Abstract

Background: Resin composite is one of many materials that are often used in daily dental practice because of its convenience and high aesthetic value. Resin composite consists of various materials, one of them is nanofil resin composite. Some research has shown that non-fiber resin composite has poor flexural strength. Therefore, fiber (FRC) can be added to the resin composite as a reinforcing material.Method: This study is based on a true-experimental, post-test only control group design with 16 specimen total of samples with 25x2x2 mm in the size. The samples were classified into two groups, the first group is the nanofil resin composite without the addition of non-dental glass fiber, and the second group is the nanofil resin composite with the addition of non-dental glass fiber. Data was tested using the parametric test, Independent T-test.Result: The average result of the flexural strength of the nanofil resin composite group without the addition of non-dental glass fiber was 102.7725 Mpa. As for the nanofil resin composite group with the addition of non-dental glass fiber is 166.1100 Mpa. The results of the independent T-test showed p-value = 0.000.Conclusion: It was found that nanofil resin composite with addition of non-dental glass fiber has a higher flexural strength than resin composite without addition of non-dental glass fiber so that it can be used as an alternative choice in applications in dentistry.

Abstract

Background : Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are commonly found in commercial sex workers (CSWs) due to lack of knowledge and bad behavior in sexual intercourse. STI does not only cause symptoms in the genital area but also lesions in the oral cavity. Method : This research was an analytical survey with cross sectional approach. Samples were 110 CSWs selected by simple random sampling. Chi-Square test was used to see the difference in the influence of the level of knowledge and sexual behavior on the incidence of oral cavity lesions. Result: Oral cavity lesions related to STIs were found in 44 cases, including suspect oral candidiasis, ulcers, suspect linear gingival erythematous (LGE), Suspect Kaposi Sarcoma and Oral Hairy Leukoplakia. Lesions were found in 43.9% respondents with low knowledge level and 37.7% in good knowledge level. Chi-Square test obtained p value of 0.328 (p> 0.05) showed that there was no difference between the knowledge level and the occurrence of lesions. Lesions were found 94.1% in respondents with bad sexual behavior and 15.8% in respondents with good sexual behaviour. Chi-Square test obtained p value of 0.00 (p> 0.05) which means that there are significant differences between good sexual behavior respondents and bad sexual behavior respondents towards the presence of lesions. Conclusion: The level of knowledge was not a risk factor for oral lesions, whereas bad sexual behavior was a risk factor for oral cavity lesions.

Abstract

Background: Consuming cariogenic foods can cause calcium demineralization which is characterized by the appearance of dental caries. One effort on the prevention of dental caries is by consuming Mackerel fish oil that contains omega-3 fatty acids, omega-6 fatty acids, and vitamins that are beneficial for the body. Purpose: The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of omega-3 Mackerel fish oil on the density of tooth enamel in white rat (Rattus norvegicus). Method: This study applied an experimental research method with randomized posttest only control group design. Samples were comprised of 20 rats taken from 6 pregnant female rats which later divided into two groups: a treatment group administered orally with omega-3 Mackerel oil as much as 1ml / 200 mg BB and an aquadest control group. The treatment was administered during pregnancy period until the eruption of the teeth. Rats were euthanized to extract the tooth and enamel density was observed using micro-CT. The data were then analyzed with Levene’s homogeneity test and were preceded to independent T-test. Result: The average enamel density of the treatment group was 1155.18340 while the control group was 175.91640. Based on independent t test between the two groups, a significant difference in tooth enamel density of Rattus Noevegicus was obtained (p <0.05). Conclusion: The administration of omega-3 Mackerel fish oil may increase the density of tooth enamel in White Rat (Rattus norvegicus).
