Abstract

Writing is regarded as the most difficult skill for students. Improving students’ writing skill can be done in many ways, including applying online learning platform during covid-19 pandemic. This research aims to describe the implementation of blended learning to improve students’ writing skill and to describe whether blended learning can improve the students’ writing skill or not.  This research employed Collaborative Classroom Action Research. It was conducted into two cycles. The subjecst of the research are a second-year students of IKIP Siliwangi, who enrolled English for Academic Writing class. The research data were collected by using techniques of observation and test. The results of this study show that after the implementation of blended Learning in every cycle, the students’ writing score were getting better. It can be seen from the result of students’ mean score in Cycle 1 was 74  and Cycle  2  was  84.  This means that the implementation of Blended Learning can improve students’ writing skill. In addition, blended learning also can enhance students’ interest in writing

Abstract

AbstrakWriting  is  also  a  productive  talent which  is  meant for  communication  to  deliver  messages in  the  shapesvof  letters  and  symbols. In the course of writing for general communication, students are expected to be able to write using several genre of text. Round Table is one of teaching technique which is implemented by cooperative learning approach. The specific purpose of this study is to prove the students responses toward Round Table techniques in improving writing skills in the Writing for General Communication course. This research used a descriptive qualitative. The research conducted in the second semester students at IKIP Siliwangi in the academic year of 2019/2020. Purposive sample is the technique that the researchers taken. The subject of this research consist of 48 students. Questionnaire grid used as instrument in this research. After analyzing the data descriptively, the results show that all of the students were actively involved during the teaching and learning activity. They have a high motivation to learn. The students understand the material easier. The learning process is interesting and not boring. They are motivated to get good achievement because they feel more valued in expressing opinions when learning. Keyword: Response, Writing, Round Table Technique AbstrakMenulis merupakan keterampilan produktif yang dimaksudkan untuk berkomunikasi guna menyampaikan pesan dalam bentuk huruf dan simbol. Dalam mata kuliah Writing for General Communication, siswa diharapkan dapat menulis menggunakan beberapa jenis teks. Round Table adalah salah satu teknik pengajaran yang dapat diimplementasikan dengan pendekatan pembelajaran yang bersifat kooperatif. Tujuan khusus dari penelitian ini adalah untuk dapat mengetahui bagaiman tanggapan mahasiswa terhadap penggunaan teknik Round Table dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menulis dalam mata kuliah Writing for General Communication. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada mahasiswa semester kedua di IKIP Siliwangi pada tahun akademik 2019/2020. Purposive sample adalah teknik pengambilan sampek yang digunakan oleh peneliti. Subjek penelitian ini terdiri dari 48 siswa. Kuisioner digunakan sebagai instrumen dalam penelitian ini. Setelah menganalisis data secara deskriptif, hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa semua siswa terlibat aktif selama kegiatan belajar mengajar. Mereka memiliki motivasi belajar yang tinggi. Siswa lebih mudah memahami materi. Proses pembelajarannya menarik dan tidak membosankan. Mereka termotivasi untuk mendapatkan prestasi yang baik karena mereka merasa lebih dihargai dalam mengekspresikan pendapat saat belajar  Kata kunci: Respon, Menulis, Teknik Round Table

Abstract

The ability to speak is the main basis that must be possessed by every student, especially for students who majored in English education. However, most problems in the process of teaching English are closely related to the ability to speak itself. The formulation of the problem in this study are; is there a significant improvement in speaking skills when applying the fishbowl technique to the English for Tourist Guide course? and What are the classroom situations and conditions when the fishbowl technique is applied in the learning process in the English for Tourist Guide course? Therefore, the long-term goal of this research is to produce learning theories that can be applied by lecturers without changing their roles but can optimize the creativity and ability of students in good English and in accordance with applicable language rules. This research method is quantitative research and the design used in this study is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which consists of several cycles with a sample of one class, namely class A3 2016 IKIP SIliwangi. The results and conclusions in this study are the sum of all student scores in the pre-test is 122, and the total score in session 1 is 154, while the score in session 2 is 187, after averaged, the scores obtained are 4.5 for the scores pre-test, 5,7. for the value of session 1, and 6.9 for the value of session 2 from the analysis made, it can be concluded that the results obtained have not demonstrated the success of Fishbowl learning conducted by lecturers / researchers. Looking at the comparison of initial values, the value of the first cycle and the value of the second cycle, there was a significant increase, namely from the average initial value of 4.5 rising in cycle I to 6.3 and in cycle II rising to 7.9 This increase could not underestimated because this increase in value is from the maximum efforts carried out by researchers for the sake of improving the quality of education and the advancement of education, especially in English Language Study Program IKIP Siliwangi.

