between post-test dan pre-test) among those two groups are differ significantly (Gain: p = 0.005; N.Gain: p = 0.005) where experimental group is higher than the control group. Conclusion : Post-test score of between experimental group where students experiencing preparation session using Acland dubbing video is not differ significantly to control group where students experiencing preparation session using power point. Abstract

ABSTRACT The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on learning methods, namely from face-to-face to distance learning. Digital devices can provide highly sophisticated learning opportunities for early childhood. However, in conditions of activity restrictions during the pandemic, people have a tendency to use digital devices as a means of education, entertainment, and social interaction, which means that they also increase the duration of screen time in their daily lives. According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), the maximum screen time for toddlers is 1 hour per day. Excessive screen time in children has been shown to be associated with behavioral health problems. The level of parental knowledge regarding the allowed screen time duration is quite good. This can be seen from the survey results where, after giving the material, respondents who have children in the 3-5 year age group who know the screen time duration is less than 1 hour are around 84.7% of respondents, where before receiving the material only 63.4% of respondents . Meanwhile, for respondents who have children aged 6-12 years as much as 77.1% know screen time after getting the material, where previously only 63.9%. It can be concluded that the implementation of this counseling was able to increase the knowledge of parents about the impact of excessive use of gadgets so as to prevent the adverse effects of gadgets such as negative behavior, obesity, and internet or gadget addiction. In addition, it is necessary to conduct counseling on the adverse effects of using gadgets in the adolescent and adult age groups. Keywords: COVID-19, Child Health, Screen Time ABSTRAK Pandemi COVID-19 memiliki dampak pada metode pembelajaran yaitu dari tatap muka menjadi pembelajaran jarak jauh. Menurut American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), durasi screen time pada balita maksimal 1 jam per hari. Kata Kunci: COVID-19, Kesehatan Anak, Screen Time

Abstract

Background: Tutorial in Problem-based Learning is a learning method where faculty prepares a scenario to trigger students learning through small group discussion. In the first meeting of tutorial, a group of students analyze the scenario given by raising and answering questions to explore phenomenon described in the scenario. Unresolved questions then become students’ learning issues which are a starting point for their independent learning. Answers gathered during individual learning then being reported and synthesized on the second meeting. The aim of this study is to investigate student learning experience regarding the role of scenario in tutorial.Method: Reflective writings of 36 medical students about learning experience using PBL collected at the end of first year were analyzed qualitatively through within-case analysis and cross-case analysis. Methods chosen to increase credibility are peer review and verbatim. Results: Students found that some scenarios stimulated their learning since it increase students’ curiosity. Scenarios discussing the latest news in medicine also attract to students to learn more. However, majority students admitted that some scenarios not providing enough clues to guide student determining learning objectives. Student preferred to discuss and formulate learning objectives by listing the title/topic of lecture scheduled on the same week as related tutorial session. Scenario that found identical to scenario given on the previous academic year also demotivates students to learn deeply. Students admitted learning from their senior notes in preference to learning from other valid resources. In addition, this study found that scenarios that lead students to discuss topic beyond their first-year competencies also disencourage students learning. Conclusion: Scenario plays an important role in student learning. Therefore, scenario have to be carefully designed by determining students’ prior knowledge, the length of independent learning session needed and learning resources available for students. It is also necessary to always renew the scenario for every academic year and improve its quality, for example by adding visual trigger along with written text.

Abstract

Background: Problem-based Learning (PBL) is characterized by tutorial learning method where learning triggered using structured scenarios to initiate and stimulate student discussion in a small group, with facilitation by a tutor. Student performance during tutorial should be assessed by the tutor. Sim et al. from the University of Malaya developed PBL Tutorial Instrument measuring participation and communication ability, cooperation/team building skills, understanding/ reasoning skills, knowledge/skills gathering information. PBL Instrument Objective: This study aims to construct a new valid tutorial assessment instrument through adaptation and modification of the previous instrument developed by Sim et al. Method: This study consisted of 3 stages: forward translation, backward translation, and expert review. Forward translation is the process of translating instruments from English to Indonesian language. The results of the forward translation are given to different translators for a backward translation process. Instrument then submitted to seven experts to be validated and provide suggestions regarding the content and sentences used in the instrument items. The content validation process is carried out using the CVI and S-CVI score. Results: Forward and backward translation results shows that 20 items in the instrument were confirmed to be consistent with the original instrument. However, the first round of content validity process resulted I-CVI score for every item is ≥ 0.86 and the S-CVI score 0.99. Several experts suggested revision for item sentences corresponding with actual PBL implementation in the institution. Items were revised then the same experts then re-validated the revised instrument. Result showed the I-CVI and S-CVI score are 1.00. Conclusion: This research produced a valid Indonesian language version of the PBL assessment instrument, so that it can be used as an instrument to evaluate student performance in tutorial. Pilot studies need to be carried out further to obtain an analysis of the validity and reliability of the instrument. Keyword: instrument, PBL Tutorial, assessment
