Abstract

L-ascorbyl palmitate (AsA-Pal-Enz) was synthesized by using an immobilized lipase from Aspergillus niger. A comparison of antioxidative effects between L-ascorbic acid  (AsA) and AsA-Pal-Enz was determined in terms of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical-scavenging. The results indicate that the AsA-Pal-Enz was effective in preventing lipid oxidation, while the antioxidative activity in authentic AsA-Pal was lower. The activity of AsA-Pal-Enz was very stable than AsA-Pal standard during heating.

Abstract

Sendang Biru beach is a one of the coastal area located in Sumbermanjing Wetan, Malang, East Java-Indonesia. As a sea tourism, there are another residents activities such as fishing, fish landing and auction in Malang. That activities can caused pollution on the Sendang Biru aquatic environment. The research aim were to describe the water quality of Sendang Biru aquatic environment based on phytoplankton diversity. This research used several data collection techniques, that were microalgae sampling technique and measurement of physical and chemical water quality. Phytoplankton found in Sendang Biru Beach consists of 47 genus that are genus from seven divisions, Bacillariophyta, Chlorophyta, Cyanophyta, Euglenophyta, Dinophyta, Chrysophyta and Charophyta. The most abundant phytoplankton while having the Indeks Nilai Penting (INP) at the edge zone is the genus Oscillatoria sp. (the abundance is 4368000 Ind/L and INP 26,288). In the central and inner zones are both dominated by Coscinodiscus sp. (The abundance of center zone 4992000 Ind/L and INP 30,499; the abundance of inside zone is 9464000 Ind/L and INP 40,773). The level of diversity of phytoplankton in the three area of Sendang Biru beach are 2,297 in the edge zone; 2,37 in the central zone, and 1,8 in the inner zone. The pollution status of Sendang Biru beach can be classified as polluted moderately based on diversity index value on three different zone in the Sendang Biru Beach.

Abstract

Quail (Coturnix japonica) is a bird that have high protein content, but vulnerable to digestive diseases. The purpose of this research was to determine the ability of antibacterial compounds of LAB from intestinal quail origin in bacterial growth inhibition test. This research used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with variable concentrations of Cell Free Supernatant (CFS) for 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60% and bacterial pathogens of the digestive tract of quail (S. typhimurium, E. coli of human origin, and E. coli of bird origin) by using the Minimum inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimal Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). The data obtained were analyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results obtained showed that the bacterium Lactobacillus fermentum and L. salivarius derived from quail intestine can produce antibacterial compounds that could inhibit the growth of Salmonella typhimurium, Escherichia coli (human), and E. coli (bird). Minimum concentration of the addition of CFS from L. fermentum in inhibiting the growth of tested bacteria was 30% for S. typhimurium, 30% for E. coli (human), and 20% for E. coli (bird). While the addition of CFS minimum concentration of L. salivarius in inhibiting the growth of tested bacteria was 20% for S. typhimurium, 20% for E. coli (human), and 10% for E. coli (bird). Keywords: Antibacterials, Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB), Escherichia coli, Quail, and Salmonella typhimurium.
