Abstract

The purpose of this research is to obtain descriptive information about problems and problems solving in learning listening comprehension. Researchers use qualitative descriptive research and investigate students' problems in listening comprehension in grade VIII and steps to solve their problem. This sample uses a qualitative descriptive method and is carried out in Kalam Kudus Christian Middle School Pematangsiantar, North Sumatra. The researcher found that the most common problem faced by the four students was lack of concentration, native the speaker's speaking speed, foreign words, and lack of effort to understand each word. The solutions offered to overcome these problems are focus and concentration while listening to class, concentrate on what is heard, and write down the things that are important when listening to the material spoken by a native speaker; find the meaning of a foreign word, look at the dictionary to find it out difficult words, check words that are not clearly heard in the dictionary, memorize vocabulary, and read English text and listen to English audio; and familiarize students with rulers pronunciation to help them hear different forms of fast natural speech and ask them questions imitating the pronunciation of native speakers. It concludes that studying information about problems and problem solving in junior high school is because they learn the results are still far from standard. Therefore, problem solving in listening Understanding of learning is expected to minimize the problems faced by junior high school students in the learning process so that they get satisfactory learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to answer the research problem about the non-linguistic problems in writing faced by grade eight at Junior High School 1 Pematangsiantar. The objective of this study was to identify some non-linguistic problems in writing faced by the grade eight at Junior High School 1 Pematangsiantar. Furthermore, the data were analyzed by using descriptive quantitative. The research participants of this study were thirty two students from grade eight of Junior High School 1 Pematangsiantar who had writing scores were the passing grade criteria. In addition, the instruments employed closed-ended questionnaire and semi-structured interview. The result of the study revealed that the grade eight encountered several non-linguistic problems in writing, comprised of: (1)students lacked of learning motivation, (2) lacked of support from people surrounding, poor facilities, and teacher’s related issues. Moreover, not all the students encountered those problems because every student had different linguistic problems in writing. Therefore, some contributions from the headmaster, English teacher and the students are needed in order to minimize those kinds of linguistic problems.

Abstract

The study is aimed to investigate the internal and external problems in Writing by the Senior High Students in one of the school in Simalungun SMA Negeri 2 Bandar. The sample of this study is the eleventh grade students having low ability in Writing. This research is a qualitative study using purposive sample. In collecting the qualitative data the researchers did observation, and distributed questionnaire. This study reveals some findings related to the students’ low ability in writing.

Abstract

This article describes the English listening problems faced by private course students in Pematangsiantar. Specifically revealing (1) students' English listening skills, (2) problems faced in listening to English and (3) how teachers solve these problems. Data were obtained through a series of English listening tests using recordings with native and non-native speakers, observations and interviews. The findings show (1) the problems they often face in listening to English which are related to speaking speed, limited vocabulary, concentration levels and language habits, and (3) To overcome them, teachers must apply the correct technique of practice. by providing students with several ways to practice listening to English. Thus, it can be concluded that the teacher's efforts can solve problems by listening to the problems faced by students
