Abstract

In the picture of ordinary people, Sufism teaches Zuhud and distances itself from the world in theory and practice. But this is different from reality. Sufism orders in the archipelago also appeared in the vanguard to fight and repel the invaders. The history of Islamic civilization records a series of resistance movements led by Sheikh Sufism with his followers to fight against the Dutch colonialists. For this to become evident to us, we must examine some of their words and actions: Abu Hamid Al-Ghazali wrote his book (Reviving the Sciences of Religion) during the period of the Crusaders victory over the Levant, and the author remembered everything from the works of hearts and did not remember to write a chapter on jihad. We conducted literature studies and verified and interpreted the descriptions in the literature. With a descriptive analysis, the approach is obtained. The conceptual ambiguity that afflicted Sufism regarding the concepts of jihad and the application of Islamic law" played a major role in the emergence of some analyses that suggest Sufism playing a safe alternative to extremist Islamic movements. Therefore, in this article, we try to answer a complex question, which is the degree of The link between the Sufi orders and the concepts of jihad and the application of Islamic law, and is it possible for the Sufi orders to adopt a form of political violence to implement their goals?

Abstract

Abstract

The spiritual dimension of religions, in general, is the general feature of those religions and their ultimate goal that they seek to find, jumping over those ethnic, identitarian, or creedal dams that they created, either the whims of writers or the interpreters of sacred texts or the intended desires of those who framed religious laws, and all of that moved away, in one way or another, from the spirit of those religions and God's purpose in this is that of servitude to Him, the bridging of brotherhood, and the reconstruction of the land without oppression, killing or displacement through economic, religious, political, and social services for religion to be a deterrent to civilization and progress, not to be a symbolic basis for oppression, extremism, and the abolition of the other. We researched literature study and approached the phenomena that exist in the source in descriptive analysis and found spiritual values can refine man and give him limitless energies for the sake of goodness, truth, and love. That striving in competition, conflict of interests, clash of desires, and clash of civilizations. would make life a cruel and terrible struggle were it not for the care of God who revealed the Qur'an, guidance, and mercy for people. Accordingly, spiritual security and peace is the real riser of civilizations, and no civilization will arise unless it combines civilization and spirit. Therefore, this nation needs a serious application of Sufism and needs a spiritual education that aspires to charity and calls for virtue and abandonment of vice.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between the fiqh understanding and women’s religious role in the tradition of female priests and preachers (imam-khatib) in Balingka, West Sumatra, Indonesia. A qualitative approach was used with data obtained through interviews with informants, including female priests (imam), religious scholars, village guardians, community leaders, and women figures in Balingka. Furthermore, documentation and observation were also used to collect data. The results showed a relationship between the dynamics of  fiqh understanding and women’s religious role. A moderate fiqh understanding makes the practice of female imam-khatib persist, supporting its recognition, and acceptance. Conversely, radical fiqh thoughts make the tradition of female imam-khatib criticized and challenged. The shift in fiqh understanding brings this tradition to an end after lasting for almost a century in Balingka. The study of Islam socialized by the Salafis through television and internet media shifted the understanding of fiqh from a moderate to a radical style, bringing this tradition to an end. Consequently, women are marginalized from their religious roles and are subordinate to men’s roles.