Abstract

Speaking for general communication is compulsory subject that must be taken by students during second semester. In reality, most of the students at IKIP Siliwangi face some problems related to speaking skill. To improve the students’ speaking skill, the lecturers need to know what media is the most suitable for the students. This research used Collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR). The objectives of the study are: 1) finding out whether or not English Movie can improve the students’ speaking skill 2) finding out classroom situation when English Movie implemented in speaking class. To collect data, the researcher used instruments of observations, tests and questionnaires. The finding showed that the use of English Movie was effective in improving the speaking abilities of the student in class. This can be seen from the improvements after each cycle. The average score of pre test was 70.5. After the implementation of English Movie in every cycle, the students’ speaking score were getting better. It can be seen from the result of students’ average score 76.5 in cycle 1 and 81 in cycle 2. Therefore, it can be concluded that English Movie can improve students’ speaking skill and improve speaking classroom into a better situation.Keywords: Improving, Speaking, English Movie

Abstract

To improve the students’ writing skill, the lecturers need to find out an appropriate technique for the students. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR). The objectives of the study are: 1) finding out whether or not Round Table can improve the students’ writing skill 2) finding out classroom situation when Round Table implemented in writing for general communication course. The finding was supported by the result of students’ writing scores. The average score of pre test was 68.31. After the implementation of Round Table Technique in every cycle, the students’ speaking score were getting better. It can be seen from the result of students’ average score 75.15 in cycle 1 and 81.5 in cycle 2. It can be concluded that Round Table Technique can improve students’ speaking skill and improve speaking classroom into a better situation. Keywords: Writing Skill, Round Table Technique, CAR

Abstract

Language has central role on intellectual development, social, and emotional students to supported success student and learn all of lessons. Literacy level are performation, functional, informational, and epistemic. Performative level means students able to read, to write, to listen, and to speak using symbols. Reading habit refers to the automatic process as the readers read the textual material and deriving meaning unconsciously. A good reading habit is important for the development of personalities and mental capacities. Students reading habit plays an important role in pronunciation mastery. This research used the correlation research. The objectives of the study is to reveal correlation between students’ reading habit and their pronunciation ability at second grade students of IKIP Siliwangi. The finding was supported by the result of students’ scores. The minimum score of habit is 71 and 65 for pronunciation ability. The maximum score of reading habit is 109 and 92 for pronunciation ability. The mean of reading habit is 92.60 and 78.73 for pronunciation ability. Standard deviation of reading habit is 8.85 and 6.31 for pronunciation ability. The researcher finds that the Pearson Product Moment of both variable is 0.373. It means that the correlation between students’ reading habit in English and their pronunciation ability was in low correlation because in the range of 0.20-0.40. From the result of the statistical calculation, it can be synthesized that Null Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. The researcher concluded that there is the correlation between students’ reading habit and their pronunciation ability. Keywords: Reading habit, Pronunciation, Correlation

Abstract

Abstract In the process of learning a foreign language, vocabulary is one of the important language elements that must be mastered by the learners. The ability to understand the language depends on one’s knowledge of vocabulary besides the other elements of language itself. In reality, most of the students in first semester at IKIP Siliwangi face some problems related to vocabulary mastery. To improve the students’ vocabulary, the lecturer need to know what technique is the most suitable for the students. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR). The objectives of the study are: 1) Finding out whether or not Magic Sentences technique can improves the students’ vocabulary 2) Finding out classroom situation when Magic Sentences technique implemented in vocabulary mastery. The finding was supported by the result of students’ vocabulary scores. The average score of pre test was 61.14. After the implementation of Magic Sentences in every cycle, the students’ vocabulary score were getting better. It can be seen from the result of students’ average score Cycle 1 was 67.30 and Cycle 2 was 80.24. It can be concluded that Magic Sentences can improve students’ reading interest and improve reading classroom into a better situation. Keywords: Magic sentences; vocabulary mastery; CAR

Abstract

Writing is one way to communicate in written form to convey a message. Descriptive text is on of the learning topics for seventh grade students of SMPN SATAP Rimbakarya. The purpose of this study is to analyze students’ difficulties in the process of learning to write descriptive texts. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods. The research subjects were 20 students of seventh grade. Abstract

The phenomena of language is a phenomena that is currently happening in Indonesia as well as the language and style of language in communication, mix or switch into another language especially English and it can be called Code Switching. Many sources of media that we can use to see how code switching is, and one of the flatfrom is Vlog. Based on the introduction, this research tries to analyze a code switching, the main is the types, and analyze a factor motivation by using descriptive qulitative method. The aims of this article are to find out the types of code switching from her utterances in vlog using code switching and the factor motivation that influenced in doing code switching. The factor motivating that influenced for Nessie Judge do a code switching in her vlog on her daily communication because of social and lingustic factors or types. Based on the finding of data that the writer analyze from Nessie Judge’s utterance in her vlog, the most types of code switching that in Nessie Judge utterances is Intersentential type

Abstract

In this study described of the Language Style and Illocutionary Act that found in a teen-lit novel “The perfect Husband” Written By Indah Riyana. The methodology that used in this study is Descriptive Qualitative Method. Source of data gained from novel “The Perfect Husband”. The steps are: 1). The researchers read the novel, 2). Collecting and analyzing the sentences that consist of language style and the illocutionary act, 3). Draw the conclusion finding based on the data analysis. In this study, the Language Style found are five style but it concern to casual style because that is a teen lit novel, and the illocutionarry act that found are five categories but mostly is used of derective and expressive.Keywords: Language Style, Illocutionary Act, Teen lit novel
